  1. With the Norfolk Southern Intermodal yards less than 10 miles down 278 ? Where do you get the idea light manufacturing and warehousing needs an interstate ? They need a buidling accessible to trucks and workers. The WallMart Southeastern Logistics Warehouse facility, where most of the goods for all WallyWorld Stores in the Southeast are shipped from is in Douglas, Ga. and is 40 miles from an interstate. Just curious as to why you feel an interstate is a requirement.
  2. What infrastructure do we not have for light manufacturing and warehousing ? Other than the fact we have no buildings sitting there ready to lease, we have everything they need, plus some. What are we missing ?
  3. Out of the whole bunch, I think Dubose Porter would do great. But I am afraid Roy's machine will be hard to beat once it gets cranked up and running. A great deal of rural Georgia and the inner cities will vote the D again after the past 8 years of Sonny and Richardson as well as the rest of the State.
  4. I have voted in every election since I turned 18.....back in the dark ages. Many by absentee when I was on the road, but myself, wife, and both kids always vote, even if it is for Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck at times. If you don't vote, you don't get bitchin privledges!
  5. The primary will be in July and there are I believe 3 candidates.
  6. And the Dixiecrats remained an Un-Official faction of the Democrats through the 1980s into the 1990s. The great majority of our Southern Democrats in the 2nd half of the 20th century were Dixiecrats who softened on segregation as they mellowed with age and some switched to the Republican side as they neared retirement.
  7. Good luck Whitey! When I tried to find out the answer to that I got bashed by you know who....... The amazing thing, to me as being somewhat knowledgeable of the history of the Dixiecrats, these modern Repubs in Paulding have no knowledge of the politics of the south as to why ALL of our politicians used to be Democrats and how hated the Republicans were going back to Reconstruction after the Civil War. Most of the Dixiecrats from the 1950s to the 1980s were far more moderate and conservative than the modern day Repubs. And they shied away from religious and morality issues. Church was for
  8. I will always remember when my good buddy from Brasil first visited the Metro Atlanta area in July: He got out of the car on the way into the office....had the breathe sucked out of him, his shirt became instantly soaked and he said compared to the Amazon in Brasil, summer weather was BRUTAL! It meant something from someone familiar with the Amazon area.
  9. Spiral sliced ham from Saturday night, cole slaw, Mexican style cornbread [made with Masa instead of cornmeal mix] and red-eye gravy.
  10. WSB says its 64F, but I don't believe it is that warm. The garden will be loving this weather though, at least the potatoes, lettuce, arugula, spinach, broccoli, etc. Might consider a fire in the fireplace but MrsSurepip already has it set up how she wants it for the summertime. Jumped the gun there.
  11. Just so you have an FYI: Yesterday was the busiest day of the year for Jim & Nicks, and I have to assume they had the tables packed in tight. Son is and has been a server there for 5+ years. Give them a try again on a not so busy day.
  12. Age it for a week, liberally sprinkled with kosher salt and fresh ground pepper. Then marinate as per your choice. WE do one called a Brillant Broil, were we wrap the cut of meat in an inexpensive package of bacon, totally wrapping the steak. And then grill it on super high heat, literally setting it one fire. We do it for 2 minutes a side, turning it 3-4 times. Peel off the burned bacon, and slice, on the bias at 45 degrees. Brilliant!
  13. Just what are you babbling about ?
  14. Eggs Benedict and mimosas for brunch, with roses. Saute'd Foie Gras on a bed of baby arugula with a redwine balsamic reduction sauce and a chilled Rose' for dinner.
  15. As of a week ago last Monday, they had to sign an oath of allegiance to the GOP to qualify for statewide office.
  16. We were willing to have all the land around our little oasis go industrial. Had it happened when we started dealing with the strawman in 2002-2003, it would be half or more built out by now, and it surely would have been easier on us than what the developer did to us. Palisades has the Cadillac industrial park to the west, with Heavy Industrial [a company who unloads Chlorine and Sulphuric Acid from rail cars to big storage tanks, where they pump it into tanker trucks for delivery]MG International to the East, with the new hospital campus adjacent. So of course, put a 500 house PRD in the
  17. Thank you. I wish more would stop to consider we did every thing with the law to defend out property corners, with all of the "Powers that Be" working against us. We filed suit when Ben Skipper from Community Development told us they were taking back our buffer because of the new stream ordinance laws and if we did not like it then we should hire an attorney......which is what we did.' How many of you would fight to defend what you bought and paid for only to see the developers take it away from you? And we are still paying taxes on the land they took from us no less !!!
  18. Virtually every tractor trailer coming out of the Powder Springs Intermodal yard which is going West towards North Alabama or I-75 towards Chattanooga comes right through Paulding County. They turn right on 92 heading to I75 or continue West on 278 and head towards Alabama. That is considered good access. The Paulding PRD ROBBER BARPOM MEGA DEVELOPERS wanted nothing to do with Industrial Business Parks. They did not know how to do them and make near the profits. WE had an industrial development group from Birmingham who wanted to buy the 60 acres we had a first option on as well as the
  19. Only if you want it to happen. Yes, it has been done in many places with much success. But here in Paulding we let our IBA and general county fund pay out more than $5million in the last year to build the airport terminal and the parkway road going into the airport. But not a square foot of space to rent for a warehouse or buisnsess with "government fund".
  20. I have to assume you are OK with your BOC spending more than $1million to fight us. Jerry Shearin was the man in charge when our suits were initiated. Beverly was his right arm. She even told us we should have HAPPY with the 25' of buffers we got and not complain about not getting the 40' we were given at the planining and zoning meeting. Beverly also refused to give us a copy of the stipulations at the BOC meeting in March 2005, stating they were only available for the Applicants. So it was another 2 months before we were able to even see what the final written stipulations were. I ha
  21. Yeah, why should anyone whine about $400,000 pissed away by us, and another $1,000,000+ by the county in lawsuits trying to protect your land and home. And the BOC lawyer even commented in his arguments at the last hearing how any homeowner should be able and willing to spend $500,000 to litigate their elected representatives. Tax payer waste of money, and a much bigger tax payer waste of money when we win.
  22. There is also Adam Gregory in that race as well. Comments on him ? I have a bad taste over my experiences with King Jerry and his entire administration so Yes, I am very much biased and down right myoptic when it comes to discussing them. So I will just bow out of this one for now.
  23. Assuming the SPLOST passes, the East Hiram Parkway will alleviate a great deal of the afternoon Hiram SPrawl by allowing a large number of cars to get off 278 at what is now Cleburne Parkway. It should help quite a bit. There is discussions of some sort concerning the old stinky fields which are also adjacent to the NS tracks. But for a developer to come here the county is going to have to offer to work with them to build a nice industrial/office/warehouse park and to date that has never happened. And I am afraid the Industrial Building Authority has spent its money on the airport term
  24. That is your choice as well. Tommie Graham has done an outstanding job the past 2 years and was the first commissioner to actually question, out loud, in public what was going on and vote to put things on hold until he could become more aware of what was involved. He was a thorn in Shearin's rear more than once while King Jerry finished out his lame duck term the end of 2008. I had substantial dealings with the BOC and Beverly Cochran continually from 2002 until we entered our suits in June 2006. I wish I could say some nice things but I can't. I wish I could say we were treated fairly, bu
