  1. Ok, I have a funny on this one...I wanted one too, my mom always said no. I turned 18 and got it done on my own. My mom's response was classic. She's in DAR and two weeks after I did it, she took me to the meeting and we stayed for lunch after. I had to sit there with 60 of the sweetest "old" ladies as they lined up and asked me what the %^% I was thinking, make jokes about hooking a dog leash up to my nose ring, some took pictures so they could "have a chat with their granddaughters". It wasn't emotionally scarring, it was actually pretty funny and it worked. About halfway through lunch
  2. Pastor Swope and I have worked together in the past, long before he was tapped for Paranormal State and other upcoming projects. I've been reading his stories (link below) since there were only 50 of us visiting his site. Now, there are thousands. Daily. I encourage you to check him out if you're looking for a good ghost story. *Disclaimer: the above mentioned "work" should be noted as more of a research capacity and not in the paranormal sense. I am not affiliated with his denomination, I just like spooky stories with a theological spin. I thought some of you might to. htt
  3. SOO exciting! I love FOO, my second favorite band after U2 (which was my first concert age 11) Have a blast! I hope Lil Vader enjoys it!
  4. It's that time of year again! So for my entry, I thought I'd share a ghost story. I'd like to win, but if I don't I'll at least set the mood for October! In 2001, my husband and I bought a tiny "starter" home in Montgomery, Alabama. Our back yard was heavily wooded and I found out six months after moving in, backed up to the famous downtown cemetary. (where Hank Sr. is buried) We couldn't see it through the overgrowth, and our yard was on the back edge of the property, so I didn't realize that was what was back there. Anyway....we closed on the house at the end of April and hubb
  5. Funny this is your test topic, bored. I was just thinking this morning about how it's fall and what I was supposed to get that picture as soon as the greenery dies down....
  6. Sorry, I didn't know you saw me....
  7. That rash is actually scarlet fever and when strep is left unchecked, that's what happens. It happened to me for the first time a few years ago, I was just dealing with a nasty sore throat, no one else was sick. Then, I passed out in a very busy store during holiday shopping and ended up in the ER. About ten days later, I was covered from scalp to toes in a rash. I went back to the ER thinking it was a reaction to the shots. Nope, that would have killed me by the time I went back. At the rash phase, it's not contagious, just embarrassing and extremely uncomfortable. DON'T SCRATCH, y
  8. My nephew is in the Navy, straight out of high school (just 6 weeks in) and you're absolutely right about the strictness. Good luck to your son and tell him THANKS from the rest of us. I seriously hope Hiram courts don't make a minor face the judge without parents or legal representation. That smells very much like a loss of specific civil rights....makes me very uneasy if it is true. I agree about the "speed traps", though I haven't driven that fast off the interstate in a while (must be the mom in me)
  9. Wisdom, perfect word for the original post.
  10.   She bought it from a charity event for autisim awareness (through her work). It was so funny imagining my little ole mom calling out "Lick me all over!" as she ordered the candle.
  11. LOL My hubby went to my mom's to do some "man" work and he called to tell me that she had the most awesome smelling candle--he could smell it through the room even with the top on it. He was dying laughing, which I didn't get the joke...until he told me the name: "Lick me all over". Your post reminded me of that conversation.
  12. Share it with me later...lol. I know we've talked about this recently, haven't we? When my old man was making me build fires with my bare hands.
  13. Word for word what I was going to say.
  14. I'm just learning how to garden. I have never hunted before. We do have firewood stockpiled and have a decent stash of batteries, water, canned food, etc. I can build a fire without a lighter or matches. But sustain my entire family? I just don't think so. Though hubby has had me reading up on survival, just in case. I too hope it's never needed.
  15. A recent topic of discussion in my house....the honest answer is no.
  16. I don't think you should feel guilty, I meant my original statement as more of a *GASP! then an actual question. For the longest time, I did without internet and didn't have more then local channels for the last five years (since it became so high). Recently, things have been better for us so we're online and have talked about adding cable. To get the channels/shows I want, I'd have to have the digital family package and I simply can't find a monthly rate that I know I can handle if something happens with the main source of income. I love my secret, cheap tv and I get excited about s
  17. O!M!G! $210 a month? $107 a month? And these are ACCEPTABLE CHARGES to you? I know, everyone likes their way, everyone has their quirks but OMG. That's so much money!!! $210 a month is my CAR PAYMENT. $107 is my insurance!! WOAH. Thank God I discovered the tricks I've found. No cable or phone companies are raping my wallet!!! Here's MY bill: Internet through Comcast: $37.40 a month. TV through PlayOn.Tv: $4.99 a month. (yes, that's FIVE DOLLARS A MONTH). Network programming: Free with antenna. And Netflicks for the kiddos--internet only version: $7.99 a month. Do
  18. Yes, thank you for your posts!
  19. HEY HEY, no negatives on my "nice thread". I did what I could, but someone go give DGITW a plus and fix it. That was rude. I don't care if it's an inside joke or not, I like the pictures, they're still sweet. But all the awesome news, especially with jobs, that makes me feel so hopeful! Such an incredible update from Melsnid! Amazing how quickly he's healing! Prayers for continued success! Lovapet, all my hummingbirds have apparently gone to your house! Congrats to Tabby on your good fortune with your job! Congrats to working mom on the first toothfairy visi
  20. I'm going to have to go find my pumpkin spice candles and get my smells going.....
  21. The only crafty thing I've ever been good at: carving pumpkins. (? lol) I love this time of year!! I also love my neighbors' Japanese Maples as they turn bright red and orange.
  22. Melnsid takes the prize for putting the biggest smile on my face....so far. I'm glad everyone has great things to share. Have a wonderful day!
  23. Let me know if it's worth pulling up on hulu...and if it's something to watch without kids. I was wondering if it would be any good.
