Please tell me that you don't provide history or civics instruction to our children!

I agree! I think that erecting a shrine where the person died is something that requires no real energy or thought. He died there. Put the memorial there. I'd find that kind of insulting if I were the dead guy! The best way that a person can be remembered is to perpetuate what he/she loved to do. I love to fish, so a fitting memorial to me would be if someone would, once a year, open up their private lake to allow kids or even adults to fish there. Something like that!

You've hit on an issue, I think. Iconic items that become obsolete - How is the meaningful aspect of them retained in new icons that are representative of the new paradigm? Historically, that answer has been through art. The art of today? Tattoos? What other type of art utilizes symbols? Maybe to a lesser degree, urban art/graffitti. I agree that halos are typically religious, though not specifically christian. It just seems to me that a fitting memorial to someone shouldn't involve defacing public property or otherwise using property that doesn't belong to you. Shouldn't all pr

My wife would probably look upon faded flowers, dirty teddy bear, deflated balloons, etc as a fitting memorial to me! "Looks Just Like Him", she'd say.....

There's at least one good reason that you can't put a permanent marker in the right of way. As soon as that happens, the road will need to be widened. When that happens, the person who paid for a permit, as you suggested, would sue the state to keep them from widening the road. Another problem is that these tributes ALWAYS fall into disrepair. People put them up and then forget about maintaining them. People SHOULD put up shrines, memorials that are permanent/semi-permanent, but that should be done on their own property. Then they can attach whatever religious symbol that they want to !

I think that if people started putting up muslim shrines at these sites, the very same people who want their own religion to be featured on the roadway would be tearing down the shrine of the muslim faith. Their demand for the "free exercise thereof" ends when it stops being their particular brand. I agree with Free Bird. Since it's a violation of the law by putting those shrines out on the right of way, then just enforce that law! I don't have a real problem with a warning sign that says "Jimmy Jones was killed in a traffic accident on this site in 2003. Please be careful!" But in

LR's a member of "The PCOM Club"! BTW -- if you need help posting the photo......

What's interesting is that they are using HUMAN stem cells in the mice! If a person is restored to full use of his body, from a catastrophic injury - I don't care WHERE the stem cells come from! That position would be amplified a million times - if I were the person in a wheelchair!!

Whichever you go see - How about letting us know how it goes? "Funny" by the way, is an interestingly subjective description. What some people find "funny", other people find revolting. As well, some people call "funny" something that makes them laugh, even if the laughter is a spontaneous reaction to being intensely uncomfortable. I think that Saget would be the worse show, but I kinda wish that you'd go see it, so you could report back on his delivery.

I started teaching my son when he was about 13. The basics started in the middle of a parking lot where he couldn't run into anything! By the time that he was 16, he had a good base of experience. He'll be 20 next month - Hasn't had a wreck yet!

Yeah - it's a little bit like Mr. Rogers trying to do Richard Pryor material. Just seems creepy!

Have you been initiated yet into the PCOM Club? What you do to secure the rights and privileges of membership is to 1) go to the religion board using the ON password 2) post a picture of yourself completely undressed. 3) Return here to announce that you are a bona fide member of the Club! Don't worry - The mods will take it down and besides -- Everyone here has done it!!

I agree about Bob Saget! Some stand up guys can pull off the crude humor. Bob Saget is not one of them! He comes off looking like a perv, saying really weird stuff that just isn't funny. Mencia - has some funny stuff but he relies too much on racial/cultural differences to make his humor work. That's pretty much his whole act. It's just difficult to sustain, therefore tiresome and difficult to watch for an entire show. I like cerebral humor, Dimitri Martin, Emo Phillips, Steven Wright - that type stuff. But I also laugh at Larry The Cable Guy and Jeff Foxworthy material!

The all-inclusive pricing is great, Subby! In that way the person knows what it's going to cost, with no "surprises" when it's time to pick it up. This is the hallmark of an honest business!! I can't imagine why anyone would take their business to anyone else! I wish that EVERY business would accept your model!

I just love the honesty of this statement!

I don't think that anyone would argue with the fact that an adult CAN beat a child into submission. I think that beating children instills fear, which masks itself as willful compliance. When parents beat their children, it's often from frustration and anger. There's really no way to prevent or screen those emotions from becoming the motivation for beating children. It's a short-term fix that could have long-lasting damage on the child. So for those who beat their kids: What determines the number of times that you strike the child? What determines what weapon you use, belt, tree limb

You don't want this to continue, WW! A frayed string can hurt if it breaks completely all at once. Start looking for a new string. They're not that difficult to replace! Don't let it go on any longer. Kick that old, frayed string to the curb! You may need to get you a new release, too! Or just spray some WD-40 on it if you want to work on it yourself.

That was double-funny!

Really, doesn't it seem like people are hibernating? Nobody much seems to be posting or -- doing anything! - Not much going on? Or is it just me????

Thanks for saying that you're entertained, Madea. That's why I write! And it's good to put thoughts in writing. It's sometimes self-revealing, sometimes cathartic, but always beneficial. It was a perfect compliment and I thank you so much for the kind words!

Here's a tip, BS. Don't look back. Don't keep coming back so that you can get in the last word. If you've determined that you can't properly budget your time and you feel compelled to stay here to get your point across, then you should do something else. But what makes you happy? If you're not happy with what you're doing, by all means do something else! But if you keep coming back to get in the last word you're not changing anything. Good luck BS! -
Madea, you're a nice lady. Do you think that stressors exist that would have you cuss out customers, commit a felony or two and then smile about it as you're hauled away? He was clearly basking in the glow of the spotlight! I don't doubt that he was a good employee, but the whole thing seems a bit contrived, as though he had been fantasizing about this for awhile and just decided to do it to see how famous/infamous he would become as a result. According to the passengers, he was ill-tempered and pretty much picking a fight. Then he's smiling when he's arrested? He COULD have snapped and
