  1. I miss Paulding.com! This new format is confusing and people can't figure out how to use it. I almost couldn't find where to start a new topic. I liked the old "tree" structure where new posts appeared on a line with comments and replies on a line below it and replies to those directly below those. And you saw those as soon as you came to the site, none of this "Click here for new activity" stuff. Different forums were easily found. I'm not the only one having trouble by a long shot. Look at how many people have posted "How does this work?" and "Does this thing still work?" and how nobody else even tries to use it anymore. Admins, if you're reading these you need to do something. Find a different program, go back to the old one, or just take the site down! Just my 2-cents worth.

  2. Tonight, between the hours of 8 and 9pm, we were supposed to turn all of our lights out. I didn't just turn my lights out, but I turned off the main breaker to my whole house, however, I noticed that nothing in my neighborhood looked any different. Guess we really showed 'em, like Greystone Power, that we can't even do without them for ONE HOUR! Go ahead and charge us whatever you want, we'll pay it, just like we'll pay whatever the oil companies want for gasoline, because we can't be inconvenienced long enough to cut back our consumption for even a short time. Tonight would have been the perfect opportunity to show the energy companies that we have had enough, but... I guess it's just too much of a bother!

  3. I'm happy to report that some heavy equipment is operating in the trailer park right now and the trashed trailers are being demolished and loaded into huge roll-off dumpsters. Thanks to all of you who may have also called and complained; it seems that the right officials really got things going. A lot of my faith in this county has been restored.

  4. First of all, Thanks to all of you for jumping on this with me. I personally don't care what Mr. Lawrence owns or where his kids go to school or how rich he is, but I do care about getting this particular trash heap cleaned up. If owners have to eithe clean up or put a fence around junk car yards, what's the difference?

I got a call back from the Marshall's office (770-222-1160) yesterday and they told me that they had to have a specific address or lot number for a junk trailer, not just a complaint about the park in general, before they could respond. They can't just go in and look around the whole park. I told them all they have to do is ride down Hwy. 61 and look out their window, for Pete's sake, they can't miss some of the trailers. But, that was not enough either, they couldn't do that! So I gave them a description of one of the trailers ("First trailer on the right when entering the park on what may be Carroll Path") and she said that that might be enough ....they'll get back to me. She did however tell me that I could also contact Community Development (770-443-7601) who in turn told me to contact Steve Turner with the Permit and Inspections Office (770-443-7571). I'm still waiting for a call back from anyone. There's a reason I'm putting these numbers in here - hint, hint.

If you've not seen this place, or if you've only seen it from 61, then you have no idea how bad it is; it's even worse toward the South side of the park. There are a lot more trailers abandoned with all of the windows broken out, siding stripped off and trash and glass all around them. Should I take pictures and post them here. Can I post pictures? I don't know what all can be done on this site. Attending a Board meeting sounds like a good idea. Please keep us posted as to when the next one is. Thanks again.

  5. I hate to say it, but what a person does with his own property is no one else's business. If the owner lets the property get run down, the owner is losing money (not you and not me).

It's not the government's place to force you to maintain your own property. All you guys whoop and holler about the ever expanding powers of Government, but you want so sic the Marshal on the trashy Trailer folks. Hello, that's the same thing as giving the government even more authority. When is control by the government too much?

If you don't like the looks of the place, why don't you buy the property and bulldoze it?

Folks ought to really mind their own business.... There have always been undersirable neighborhoods and there always will be.

You've obviously never seen this place. How about riding by it and through it and then repost your opinion. We're not trying to sic anyone on the trailer folks, we're talking about the safety and health of the folks who do still live there. Not to mention the image that it presents of our county to passersby.

  6. Almost exactly one year ago I started a topic about the state of Lawrence Junction Mobile Home Park on Hwy. 61 South of Dallas. The place has continued to seriously deteoriate since then. There are numerous trailers that have been stripped of their siding leaving the frames with insulation hanging out still standing. What looks like over half of the trailers are abandoned with all of the windoows broken out and glass all over the place. I just called the County Marshall's office and filed a complaint about it and I would like for any others of you that live in the area to do the same. It's disgusting to just drive down Hwy. 61 and have to pass by this place, but my property is adjacent to it, so I have to look at it everyday from my front porch. The trash and litter that filters down or is thrown out by the few residents that still live in this place lines the road in front of my house. There are people walking the road at all times of the day and night going to and from this park, and I don't know, but I tend to suspect that it's drug related traffic. Cars squeel out from an exit they have created and tear off down my road, and I frequently have to listen to people screaming and yelling curses from inside the park. The police are often in the park, but apparently not often enough. Does anyone have any ideas about what we, as citizens of this county, can do to clean this place up? Thanks!

  7. Where is it?

I don't know what happened. It looked fine just after I listed it and now it's gone. The information seems to now be under "3 events" on the block for the 29th and it's completely gone for the 30th. Anybody know what may have happened - do I need to re-enter all of it?

  8. There are stop signs on the signposts for the trail and STOP is printed in huge letters on the concrete itself, but many cyclists just ignore it. It should be treated as a four-way stop for all parties and I think it should be enforced with tickets or warnings for a few days to get the message across to trail users.

  9. Oh my god! Oh my God! I just learned about a book that has been circulating around the county that has our names, phone numbers, and even our addresses! Some of the pages are white and some of them are yellow so they can can find you more easily. I'm not going to be able to sleep at night any more just knowing that someone is out there looking me up just to come do harm to me and my family!!!!! I never realized that I was so vulnerable or so important that they were after little 'ol me!

  10. I know you meant this as a joke, ..........

You are completely right, voting should be taken completely seriously but if you remember correctly we already voted on this issue just a short time ago, and we said an emphatic NO!! Was it taken seriously? Apparently not since they didn't like how it turned out, basicly threw away those results, and decided to do it again. And if it's NO again this time (which I hope) what then?

Edited in: If the vote is YES this time shouldn't we who voted no have the right to demand another vote in 6 months, then take the best 2 out of 3 - seems only fair to me.

  11. Someone who doesn't know you calls at 10:30 at night - a perfect stranger? This has to be a prank or an attempted scam. Or he's just a garden variety nut-case.

That's what I thought too at first, but the longer he talked, the more sincere he sounded. I don't have any friends (or enemies) capable of pulling off that kind of sincereity with a straight face, or rather straight voice.

  12. I just got a very interesting and apparently sincere phone call (10:30 pm Monday night) from a man who claimed that he had cut down a tree and that an image of a cross and Jesus and an Angel with a halo and lines of dripping blood had appeared on the stump, and that he had had a calling from the Lord that he should start a ministery at the now closed restaurant building on Hwy 92 between Macland Rd. and Hwy 120. He said that he was going through the phone book letting everybody know about this, and that he had pictures of the stump to sell to help him start his church. Let me first say that I am not trying to make fun of this man because he sounded really sincere in what he was saying. I'm just wondering if anybody else has received a call from him. We talked for about 10 or 15 minutes while he told me about visions that he had had about his calling to start this minestry. He kept telling me that I could see this picture at "Highcalling@comcast.net" on the web. When I told him that that was an email address and not a website he just said that his daughter had set it up and that was where it was. Later he said it was Highcallingministeries@comcast.net (he emphasized the capital "H"), but that's still not a website and not something that you can look up. I have the name and phone number from my caller ID but I don't think it would be appropriate to post it because he really sounded sincere in what he was saying. While I am not religious enough myself to belive that an image of Jesus on a tree stump is a miracle, I couldn't help but share this with y'all and see if anybody else had received a call from him and what you thought.

  13. I’ve got a little dilemma that I’d like to share and maybe get some of your opinions on. Back on December 13th of last year I mailed the forms and purchase proofs for a $250 rebate on a video camera I had purchased, and I insured the letter at the post office for that amount. Well guess what, after about 50 days it still had not arrived at its destination. The post office admits that it was never delivered and they must have lost it, so all they could do is file a claim, but, an employee told me, they probably would not pay for something like that since it didn’t actually have any real value. I feel like I have a legal contract (a numbered and printed receipt declaring a value of $250) with the USPS guaranteeing that they would deliver this parcel. I filed the claim and used a copy of the rebate form as proof of its value, so now I wait and see. The rebate company, after explaining what happened, has had me fax them copies of the submittal saying that I may still be able to get the rebate, but the customer service rep was not sure since the original UPC from the box is missing. Here’s my question; Who should pay me the $250? The US postal service, the rebate company, or both. Every one of my friends that I’ve told about this says that the post office should pay me regardless of whether I still get the rebate or not, and of course I want to agree with that. What’s your opinion? (And can you sue the USPS in small claims court?) Thanks.
