  1. Longjohns AND rain ponchos for Friday Night Football, I guess.......YUK!
  2. My son is a senior. He will be 18 in 6 weeks, so my rules now were definitely not my rules when he was 13. No bedtime--you have to get up and go to school every day. The bedtime kind of sets itself. Curfew is determined by where he going, what he is doing. Generally 10PM weeknights, but he plays football and does little else during the week. Midnight on weekends unless the activity warrants a later time. internet access is closely monitored with one of those programs that tells us where he has been on the internet, phones/text--not a big deal for him personally. Now the daughters wer
  3. I've been hearing "Olive Garden" rumors for YEARS! Please make it happen somebody!
  4. I second Banning Mills if you just want a weekend alone. Not much to do.....but be alone but beautiful, great food and very romantic little cabins with tin roofs. The weekend we went, a thunderstorm came through and that tin roof was amazing!
  5. This is my most peeviest of peeves. I can handle most of the other stuff, but this one....I have to walk away from the computer cause Pubby will give me a bullet if I reply with what I'm thinking!
  6. Here is what that link says: Charitable Contributions - Written Acknowledgments The written acknowledgment required to substantiate a charitable contribution of $250 or more must contain the following information: Name of the organization; Amount of cash contribution; Description (but not value) of non-cash contribution; Statement that no goods or services were provided by the organization, if that is the case; Description and good faith estimate of the value of goods or services, if any, that organization provided in return for the contribution;
  7. No, the organization does not need to know what you put on your taxes. If I am cleaning out closets, I list items by group ITEM PURCHASE PRICE FMV 12 pairs of jeans $420 (12 X $35) $84 (12 X $7) 14 t-shirts 8 pairs of shoes 1 coat If you list it as you go, you will have a good support for your donation amount and much less trouble down the road if the IRS questions your deduction. (You can also take a picture of the items--especially large items such as furniture)
  8. Fair market value--or cost-whichever is lower--but usually FMV at time of donation will be less than what you paid for something new. What is it worth at the time of donation? If you shop at resale shops, you will have a good idea of the value of, say, a used pair of jeans or shoes. The IRS does not have a list, but the Salvation Army does. Go to their website and you can use their list to get an idea. And the 501c3 is not supposed to assess value. The donor is supposed to do this using fair market value.
  9. Westridge Church has teamed up with Samaritans Purse in helping with flood victims. Also the church (along with other churches) has a separate 501©3 for activities such as this and the Community Makeover that occurred this summer. It is Engage Atlanta www.engageatlanta.org

  11. I don't remember big skirts in the '80's. Now she needs some SHOULDER PADS! and some leg warmers !
  12. I have to recommend Dr Achecar at Resurgens. I had total hip replacement two years ago. Four inch incision....up walking day after surgery, off of crutches two weeks after surgery, back working out at the gym six weeks after. My gait is more even than ever in my life. The skill of the doctor makes all the difference in something like this---that and the patients willingness to do the physical therapy. I made "me" my most important project for three months after the hip replacement. I did every bit of physical therapy that they would let me do....at least three times a day! I was doing 2
  13. Don't think EPHS played tonight, but SPHS was up in Cartersville at Cass and THEY shot off their cannon two or three times!
  14. I think MillCreek started it. She's got this thing about pole dancing you know!
  15. I don't respond much Tara, but you and your sweet sister to know you are in our prayers. Hopefully, she is on the oncology floor by now. and getting help with the pain. It is so frustrating that the pain can't be managed. It's bad inough to be dealing with the cancer--at least give her some pain relief!
  16. I am by no means a doctor, but my nephew had constant, very serious, life threatening pnuemonia, and other infections from three weeks of age. At four years old they found his immune system not producing antibodies. My sister said the doc said it was like half his immune system didn't function at all. The started him on some kind of gamma gobulin infusion (he would go in once a month for this and it took like three hours). But the miraculous thing was that he quit getting sick! At the end of the 4th week, he would start getting a snotty nose, but then he would get a new infusion and be fi
  17. We had a WestRidge group working at Tara Drummond Park on the Silver Comet trail. Weeded, edged, planted new flowers, shrubs(donated by Lost Mountain Nursery) and palms (donated by our Pcom palm guy). The crew also cleaned the fountains and the park looks amazing! I, too, can't wait for the service tomorrow!
