  1. Start drinking. It won't help, but you won't care! lol
  2. My friend's daughter got married and I catered it for 150. I did: Sausage w/peppers and onions Baked Ziti Swedish meatballs with egg noodles Spinach Salad Rice casserole with mushrooms and peas Hawaiian Chicken Red potatoes with dill Linguine with white clam sauce There were a few more, but I don't remember it. I cooked everything the night before. It was a piece of cake! And I DON'T cook......believe me!
  3. Thank you. I am not strong, Shannon was, although she would never let us talk about her "courage in the face of adversity" or "how strong she was during her fight". Shannon's motto was "it is what it is". She took it all in stride, although when she was alone I am sure there were many tears and some anger. Shannon handled her illness with grace, and strength I didn't know she had. I learned so much from her. As I said in my eulogy, I was blessed to have loved her, and honored to call her my sister, and my friend.
  4. How exciting! Jenna went to Istanbul 2 years ago, and said it was AMAZING! She has to shop in the bazaar. Jenna said Turkey was the most beautiful place she has ever seen!
  5. for Shannon's memorial service. It is all finally sinking in that she is gone. I gave the eulogy, and I made it through without crying! I wanted to share the eulogy with you so you know a little bit about my sister. Once again, thank you all so much for your support and prayers while I was going through this with her. It was a long road...... 43 years ago, I had surgery to close a hole in my heart. 3 months ago, that hole reopened, and no Doctor on this earth can fix it. Standing here today is one of the hardest things I have ever done, but it is the last thing I can do fo
  6. Being that my brothers and father are LEO (Detectives and FBI), we teach our children that policeman are good and are here to protect us. However, if my child got caught stealing, I would have no problem driving him to the police station and letting him tell the officer what he did. He needs to know there are consequences for illegal actions. I will NOT make my children afraid of the police, though. Actually, my 7 yr old wants to be a PO (and a Marine).
  7. Prayers sent up. I HATE cancer!

My daughter is 20 and has never had alcohol. Her closest friends do not drink, either. I wanted her to have a "super" sweet 16 with all the bells and whistles (alcohol for the adults, only), but she opted for a cruise instead. It broke my heart! I drink (socially) and there is alcohol in my house, but my daughter would never touch it! I would NEVER offer alcohol to minors. NEVER!
  9. Not all of us talk trash about southerners.......... And I don't think Ga sucks.
  10. I have never heard anyone say anything derogatory about southerners when I was living on Long Island. I didn't hear any of that until I moved here! I get called a Yankee daily. It doesn't offend me anymore (unless you call me a damn Yankee........that's just rude!) I chalk it up to the culture. I have had many occasions to remind people that the war is over. It's been over and done with for a long time. Someone has to win, and someone has to lose. We are "One Nation" as our pledge states........let's live up to the words we pledge faithfully! ] BTW, I have met as many rude sou
  11. I don't think it is bad. It's a costume. Their talent is amazing. Girls 10 yrs older cant dance that well.
  12. After MANY discussions, we decided on a name. We ADORE our exchange student who is leaving us in July, and he wanted us to name the dog after him. There was NO WAY I was naming this dog Roberto!. However, Roberto's nickname is Tabo (derived from his last name), so we are going to name him Tabo.......and I can call him Bo (which I wanted to begin with). A happy compromise! I just hope this means I don't need to get another dog next summer and name him after my new exchanges student, Elise!!
  13. My Jewish SIL might not like that! Since I live on 278, and NG is suggesting southern names, should I name him "Jimmy Lee"? Keep them coming!
  14. I considered Loki, too. My husband is Norwegian, and his grandfather was in the Norwegian navy, so he used to tell people his grandfather was a viking!! It might fit! I will suggest it!

    Strange, but good!
  16. We currently have a Sampson.....if it was a girl, he would be Delilah! I keep suggestions Zeus.....DH is having no part of it! That;s it........his name is officially Lady Raider!!!
  17. My husband has had a Max.......but I like it! Anything is better than farticus........
  18. We are keeping one of the shepherd puppies. He is the biggest one, and we have called him Bubba since he was born. Of course, we didn't plan on keeping one, but the kids really want him. We are NOT going to keep calling him BUBBA! I currently have 2 sheps, Sophie and Sampson, and a yorkie, Astro (don't ask a 4 yr old to name her dog... lol) I want a good, strong name. We have already had a Toby, and a Jackson. Duke is out (did that one too!). I like Dutch. My daughter likes Shep. My other daughter likes Zeddicus (NOT) and my son chose Farticus! lol Any other suggestions?

2 years............but she loves it now! I am proud. Thanks! I loved the ending, too. Jenna wanted to write plays, but has decided to be a novelist instead. As far as the job thing, she is going to try to start out as an editor! She knows she needs to make a living, too! lol Although I LOVE this poem, compared to what she writes now, it is juvenile. She can write in so many different genres. Her professors have told her she is one of the most talented writers they have ever taught, and use her work to teach other students. She is really, really tale

My daughter is an English major, with a minor in creative writing. She's very good (according to her professors, not just me). I came across this poem she wrote a few years ago. It's a 16 yr olds take on moving across the country. I enjoyed it and wanted to share. Where I am I am from a road with too many bumps. with the big purple car wash at the end. Where we played SPUD in the street, man hunt in the yard and hit fireflies with a bat at night. I am from good Italian food, good Chinese food, and good Indian food. I am from a place where your religion doesn't matter, but Yank
  21. Trust me........he will outgrow it. This is my 3rd time going through it. I thought I was going to give away my 2 daughters. By the time they turned 10, it was all over. My middle daughter just turned 10 and she is a totally different kid. My son is about to have his head handed to him, though. I also find that he is like that when he is tired, mostly after school. In the meantime, just keep doing what you are doing. It won't last forever! Good luck!
  22. Our loss on Earth is HIS gain in God's Kingdom. God bless the Babecka family.
  23. Don't worry about it. I have found that between 7 and 8, all of my children got like that. They grew out of it! My son is 7 1/2 and I am growing through the same thing. Good luck and have patience.
