He wasn't given shields to wear over his eyes??? When I had my procedure a number of years ago, I was given two clear plastic shields and a roll of paper tape and was told to cover my eyes any time I slept for a week afterward. The sunglasses will be better than nothing - good for him for thinking of it!
  2. ... what about AT&T's newest one for U-Verse? Two parents are debating over which of their children they love more (while the children in question are sitting about two feet away) and therefore who should have the last available recording slot on the DVR (or something to that effect). I'm pretty twisted, and not at all sentimental about children, but this commercial is a real turn-off, IMO. It's not cute or funny to talk about having a favorite kid, even in a fake family.
  3. Pubby, is your proofreader on vacation?

Go to WalMart or its equivalent and try on some of the reading glasses there. You may decide that store-bought reading glasses will serve you just as well as anything the doctor can prescribe. I've been completely satisfied with doing that myself - that way I can afford to keep several pairs of readers around the house and even in the car.
  5. They have a bit of a bite, but you don't breathe fire after eating them. Oh, dear - that's just *criminal*! One of our best friends says that the test of a great dish is whether or not it can act as a cheese delivery device. LOVE cheese!

  7. Your name is familiar to me. I didn't attend many events because of my job, but you may know my husband - he was THL Martin Dragonet.
  8. Very cool. I've always wished that there were more archers in the SCA - I think they lend a lot of authenticity to the war scenarios. I'd love to see some photos of your daughter in her Japanese garb. You could blur her face if you don't like putting pictures of your child on the Internet - I know many people are uncomfortable with that.
  9. Yep. My husband was an active member for many years (started in college), and I was a member for a while as well. I'm assuming that they *do* give people spoons for the soup (?) Spoons are period, after all ... I wonder if they would freak out if I took my dagger to eat with ....
  10. Not *nearly* as clever or funny as the one with the Russian guy and his tiny giraffe.
  11. Not many people choose Japanese personas - I only saw a few in the days when my husband and I were active. Does she play frequently?
  12. I've never been, but speaking from experience with numerous Ren faires and as a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism for many years, it is *imperative* that you're open to the corniness of it. If someone calls you 'm'lady,' play along! If a performer or server kisses your hand, enjoy it! I'd like to go sometime and wear my SCA garb, just to get in the spirit of the thing.
  13. I would propose to you that the *actions* of this woman, and not her race, speak more to any 'culture' in which she was reared.
  14. All they have to do is remove your postings from their news feed. If they want to check on you, they can manually click on your name and go look at your wall or just drop you a message.
  15. Why would you automatically assume that culture = race? There are persons of all races who are reared to tolerate, if not embrace, violence.
  16. LPPT, I think you're getting the garage sale posts because your *friends* are posting from the group, not from the group itself. If you're willing to block your sale-crazy friends from your news feed - which is different from 'unfriending' them - that will fix it. I'm in both the PC and the Hiram groups, but have only posted to the Hiram one twice. I created an album for my items, so that the only time it'll appear on anyone's news feed is when I update the album. Some people are posting things individually, which is tiresome. To be fair, the Hiram group admins seem to be keeping a
  17. LR, is that forum available for non-paying members?
  18. The admins of the Hiram group are allowing trade notices - all they ask is that you put WTT (Want To Trade) at the beginning of your listing. I don't know what the Paulding County group permits.
  19. Good question - I don't know. You could ask someone who has already posted some items and see what they say ....
  20. Wow - how does something like *that* happen??? Did they make the driveway themselves, or did a builder foul that up?
  21. Yep, the guys who did ours were here a while, as well. I watched for a bit to see what they were doing ... apparently they used GPS and perhaps some kind of metal detector to verify the original rebar pin placement, and if was correct they dug down and secured an above-ground stake to it with reflective tape. In our case, since one of our original pins *was* out of place, they actually dug it up and moved it to where it was supposed to be, *then* placed the marker. We got our money's worth.
  22. I'll send you a PM with the link. We paid $250 for pin placement at the four corners. If you wanted a plat drawing as well, that was $450.
