We have had memory foam for a few years and I love it. I never thought it was too warm, but then I like to be cold at night so I keep the room itself quite cold. No smell ever. The tradition of giving at Christmas has been around a lot longer than the relatively recent tradition of showering people with gifts at VD, and it makes sense in the context of the history of Christmas. You're right. I'm sure that's what it has become. Retailers nowadays will create any excuse to get people to part with their money. Me personally, I don't need a special day to let my kids know I love them. But then that's just me, I guess.
