  1. It seems clear that the deacon forgot to wear his best manners! While it's desirable for an individual to dress up for something special - the individual isn't accountable to anyone else! I think that it would be different if you wore tattered jeans straight from working in the garden to a friend's funeral or wedding. A family member might rightly seem personally insulted. In this case, the deacon had no right to take personal offense and he was way out of line for saying anything! Oh, yes - about "not having the money". Assuming that a person has a job and is not indigent (do
  2. Dressing up is a way of communicating, "This is important to me". You go to the Academy Awards or you're getting married - you wear a tux or evening gown/bridal gown. Dressing in casual clothes is a way of communicating - "This is nothing special, not worth extra effort, it's an every-day thing" Dressing in sloppy clothes, unclean and untidy - It's a way of communicating, "I have no self-respect". In some cases, it also communicates a lack of respect for others. A good friend passes away. There should be no question as to what you're supposed to wear. You wear black, to indicate so
  3. Here's what - If a church has a dress code, then they should post it like they do at some fine dining establishments. Gentlemen Are Required To Wear A Coat And Tie or Tuxedo Ladies Must Wear Appropriate Long Dresses
  4. It seems like the ones in school who got in trouble and the ones in church who people looked down upon -- They received scorn because they had something to show! The girls who weren't developed didn't get in trouble!
  5. Before social networking, the same thing could have been said for email. Any method of getting people together has the potential for splitting people apart.
  6. Most definitely! I hate to see this part of our civilization decline, though.
  7. I think that it's a doggone shame that people are so casual about the way that they dress - regardless of the function! The implication in the question "what does one wear" seems to imply, "What's the least dressy thing that I can wear and not have people think terribly of me?" The real telling factor - kids. You rarely see a young person in a nice suit anymore. When I was a kid, (I know - a long time ago!) we had three or four suits so we didn't wear the same one all of the time. Church, funerals, the opera, gala parties - I think that we're seeing a civilization decline and the
  8. Ground beef in a roll - Ewwww! You want to always buy the lowest fat (so that you don't have so much to drain and so that you don't have greasy chili) ground beef and in the transparent covering so that you can see that it is fresh. Look at it this way - If you're going to spend X number of dollars on the other ingredients, why mess up the whole thing with inferior meat? The best option? Grind your own! I've never understood why people do that. If you have something that's good - why not share it - Unless you're going to market it commercially, that is.
  9. I use one large can of diced tomatoes one can of pinto beans one can of light red kidney beans one pound of ground venison/extra lean ground beef 1/4 cup finely minced sweet/vidalia onion 1/4 cup Heinz ketchup 2 heaping tablespoons of coarse black pepper 1 tablespoon of red pepper flakes 2 dashes of white pepper 1 tablespoon of worcestershire sauce 1 pgk Chili-O mix 1 pkg Taco mix 1 tablespoon of chili powder. 1 can of refried beans 2 Tablespoons of cooking oil Saute onions in cooking oil and add ground beef or ground venison. until all of the red is gone. Transfer i
  10. Johnny J is the greatest!! I'll take this opportunity to say how thankful I am to have you all as my dear friends!
  11. SG - I can't believe the bankers turned you down!
  12. Did you mean, "Irene Ryan"? That's who played "Granny".
  13. Right - a cell phone used today can't be used to contact people in the future. I disagree with Thoughts about this -- I don't think that it's a good hoax. Not even.
  14. Discount them. The fact that you hear more accounts is unrelated to their existence in reality. Try this on: A visitor from another galaxy travels a gazillion light years, utilizes the highest technology of the day, in his world. But he's what -- shy? He has the technology to come all of this distance, but lacks the social skills to make contact? So he just says, "to hell with it" and goes back home? And this happens thousands of times (due to the number of UFO reports)? Does that make sense, or is it more likely that it's an urban myth? Same thing with ghosts. Why are these phenomena relate
  15. The mistake people would make here is to make the quantum leap of logic that because it's an unknown factor, it's a "time-traveler" There is a reasonable explanation for it that does not include time travel. Perhaps it is an experiment in human behavior, like Allen Funt's "Candid Camera". A person dressed in period attire chatting into what seems to be a hand held device? Isn't it remarkable that the person just ahead of the "time traveler" didn't turn around to see who the "butch lady" was talking to? There are many assumptions that have to be made to make the "time traveler"
  16. We put wings on your feet! Our Shoes Put You On Cloud 9! Shoes for your little angel!
  17. Not sure why the topic was moved to Paulding Place since the offending business isn't a Commerce Member here. People need to know!
  18. So I won't name it here. I posted about our experience last night and what happened after we left. I also included several reviews from patrons who have visited this establishment recently AND a very telling response from the owner to one of the reviewers. Visit "Paulding Place" in the "Turn Me ON" (the secret word is "ON") forums. This is a place that you need to know as a place to avoid!
  19. Celebrate on Nov 1 and wait until then to buy the outfits and candy! Sunday is Halloween - Trick or Treat on Sunday or stay home. Nobody's going to want people ringing their doorbells on Saturday night!
  20. For the life of me, I can't figure out why you're against hope and change. Y'all might want to remember that there's been a grand total of ONE REPUBLICAN Governor of GA since Reconstruction! This will be the spot for County-wide gloating and in your face finger pointing. There you go!
  21. Not even! Let me type slowly so that you may comprehend. It would be hypocritical of me to hold it against Barnes for screwing teachers. Maybe you''re not hip to the double entendre? Or is your self-esteem so low that you couldn't read for a possible second meaning because you were so pumped at the chance to hurl an insult? My guess is, "both".
  22. Three whole teachers voting for "Shady" Deal? Here's a little something for Mr. Deal. He'll need this regardless of the outcome of the election!
