  1. Kind of ironic isn't it. That contributor's list could almost be a "Who's Who" of the local Robber Baron Mega Developers couldn't it ?
  2. Oh so true. Different strokes for different folks. I applaud those candidates who chose to be reasonable and have a limit to 2 signs. They are to be commended. I am going to try to get by there again to see just who has pulled their signs, and to see who has littered the Taj Mahal with theirs.
  3. Now just how am I slandering anyone ? It bothers me because it seems to be absurd, childish, and looks about as tacky as is remotely possible. Some of the candidates realized how bad it looked and chose to remove all but 2 signs each, 1 at the entrance and 1 at the exit. Some of the other candidates, including Beverly Cochran and Drew Lane have OVER 50 signs each in front of the building. I guess you can defend their rights to do so all you want. I think it is in poor taste. Especially when you consider many of the signs were purposely placed in front of existing signs from other c
  4. There is also a report for the Committee for Excellence for our Kids, which preceeded the Committee to Support Paulding Schools which financed the 1st Bond Referendum which was defeated. Excellence for our Kids But strange thing there......The only financial report shows raising $2000, but the expenditures shows paying back the county [i assume the cost of the referendum ?] $10,408.53 to the BOC. But it does not show where the other $8400 came from ..... And $10k is all it costs to hold a special referendum separate from any other election ? Something is fishy with this....
  5. Frasier did one hell of a job putting together the group to help Atlanta get the Olympic Games, and the group who managed building the housing, venues and operating the games as well as getting Centennial Park built. All at a profit for the city when the dust settled. Maybe some good can come out of this.
  6. Left over baby back pork ribs, pasta with chicken alfredo sauce, shredded goose with mushrooms in a redwine gravy, deviled eggs, and cole slaw was last night. Cleaned out the fridge pretty good. I will seal-a-meal the rest of the goose and gravy this evening for pot pie filling. Tonight I am going to stop at Kroger and pick up some of the $4 Cod, $5 shrimp, and bake them in parchment paper wrappers with some lime and white wine, butter and garlic. Maybe a little thyme and parsley from the garden. Fish ain't gonna be going down in price for a long long time, I figure to eat plenty while
  7. Several of the European countries have done just that. Pot, Porn, and Prostitution. All are taxed, and regulated. STDs rates there are much lower and street crime in general is far less as well. Holland has the highest virgin marraige rate in the western world. So go figure.
  8. If anyone is out and about with a camera, please take some shots of the 50+ signs that both Beverly and Drew have up at the Taj Mahal, and post them on here for all to see. Anyone who takes things to that extreme is not who we want representing us in government. Use some common sense people. Right!
  9. Beverly Cochran and Drew Lane should both be ashamed! Take a drive through the Courthouse Taj Mahal Adminstrative Complex and TRY to count the signs. I bet you lose count before going from the entrance to the exit of Cochran and Lane signs. I believe Whitey commented on this yesterday, and pointed out that David Barnett, Todd Pownall and some others had removed all but 2 signs, one at the entrance and one at the exit. I have to assume this is beneath Beverly, Drew, et al. Those with more than 2 signs up really should be ashamed and need to go and remove them. It is absurd, to s
  10. Don't worry. There is a sitting commissioner who would agree with not hiring blacks. Pitiful, but true.
  11. Explanation for the rest of us who have no idea what you are referring to ?
  12. But Delta does get protection while everyone else continues to take cuts and pay their taxes ? Take one line or the other. You cannot preach small government, reduced taxes, and capitalism, and support Delta getting more in tax breaks than it would take to fund the necessary teachers for the kids. One road or the other....you can't go down both at the same time.
  13. Where did Mr Avery say he would be pushing for pay raises for teachers ? Right now I think for many teachers just receiving the full amount of their contracted salary would be nice. Instead, like many other state workers, they have been forced to take furlough days, but still have the same workload. No one else is doing their job for them on the days they are furloughed. And the stipends many teachers received for paying to get additional post graduate degrees and teaching certificates have been cut in half, or stopped altogether even though that also was part of their "Contract".
  14. Absolutely. And even though you can only vote for your post, it does indeed help the BOC in general if the various commissioners can work together and get more accomplished. Tommie Graham has been a tremendous breathe of fresh air on the BOC and obviously comes to the meetings well prepared having done a great deal of homework. And there is nothing "against the rules" in trying to help other well qualified candidates get elected in the other posts. Unfortunately, we are in Post 1 and are stuck with Larry Ragsdale as our commissioner for another 2 years. I am hoping he will end up a
  15. I met Todd at Relay for Life I guess 10 years or so ago. He and Jeff Israel would be there all night making sure everything ran smoothly. Anyone who would work as hard as he did, for free, to make an event like that happen has to have his heart in the right place. I got to know Todd after that and have known him to be a hard working individual out there trying to peddle houses. And I gained a great deal of respect for Todd when he stood up to Jerry Shearin on camera taking insult after insult but not losing his cool. He single handedly exposed the sneaky back door tax increase King
  16. Delta's tax break was in essence a State funded Bail-Out after 911 hurt their revenue. Delta then went on several years later to pay their Board of Directors more than $400 million dollars in end of year Golden Parachute Bonuses, and then filed Chapter XI Bankruptcy less than 60 days later. And you want to continue a tax credit where by they don't pay taxes on the fuel they purchase ? Yet it is then OK to fire thousands and thousands of teachers and substantially increase the classroom sizes ? Unbelievable!
  17. So instead we fire teachers and increase classroom sizes ? Delta gets a "special" break. AirTrans does not even though their hub is here as well. KIA gets a "special" break, and GM and Ford don't, and shut down their plants taking thousands of jobs with them. Our kids are our future and to gut the education system reducing the expected quality of the education the kids will receive while giving billions in tax breaks to certain companies sure seem foolish.
  18. With close to 300 teachers just having gotten cut in Paulding alone, the statement above is one of the most absurd ones I have ever seen on this board. Maybe you are happy with the way the State House and Governor have turned their backs on education, but there are thousands and thousands out there who are not very happy about unlimited class size and reduced days, let alone reduced wages for the teachers who choose to stay in their profession. The kids are our future and education is the key.
  19. I agree, and feel the same about Todd. Tommie Graham has been the most pro-active involved Commissioner we have ever had on the BOC and has helped get things back on an even keel. I see him and David Austin continuing to work well together and with Todd Pownall and David Barnett on board I feel they could actually help bring economic/industrial development to Paulding. What I don't understand are the number of people wanting to put the "Good 'Ol Boy" Group back in charge of the BOC ?
  20. Pretty much with an iron fist if you chose to go against them. They could manipulate the various county agencies to allow their developer buddies do whatever they chose regardless of the negative effect on the rest of the county. To the previous BOC the individual citizen had no rights what-so-ever. If a developer, who was part of "The Group" wanted to change zoning stipulations, they changed them. If a developer wanted to amend zoning stipulations after the fact, the adjacent property owners were not even allowed to be involved. If a developer wanted some of your right of way to make mor
  21. I have to assume then you approve of Delta's $500,000,000 tax break ? Why not one for Airtrans as well ? And in the meantime, the state unfunds education ? Come on now, where are your priorities ?
  22. Tommie Graham is as close to being an industrial developer as I know of in the county. I believe the Paris brothers have also done some. Tommie did the industrial development seen at the end of Cadillac Boulevard. Drive down to the end of the road and take a look. There are full time 40 hours a week jobs at several industrial business there. He also has the Alpha-Omega Mini-Warehouses. I do not believe he has any ties to the home building industry since he sold of Jariel Building Supplies many years ago and before that Railroad Lumber. I for one welcome anyone connected with industrial deve
  23. I think the issue at hand you are addressing is the fact the ROBBER BARON MEGA DEVELOPERS have had their way with Paulding for the past 10-15 years and they are who we need to "Thank" for our current situation, economically. Yes, the home building industry is a business, and is really the only business that fuels Paulding. But if you look at the situation pragmatically, it is a win-win situation for the developers; a reasonable industry for the home builder, but, and this is the crux of the matter. it does not really fuel the economy. It recycles the local money, pays an enormous amount to
  24. You best get a helmut! Personnally, right now I like Dubose Porter for Gov, and his wife Carol Porter for Lt Gov.....wouldn't that be a hoot. Seriously, Dubose and Carol Porter are impressive other than the "D". But he does not have the bankroll to beat Roy, although she just might be able to give old GED Casey Cagle a run for his money. Shouldn't we be looking to our leaders to do all that can be done to promote excellent education ? Wasn't that the BOE line of BS for the bonds.....Excellence for our kids ? Well what the hell happened ? Now we are willing to settle for over crow
  25. Not to be mean dear, but I would NOT be walking bare footed where the ducks are Pooping. They can carry some nasties that you really, really, really do not want to be walking in. Cute critters though. I prefer them filleted, with the breasts browned lightly to a medium rare.
