  1. PLEASE HELP!!! We are looking for families to consider hosting an international exchange student for a few weeks while the student finds a permanent placement. There are several students who are scheduled to arrive in the US next week, and without a home to go to, they will not be able to fulfill their dreams of coming to the US for an exchange year. Being a welcome family for a few weeks is an ideal way to see what hosting an exchange student is all about. All you need to host is a bed for the student and a willing to open up your home and your hearts. Anyone can be a host, single or mar
  2. We have had an amazing time this year hosting our first exchange student. Now is the ideal time to commit to hosting a student for the fall. I understand that the Paulding County high schools have agreed to hold several slots in each school for YFU exchange students, but it's only for a limited time, so please consider opening your home to an exchange student. It's an experience you will never forget! Just let me know if you would like more information and I can put you in touch with our local area representatives. You can get more information at http://www.yfu-usa.org/
  3. Yes, parents should have plans for inclement weather, but a lot of parents plan for their kids to ride the bus home and either stay home until the parents get there or stay with a neighbor. How is it a parent's fault if the kids are stuck on a bus somewhere or the bus never gets to the school to pick them up? The problem was an inaccurate weather forecast and probably waiting just a little bit too long to decide to send kids home. No one expected so much snow and no one expected the roads to get so bad so quickly. Personally I am so thankful to those bus drivers that spent hours trying t
  4. I just got a call from Abney that they have stopped sending buses out.
  5. Just spoke to Abney ES and they have a lot of kids still waiting on buses.
  6. We tried this for the first time last year and it was fantastic!
  7. The verdict doesn't make sense. Admittedly, I don't know all the details of this case, but as I understand, this guy was boating under the influence and collided with another boat. As a result of that collision, two boys were killed. How is that not a homicide? If this was Driving Under the Influence, and he crashed into another car, it would certainly be a homicide. I'm not sure I see the difference here. How devastating for the family of those boys.
  8. It is not uncommon for criminal punishment, including traffic fines, to be in part determined by a person's history. The solicitor might be willing to reduce the fine - it certainly can't hurt to ask.
  9. I'm not watching news, but I saw something online about shots fired. Nothing more posted yet.
  10. I would appreciate any referrals for a water damage restoration company. Thanks!
  11. Dr. Waldman, Acworth Pulmonary. His office is fantastic and very personalized care.
  12. I've tried a lot of different things, but one thing that I HATE is raw tomatoes. I will eat them in just about any preparation, but not raw! Also hate octopus. When I was in Japan, I had a horrible pancake with octopus tentacles in it, and it was so awful that I just can't eat octopus again! Need more iron, so I'm curious to find a good source for liver and some good preparations for it.
  13. I agree. Let them do the investigation and find out what happened. I imagine the officer is devastated about losing his partner. K9 officers don't just lock dogs in hot cars for no reason. A mechanical failure is much more likely. It's a tragedy, but let's get the facts before we crucify this dedicated officer.
  14. Red Hen Fabrics in Marietta can probably hook you up with several people who do either machine or hand quilting.
  15. Exactly what I was thinking as I read about this. There are two groups of people that we as a society mistrust more than most - criminals and teenagers. Combine those two together, and I think the reliability of the survey goes out the window. I don't doubt that this happens to some kids in some facilities, I just have a really hard time believing it's quite as widespread as the statistics suggest.
  16. Lenovo has excellent, US based, customer service. I've always had great customer service from them. Call and I'm sure they can help.
  17. Teds is nice because they have high dividers between their booths, so it creates more privacy
  18. You may be able to pursue a claim for lost wages, but you better be able to give specific information to prove the damages.
  19. I may be able to assist, depending on the type of case. If you'd like, please call the office and we can get a little more detail and see if it is an area of law we can help you with.
  20. I know a lot of people have asked about discounts for the Georgia Aquarium. The aquarium has posted some special pricing for the summer.... Georgia Aquarium Imagination Nights
  21. WOW! What an incredible video. She overcame so much in her life and has become an inspiration to so many.
  22. Leasing can be a great option if you need a new car and can't afford the higher payment to purchase a new car. You usually get the best deals with cars that hold their value well, like a Toyota Camry. Be sure to see how many miles are allowed on the lease. You will be charged for extra mileage if you turn the vehicle in at the end of the lease, but it shouldn't matter if you trade the vehicle in at or near the end of your lease. The biggest issue with leasing right now if the new tax that started this year. As I understand it, those leasing are essentially paying double the taxes, becau
  23. Most public defenders do an excellent job. And they often have more experience than private attorneys, because they are constantly in court.
  24. The qualifications are set at the state level. As I understand, they look at a combination of household income and assets. I don't think they go into depth with bills and other expenses. It seems that most people with jobs don't qualify, because the cutoff is pretty low and because they look at the household, not just the individual. If they don't qualify, there are a lot of attorneys who are willing to work out payments plans, like I do.
