  1. Thank you Citizens for a Better Paulding County. Are you outraged yet we have been lied to, the commercialization shoved down our throats, politicians having secret meetings, telling us it's the only way we can have jobs? Do you know we have three industrial parks sitting virtually empty, except for one or two businesses? Do you know the grass is four foot tall in those business parks, do you know no environmental tests have been done or spec buildings built because all the available capital has gone to the airport and film studio. It's time to replace politicians that refuse to allow the publ
  2. Within days after Gwinnett Commissioners rejected the Propeller proposal, Blake Swafford (our airport director) called Brett Smith and offered up our airport to him. http://www.ajc.com/news/news/local/gwinnett-rejects-commercial-flights-at-briscoe/nQWKW/ This is a very good article on how this idea was birthed and hidden from public view. Kelly Yamanouchi with the AJC has done a great job reporting on the "events". http://www.usatoday.com/story/todayinthesky/2013/12/24/plans-delayed-for-atlantas-second-commercial-airport/4195291/
  3. Here's the first meeting in November 2013, this is the one I have the Power Point on.
  4. Glass Dogs. it will take a week to type all that. Hang on there is video of the two meetings we did on youtube. I'll get the links and I have a power point presentation from our first meeting I'd be glad to share with you if you can open a .ppt file. If you google Brett Smith Briscoe field, (he's with Propeller) you'll start where I did. There's a lot of info still out there on his attempt to commercialize that airport in Gwinnett County. The contracts the PCAA signed are with Silver Comet Terminal Partners, a subsidiary of Propeller Investments.
  5. Airlines are private industry, they certainly have the right to streamline their operations and reorganize their flight destinations. In my opinion the FAA is forcing airports and enticing them with "free money" is the government still trying to control an industry. They're trying to override the free market, it's not working and Brett Smith has already shut down other businesses that didn't perform like he and his investors expected. Other than manipulate municipalities to go after FAA money so he can launch his business, what does Brett Smith do?
  6. Because the FAA wants to keep it open. It's very tough to close a commercial airport once a 139 is issued, if not impossible. That's another my issues with commercialization, you can't go back. The FAA controls the airport and we have to make room for any airline that wants to use our airport. Look at Dallas, Love Field. The FAA pretty much told them they have to expand so they can allow both Delta and Southwest to have gates. There has been mention of several other airports struggling to stay afloat like Ben Epps and Macon. The FAA is trying to help them stay open, but no one is bi
  7. It's already completed and done and they can't get a carrier.
  8. I do admire people that are interested in stepping up for public office but I do fear NJ is right, Ron Davis is well known and very respected. He will make a great commissioner.
  9. Ben Epps already has 139 certification (commercial service)....they were hoping for Amercian Airlines, it's a no go. They have no carrier and they have to get approval from the FAA to cancel the 139, not an easy task. They've been without a scheduled carrier for almost a year.
  10. I try to provide facts, data and studies. I have to admit sometimes I grow tired of people not looking at both sides and it sort of makes me angry. Let me just say this, I am not in the fight path, I live more than five miles from the airport, I did my homework and made my own conclusions. I hope everyone will do just that and not rely on "one side or the other". This is and always has been a contentious issue in Paulding County. I had to chuckle when someone told me they took school buses, cars, trucks, tractors, what ever they could find and surrounded the access points to the p
  11. Glassdogs, like you I knew there was an airport, it didn't bother me. Then I heard they were going to bring in Commercial flights, passenger planes with 130 people. I was like, huh? I was told it was a done deal and there was nothing that could be done to stop it. I first went to my post commissioner, then I started going to meetings, BOC, IBA, PCAA and yes even Dallas and Hiram city council meetings. After each meeting I started doing research. I sought out some very knowledgeable folks that know a whole lot more about airports than I do. Started gathering information about airp
  12. Here's Ron's Web site. http://openpaulding.org/
  13. Right now I know of Ron Davis and Jeremiah Fields. Glass Dogs are you thinking about running?
  14. Amen, someone is paying attention. Nope no such thing as free money. Now when it comes to the reservoir, the state has provided grants, but as with FAA money, it comes with a price. A little known fact, we will never own this reservoir........watch for Paulding County to have to buy their water from the State owned facility instead of Marietta. Of course the citizens of Paulding County will pay a huge chunk of the construction and land acquisition but we will never own the facility.
  15. Two candidates have already said they were running for Carmichael's seat. One is definitely pro-airport pro-commercialization.
  16. Our previous Economic Development Director, tried. The unelected boards that control these two authorities do only as they please. Why haven't they hired someone to market these facilities? Oh snap, they did hire someone to try and sell the film studio. That company is now under investigation by the GBI.
  17. Still no legitimate reason to get commercial service. I have seen nothing that a well run General Aviation airport can give Paulding County, except real leadership. . See we're not anti-airport, we're anti-commercialization. I'm very excited about a successful general aviation airport. Oh I was referring about the history of me and Rocky's Mom, not Paulding county.
  18. You don't know the history, again........it's just not worth it. I was sad you didn't introduce yourself the other day.
  19. I already said they were commercial airports..........I grow tired of people who have no clue about what is really going on. In September it will be one year since any commercial plane flew in or out of Macon. How's that working for the economy of that area? I just want to know how an airport 35 miles from Atlanta is going to be better than one 85 miles from Atlanta. Let's see if I can drive 35 miles to the busiest airport in the world and catch a flight to anywhere I want to go, why would I even think about driving to Dallas? There's not even a restaurant or gas station for miles.
  20. See that's what most people don't do, get all the facts! Yes Macon and Athens have commercial service, now tell me what airlines fly out of either of those? Really, you have no idea what you are talking about. I didn't click your link, I don't know what virus I might get. Yes the construction of the general aviation airport was largely funded by the FAA and the state paid for most of the Terminal Building. But............since completion, it's all been on the backs of the taxpayers...........including the Water Tank, the runway expansion, the crash truck, the hangar, no FAA money fo
  21. You are correct! Corporate jets do not require 139 certification. Passenger traffic, that sell tickets require Part 139. I am actually very excited about the prospects of our airport rivaling McCollum. With the success of that airport and Phoenix Air in Cartersville, just think what similar businesses can do for the airport and the area. Airports should grow with the community, depending on it to make the community grow is like building a film studio based on "good ideas" because we're in the Zone!
  22. That's simply your opinion. There are many people in this community that don't share your opinion on this issue. Yes, and there was a reason to build the film studio, too. We were "in the Zone"!!!! A successful general aviation airport will also provide long-term economic development and job creation. In fact, Snomish County's general aviation airport has supported about 30,000 jobs for Washington state for years. Macon couldn't make it with commercial service, Athens couldn't make it with commercial service, why doesn't Brett Smith go to one of those places? They are in desp
  23. Guntrucker, the economy tanked everywhere, not just Paulding County. McCollum, general aviation airport has grown by leaps and bounds, Cartersville airport, general aviation also grown by leaps and bounds. After 2010, there was no reason to start growing the airport again, we just didn't have anyone that knew what they were doing. When they should have been doing studies and marketing the airport, they were playing out there at the taxpayers expense. No one is seriously thinking about making it a drag strip, it's sort of a running joke, like the Yorkville tunnels. Still NO reason
  24. Oh our airport is a very positive thing...............and can be as successful as any General Aviation airport in the region. Just because I don't believe commercialization is the way to go, doesn't mean I'm negative. Perhaps it's those that can't get past promises of windfall dollars that have the negative perception. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Just ask Macon or Ben Epps. I'm excited to think we have every opportunity to be like McCollum or Cartersville. We can do it!
