  1. Not the time to talk about preventing the loss of life and property ? ? ?

    ;)

Who do you think you're kidding ? This is about the Conservatives well known hatred of California because it's a Blue State, had this happened in Bungtruck Texas all we would have heard from the Right is a flood of prayers, lighted candles and sympathy.

  2. Members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on both sides of the aisle voiced their opposition to President Donald Trump’s proclamation of support for the Saudis, demanding answers into Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s (MBS) specific involvement in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Trump has referred to proper forestry management, which includes removing undergrowth and dead trees from forests. If California did this, especially in the forest areas close to communities, they could significantly reduce the amount of damage that occurs as a result of forest fires - even during periods of droughts, Germany is great at forestry management. Of course they are willing to spend the money on it; California apparently is not.

God if there's one thing I hate is a fake armchair lecturer trying to pretend to be some kind of expert The fact is Germany and California have about as much in common as Hawaii and Alaska, you haven't a clue to the challenges California faces or what they do to manage their forest, most of which is federal land to begin with.

The death toll in Paradise California is still rising their are over a thousand people still unaccounted for, people have lost their homes and everything they own overnight and all the Right has to offer is criticism.

  4. If you're trying to say this is no different than what Hillary Clinton did, then you are mistaken. The key difference here is Ivanka did no send any classified information, whereas Hillary Clinton did.

Actually the "key difference" is Ivanka is a Republican and the President's little girl. Outside of the obvious hypocrisy this shouldn't concern anyone, Ivanka's role in the administration is largely an imaginary one and the chances of her spreading top secret information small.

  5. We have controlled burns in this area. We don't have huge forest fires in spite of the fact that we have over 250,000 acres of forest just to our east. In fact, small forest fires here are rare. There's a lot of wisdom to what he says. My husband and I have often asked ourselves "do they do controlled burns in California".

You haven't had a ten year drought or do you have 60 mph Santa Ana winds either.

  6. How does the saying go, You can't fix stupid ? Somehow Trump thinks California and a country located near the arctic circle are the same.

Donald Trump wants California to rake forests to prevent fires.

"I was with the President of Finland, and he said: 'We're a forest nation' and they spent a lot of time on raking and cleaning and doing things, and they don't have any problem."

In his first comments about the California disaster on Twitter, rather than offering condolences, the President threatened to withdraw federal payments and blamed the state's "gross mismanagement" for the fires.

  7. Republican Party has become a 'personality cult' under Trump

WASHINGTON — George T. Conway III, the husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, said the Republican Party has become “a personality cult” under President Trump...

“I don’t feel comfortable being a Republican anymore,” Conway said “I think the Republican Party has become something of a personality cult.”

Washington (AFP) - Hate crimes surged 17 percent in the United States in Donald Trump's first year as president, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said in a new report Tuesday.

The FBI said that 7,175 hate crimes were reported during 2017, compared to 6,121 in 2016.

Hate crimes of all types -- based on race, religion, gender and sexual orientation -- were higher.

  9. Over nearly a century, Rose Mallinger saw the best and worst of America. Until Saturday.

The gunman aimed at pews filled with grayed heads and timeworn faces — faces that had lived through so much of the past — and fired, killing 11 congregants.

None had seen more than 97-year-old Rose Mallinger, whose 61-year-old daughter (injured but expected to recover) brought her to worship every Shabbat. ...

In the ten days after Trump was elected, there were more than 900 hate crimes against Muslims, people of color and Jews, and the Anti-Defamation League reported a 57 percent rise in anti-Semitic incidents — everything from bomb threats to vandalism — in the U.S. in 2017, compared to the year before. In February 2017, after Trump’s inauguration, more than 100 gravestones were vandalized at Jewish cemeteries outside Philadelphia and St. Louis, Mo. In Charlottesville, Va., six months later, skinheads and neo-Nazis held torches and chanted, “Jews will not replace us.”

“We all need to learn the lessons of history and stand up in our own time and our own lives,” said a statement of solidarity with Pittsburgh from the Chicago History Museum. In her 97 years, Rose Mallinger’s life was that history. She lived through times when her country did well by all the flavors in its melting pot, and through times when it did not.

She survived them all, until she didn’t.

  10. In the wake of eleven innocent lives taken at the hands of a Neo Nazi White Supremacist Pittsburg has a message for Donald Trump ...

Stay Away From Pittsburgh: 'You Are Not Welcome'

“President Trump, you are not welcome in Pittsburgh until you fully denounce white nationalism,” the leaders of the local chapter of Bend the Arc wrote, adding:

“For the past three years, your words and your policies have emboldened a growing white nationalist movement. You yourself called the murderer evil, but yesterday’s violence is the direct culmination of your influence.”

  11. There is massive floating garbage dump that is floating out on the Pacific ocean ( Twice the size of Texas) It's nice to see someone is finally attempting to do something about it, and it's being done by a 24 year old entrepreneur. It's a start.

The project, known as System 001, will begin its test launch off the coast of San Francisco.

The Ocean Cleanup estimates it can remove 50% of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in five years.

  12. My point RM is a push back on the wide spread liberal assumption that all conservatives cut down trees, drive gas guzzlers, hate wildlife, pollute streams and generally hate the planet which was the implication of the OP article. The very title implies conservatives hate the environment and the first post claims the same about Republicans. I was merely responding to a thread that was political by nature if you will read the topic and first post. I never stated liberals contribute or don't I merely said I know personally many conservatives that do including myself. You do realize the whole thread is a troll right? My bad for thinking I could state facts that are 100% accurate.

I'm sorry SW if my title offended you, it wasn't meant to offend anyone just a poor attempt at humor., it's an important subject though one that deserves discussion but maybe too sensitive a topic to joke about. I think everyone is concerned about the environment it's just the approach to dealing with it that has us all so divided.

  13. If dirty air, toxic water and horrific weather events does not concern your average card carrying Republican what could possibly make them care about the planet ?
