Spacers are so ridiculously painful for kids it should be considered child abuse. If your kid doesn't have braces yet then it is a waste of money. My friend is a dentist and not my dentist so she didn't try to get money out of me. She told me that when the adult tooth came in it would push the space back open anyways. She said that the only point was to keep it from making the teeth crooked as the new tooth came in. So basically the only negative affect is that your kids tooth will be crooked.
