  1. Or people could just be nice and decent toward one another. It's getting old browsing this site anymore because there's always a fight, no matter the topic, and I'm tired of seeing the same few people constantly bickering with each other.
  2. We need more individual restaurants and not so many chains. What's the best family-owned restaurant in Paulding? I've given up on most of the chain places!
  3. Several intersections on Ridge need lights. Trying to turn left is horrible. The Mein Mitchell/Hughes Rd intersection really needs one, as does Austin Bridge Rd. There also needs to be a stop sign on Austin Bridge coming up the hill at Mein Mitchell.
  4. So you've never gone to a restaurant/coffee house and waited for your friend to meet you before ordering? I've done that many times with zero problem. I was even waiting for my son to get off work, seated at a table, not ordering until he got off because I thought he was getting off in the next few minutes. He finally texted me that he wouldn't get off for another two hours, so I went ahead and ordered then but I'd been there a good hour at that time. My best friend, a doctorate candidate, spent HOURS at her local Starbucks studying without ordering anything. She just liked that atmosphere a
  5. After miscounting eggs and finding a real egg in mid-July inside my closet, I only hide fake eggs.
  6. My 16-year-old is just shy of 6 feet tall and weighs 115. His dad is 6'4" and is slender, I'm tallish and skinny, so he just inherited the skinny side from both parents. He eats a LOT, he's very physically active, no glandular problems, just tall and skinny and lanky. As they say in these parts, a tall drink of water.
  7. Prayers for all those involved. I'd heard it was an "instant bridge" and it was just installed 5 days ago. The image of those cars trapped underneath the rubble. . .the sad thing is this bridge was built because a student was hit and killed trying to cross that street. The only good thing, if there is one, is that the school is on spring break so there weren't students on the bridge.
  8. No brain tumor, just extensive brain damage from the limb falling on him. He far exceeded anyone's expectations. He was getting his personality back, he'd smile and laugh and frown. He'd have a cute little pout when it was time for a haircut but he'd smile big when his daddy got home from work. His mom and dad updated his progress daily on their Facebook page and they had over one million followers.
  9. Tripp Halstead, the beautiful boy who was severely injured when a tree limb fell on him outside his daycare in Georiga during Hurricane Sandy, died today. He fought so hard for so long, and his family's Facebook updates and strength touched us all. My heart breaks for his family.
  10. I block those calls on my cell so they can't call me again, but they have so many different numbers it's impossible to stop. I don't care if you can lower my credit card interest rate, I pushed option 2 to be removed from your call list, I've hit option 1 and asked the person to remove me from your call list (only to get hung up on every time), I've ignored your calls, but you keep calling me. STOP IT!!!
  11. I like what Hiram did. The school administration and student leadership agreed to not walk out and disrupt class time, instead they had a moment of silence at 10:00 for the 17 students at Parkland, the Hiram kids were encouraged to wear burgundy and gray (Stoneman Douglas' school colors), they had banners in the cafeteria kids could sign to show support for them and will be sent to Parkland, and each student was challenged to find 17 ways to bring more kindness and compassion to the school. Introduce yourself to 17 people you don't know, smile at the kid who looks like they're having a rough
  12. It depends on who I'm talking to and who the call is from. If I'm talking to my husband on my way home from work, nothing urgent, and my son calls, I'll see what my son needs because he's 16 and a new driver and goes from school to sports to work. My mom does that to me every time my sister calls LOL. I told her one time that I see who she likes more! She does call me back, though. In all seriousness, cell phones have given people a license to be rude. It's not just ditching one call for another, it's paying more attention to that screen than to whomever is in front of your face.
  13. I just hate having to use a flashlight to walk my kindergartener to the bus stop in the morning now. Our neighborhood has streetlights just in the very front, so the back 2/3 are pitch black. I do appreciate it at night when looking at the stars, but it's dangerous at the bus stop.
  14. Sorry. I knew she had done something with his cat and that was when she threw it out, fully declawed, and left it. I knew she did grab her cat before she left the fire. There is a family on Facebook looking for their missing cat and that family is hoping the cat got out and is just very scared and hiding nearby. She is charged with 3 counts of aggravated animal cruelty. She's (hopefully) facing a looooooong time in jail and won't hurt anyone again. My prayers are with those effected. The one bright spot in this tragedy, aside from no people losing their lives, is the fact that
  15. A little while back you were wondering why usage of this site had dropped? Prime example, posts 5-12, completely unrelated to the topic posted and turning into attacks and political agendas. Just stop it. Anyway, regarding the topic at hand, she's been charged with multiple counts of arson, which carry a sentence from 1-20 years each, and 3 counts of aggravated animal cruelty. I hope the animal cruelty charges are felonies too. No people died, but three pets perished in the fire. She got her own cat out but left her ex's cat in the house. You can't tell me that wasn't deliberate. Divorce
  16. We were leaving home and turning right onto Nebo from Wall Rd around 3:30 and saw lights and police cars on Nebo between Wall and Garmon. This was well after the "Polar" Plunge wrapped up. (Kinda hard to call it polar when it was in the 60s, but the water temps were probably still cold). Glad they raised $3,000 for the Special Olympics! My sister volunteered there one time and was hooked and goes every year, and my friend has a special needs son who goes every time too.
  17. My friend has two kids at PCHS and they were both texting her, freaking out, begging her to come get them. One of their teachers apparently locked the classroom door. One of my friend's friends replied to her FB post saying that her son texted her "they got him at lunch" indicating someone was arrested. I don't know what happened or what didn't happen, but based on reading her thread on FB, none of the parents believe the school and they're all VERY mad about the communication/lack thereof. I don't have a student at PC so all this is second hand and observation.
  18. What are some of your favorite mom and pop stores and restaurants? I like the shopping local idea but would like some direction as to who is good. I'm tired of the chain restaurans and want to switch to locally-owned eating establishments. Paulding really needs the income since we really don't have any industries out here!
  19. Oh, Lord, putting a convenience store at Bill Carruth and Ballentine Drive? Just imainge the cluster getting in and out of there. It's bad enough leaving the school now, I can't imagine adding that extra flow. I see a lot of wrecks there. High school kids zipping in to get a Coke and some M&Ms before 1st period and not looking as they turn onto Ballentine. Ugh.
  20. Only drawback is postop pain. You can't take ibuprofen after a surgery because it can promote bleeding and you even have to stop it 10 days before surgery. Our doctors are so scared of being sued or getting someone addicted to opiates that they won't rx narcotics unless they're having surgery, and even then it's a low dose with no refills. The only time they'll refill is if it's a particularly painful surgery, like tonsillectomy for adults/teenagers or the "sleep apnea" surgery (you do NOT want to go through that). Kids under 7 or 8 don't even get rx narcotics postop, which prompted one parent
  21. The Texas Roadhouse in Hiram is the best one around. Their steaks are always cooked perfectly and I won't order a steak from anywhere else, especially Longhorns. Their sides are made from scratch every day, as are their salad dressings and rolls. It's pretty good food and my husband's favorite place. The one in Douglasville is okay, but the Hiram one is great. Do the Call Ahead seating!
  22. Hadn't tried the new one yet, but the DQ in Hiram does the same thing to their burgers. It'll be jet black on the edges and cold in the middle. My teenager will actually cut the edges off to eat it because it's so burnt. I do like their snack options, like their chicken bacon barbecue wrap. It's not bad and lower-calorie than their chicken finger baskets!

    Sick?

Be thankful you have just a copay. Our plan is high-deductible only and I work for one of the largest healthcare providers in the state, with thousands of employees. My experience with Kaiser as a healthcare professional (there are a few non-Kaiser doctors that use them, including the specialist I used to work for since Kaiser didn't have that particular specialty), is they're a pain in the rear and disorganized. A lot of people do love them because everything is in one place, but you're stuck to just that one place. A lot of places don't take the ACA plans anymore. Stiff, ask your endocrino
  24. Under a certain age kids are not allowed to "head" the ball at all, and the ball weight/size is determined by age group. Some programs are trying to make soft helmets mandatory for soccer players. As far as popularity, think about this. New Hope has one football field, and Braly Soccer park, right next to it, has 21 fields, with one of those field being subdivided so the younger kids have smaller fields and more teams can play. My ex did not want my oldest (our son) to play soccer because it does have a risk of injury. Our goalie had to miss 3 weeks due to concussion protocol early in
  25. I've never been to a UTD game but I do love how much support they've gotten from Georgia, even before the season started. We saw their T-shirts and jerseys for sale at Academy Sports and all over the place. Both my sons play soccer, my oldest has played 3 seasons and will try out for the high school team this year, my youngest is on his first season. My oldest has been to a UTD game and had a blast. It's a nonstop game, two 45-minute halves and a 10 minute halftime, and the game's done when the clock runs out UNLESS the refs had to stop the game for injury or penalty. I still don't understand
