An apparently frustrated pcom member sent us this video of a person literally stealing the video security cam from her back porch on Confederate Ave at 2:30am I'm thinking Thursday night/Friday morning. She wrote us: Here's the video I'll leave it to the member to identify herself and I'm sure the Dallas PD would be interested in any information on the whereabouts of the perpetrator of this crime.
If you get a call from some weird, India-sounding guy identifying himself as member of the Dallas Police and threatening to come arrest you if you don't send him money, please don't fall for this new and disturbing scam. Figuring out this is a scam may be harder than you imagine because the callers are now tricking your caller ID to make it look like the Dallas PD originated the call. "That is what is scary," said Det. Alan Hurd of the Dallas Police who said they he had never heard of phone identity spoofing. Det. Hurd said that his office has received more than one report of residents being asked to send $200 via Western Union to avoid arrest by the Dallas Police Department by people, all of whom have a thick Indian accent' but that since the scammers can fool your caller ID, for some, the hint given by the accent may not be enough. "We had one lady who was scared to death we were coming to arrest her," Det. Hurd said, but she called us, he said. Det. Hurd said that all members of the Dallas Police and Emergency Services are generally native to the south and all have good southern accents, but not everyone knows that. He did say that the City of Dallas website includes all the names and pictures of Dallas Police officers. Det. Hurd said that some of the earlier instances involved a "570" number and an officer Tom Lee who presented a scenario that enticed the person called to send him money. We'll post some of the 'scam pitches' in a subsequent post. Mainly, Det. Hurd wants folks to know that if they get a call from an Indian sounding guy claiming to be a Dallas Police officer, don't send them any money for any reason ... and give him a call at 770-443-8328 Click for RECENT TOPICS click for RECENT TOPICS click for RECENT TOPICS
