I'd had the dread feelings before, too. But I never said anything to anyone when someone actually died or something catastrophic happened. So a couple of years ago when the feeling came around again, I decided to document it by posting it on PCOM. It was the following day, I guess, maybe the day after that the bodies were discovered. It was revealed that the pro wrestler was killing his family around the time that I got the feeling. Again, though, I think that it is coincidence. In this case, I said, "fixing to die" because that is an impression that I have - for whatever reason. I t

Questions about Casey Anthony's defense strategy

Don't you think that the smirk is a tactic to appear confident? It's posturing. Would you expect the lawyers' faces to accurately portray their "we are so screwed" position? A nanny stole the child, no it was the abusive father, no, it was a drowning..... Pay no attention to the smell in the trunk. It was ---- pizza. The duct tape over the mouth of the child? Probably got there during the drowning..... -
Here's what I think about this urban myth.I think that it's a deflection. It's a way of keeping from dealing with the reality of the finality of death. One can simply go back to historical records of celebrity deaths in the past to see that there is absolutely no pattern of celebrity deaths. Since it's a nonsensical claim - after all, how would the forces that would take celebrity lives in 3's come to a determination that an individual qualifies as a celebrity - Why perpetuate the myth? The answer lies in the unease that people experience when dealing with death. Saying "3's" make

The feeling I had was "fixing to" . For the record, I don't believe in fortune-telling or clairvoyance. I imagine that the feeling of dread is for my own demise, which hopefully is eventual, as opposed to imminent. The human mind is capable of putting these feelings of dread aside, which accounts for the calm that follows the uneasy feeling. It's not a claim, because I think that the timing of the Benoit tragedy was coincidental to my feelings of dread. But I'm still wondering if anyone else gets these weird vibes?

Imagine how the court system would be more effective if prison overcrowding were not an issue! Imagine not having to house all of those prisoners on the taxpayers' dime.

It's somebody famous about to make the headlines.. So do you ever get these feelings? I know - it was probably something I ate. I had this feeling a couple of years ( I posted it when I had the feeling) ago when Chris Benoit killed his family and himself. The feeling is a moment of dread followed by calm. Or maybe it's the heat.

I think that "act an ass" is a term that copschick is used to using. For the purpose of pointing out exactly what you're doing that in her estimation you shouldn't be doing, it's not helpful. I get the Debby Downer thing. I think that it's because from the other person's perspective, you're raining on her parade. I remember the thread from a year ago. My takeaway was that you wouldn't visit the shop because her store hours didn't suit you. My recollection is that you presented that fact in a "glass is half empty" fashion. Here's a glass is half-full approach. "I understand that yo -
Let's say that you were in a country that would put you in jail and then deport you if you didn't have your documentation with you. Would you carry it with you then??? Maybe you're not old enough to remember when U.S. citizens used to do the jobs now held by undocumented workers? Regarding businesses paying full time day laborers checks with taxes taken out - That doesn't seem to be a realistic representation of what's going on. Do you really think that documented foreign workers are getting paid LESS then their undocumented counterparts? THEY ALL get paid in cash! There's no enforcem

Good suggestions! Y'all stay cool today. Hydrate and think cool thoughts!

IMO WAY too much attention is given to the illegal alien. The problem, as I've said for years, is not as much with the "undocumented workers" as it is with the BUSINESS that ILLEGALLY hires them! The IRS should be shutting these businesses down - Seizing them!! They are paying full-time employees in cash and not taking out taxes!! And the rationale is that enforcing the law would make the price of produce go up? So we're never going to enforce the law? Or what? I would think that documented workers who are having taxes taken out of their paychecks should sue for workplace inequal

I'd like to understand your rationale. You're saying that illegal aliens aren't here to work, make money and raise their families. They are here illegally so that they can become American citizens and vote??? Do you think that citizenship matters to those who are here illegally? I don't. I think that most illegal aliens are here because the quality of life is better here as illegals, than as legal residents of their homeland (regardless of where their homeland is) . But you have insight on their wanting to be American citizens so they can vote?

The "peaches rotting on the trees" scenario is a red herring! In an economy that has been down, it's tempting to look at things from the perspective of how people may be adversely impacted by allowing the perpetuation of immigration laws to be ignored. Continuing to ignore the issue of immigration reform and refusing to deal with illegal aliens (not necessarily the same thing) brings a whole 'nother set of problems to a country that needs to get its act together fast! The question remains -- Are we a nation of laws or not? This is not about singling out a group, but instea

I think that this marketing strategy is not inappropriate, generally speaking. It's effectiveness should not be a matter of consideration to anyone but the owners. In other words, if an advertisement (hypothetically) is in bad taste or crude or insensitive - the fact that it is effective in bringing customers to the store doesn't make the advertisement any more tasteful or any less crude or insensitive. Here's a (hypothetical) for-instance: A prominent Paulding County family is tortured and killed in their own home. Dad, mom, brother and sister - All are brutally -

I suggest letting the chips fall where they may. If that means that they have to pay real money for people to pick the fruit, then the price of , for instance, peaches doubles. Or quadruples, whatever the market will support. The fact that farm labor has been illegally obtained (i.e. no taxes withheld) in the past is not a sound reason for continuing the practice. Companies' bottom lines are at stake - I understand that. But I also understand that there comes a time to stand up for the law of the land. Or to declare that you don't want any part of it and you want to give another form of go

20-something million illegal aliens don't pay their fair share of taxes, but drain the system due to using the resources. Somebody has to address the issue in some way and behind that action has to be an ideology based in law. Either we are a nation of laws or we are not. The fact that the law has gone unenforced in the past is not an ENTITLEMENT to continue to flaut it. I think that they should put company owners in jail and seize the company's assets if they are non-compliant. Now, if you want to streamline the pathway for citizenship or some other legal method for workers to remain in t

When a person turns his/her eyes outward, there's a lack of perspective that can only be balanced by a look inward (introspection). That's where the context of the relationship can be found - in that balance. When someone feels a sense of regret - not that there's any hand-wringing going on - it's usually not in the context of the big-picture relationship. It's what, a long time ago, Ludlow Porch used to call a gnat bite. It's really insignificant, in the scheme of things, but it's something that, at a particular moment, is a slight bother. Most folks experience these gnat-bites -

You have a point. Here's the counterpoint: Women see this as a romantic gesture because this guy is looking at the way that his girlfriend would like to RECEIVE the proposal. It's attractive to the female because he is considering HER in the equation. This is a skill that will serve him well as a life-partner. While I might consider it romantic to propose at a casino with a cheesy line like, "Won't you take the gamble with me?" - That's ME and not WE. How she wants to hear it matters. It does. If a person can't step out of his machismo long enough to consider HER, then THAT'S when -

You've heard the saying, "Why pay for the cow when you can get milk for free?" How about just a banner that announces: "I'm willing to pay for the cow!" Romantic AND to-the-point! -
Is our Judicial System as broken as Healthcare is?
eym_sirius replied to surepip's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I think that the reason for the breakdown is pretty obvious. As the population rises the court system, law enforcement, and the penal system have to grow proportionally. They have not. There is a significant number of illegal aliens who are taking up prison space and using valuable resources because our politicians do not have the testicular fortitude (or the female equivalent) to resolve the immigration problem. Gwinnett County has an online database of currently incarcerated individuals. One can draw his own conclusions about the immigration issue gunking up the courts and the jails. Tak -
