  1. Someone kills people with a knife, someone kills people with a car, someone kill people with a bomb, someone kills people with a plane, it's the killer's fault.

Why is it the fault of an inanimate object when someone kills people with a gun? Seriously, why?

  2. Democrats seem to be very afraid of Trump, even while they claim that Trump can't win. Hillary will probably pick Booker after seeing quite a few black people supporting Trump. She'll probably promise more 'free' stuff. If she could find a Hispanic/black/gay/transgender she'd pick them, as there are quite a few Hispanics and gays (yes, after Orlando) with Trump. Most urban cities are run by Democrats and the people are still in the same sinking boat that they've always been in with the same Democrats promising the same thing each election cycle. IMO, Trump will win because there's no one better off now than politicians especially Hillary.

  3. From Bernie Sanders,

Today, because of the Supreme Court's decision to protect the modest gains made under the Affordable Care Act, it is a good day for millions of Americans who will be able to keep their access to health care.

It's also a good day for the small business owners who, before the passage of the Affordable Care Act, couldn't afford the escalating cost of providing insurance for their employees.

But while I am glad the Supreme Court upheld the law, in my view, the only long-term solution to America's health care crisis is a Medicare-for-all single-payer system.

I start my approach to health care from two very simple premises:

    1. Health care must be recognized as a right, not a privilege -- every man, woman and child in our country should be able to access quality care regardless of their income.

    2. We must create a national system to provide care for every single American in the most cost-effective way possible.

Tragically, the United States fails in both areas.

The health insurance lobbyists and big pharmaceutical companies make "national health care" sound scary. It's not.

In fact, a large single-payer system already exists in the United States. It's called Medicare and the people enrolled give it high marks. More importantly, it has succeeded in providing near-universal coverage to Americans over age 65 in a very cost-effective manner.

It's time to expand that program to all Americans.

If we are serious about providing high-quality, affordable care as a right for all Americans, the only solution to this crisis is a Medicare-for-all single-payer system. Add your name to our petition if you agree.

The American people understand that our current health care system is not working.

They understand that the profiteering of the pharmaceutical industry and private insurance companies causes the United States to spend more per capita on health care than any other nation, while our life expectancy, infant mortality and preventable deaths outcomes are worse than most other countries.

We should be spending our money on care and disease prevention, not paper-pushing and debt collection. But the simple truth is that our efforts to eliminate waste and profiteering are endangered by these powerful corporate interests.

A single-payer system will expand employment and lift a major financial weight off of businesses burdened by employee health expenses. And the millions of Americans stuck in jobs they don't like, they would be free to explore more productive opportunities as they desire.

I attempted to offer a single-payer amendment during the Affordable Care Act debate, but my efforts were blocked.

    But our time will come.

Add your name to mine if you agree it's time for America to adopt a Medicare-for-all single-payer health care system.

I am convinced today more than ever before that universal quality health care as a right will eventually become the law of the land. It is the only way forward.

Thank you for adding your name to mine,

    Bernie Sanders

How'd that work out for Vermont?

Subsidy is another word for taking someone else's money.

First, ythink, I started the topic

Second, a lot of people say stupid things all the time. I'm 99 percent sure that if the circumstances of the shooting were better known and understood, the girl would not only regret her comments but retract them.

The dynamic that is in play in this is that there are bad people out there. The perps in this case were armed. Had the police prevailed, they would have obviously been justified. How the shooting went down ... well there may be a car video that will tell us more. What we know is that the perps got the drop on them and fired first.

The worse thing about this incident is that it makes a million more police triggers itchy. The police will see this as threat that the next person they stop may be packing heat ... as I'm sure has become more and more prevalent with the proliferation of open carry and stand your ground laws.

These laws make the suggestion that it is not only 'okay' but it is good that civilians should be armed as they go about their every day activities.

Tthat is the crux and I feel at the root of the shootings of unarmed individuals.

The bottom line is that when the police operate under the assumption that everyone is armed and dangerous, they shoot first and ask questions later.

I don't believe in carry laws because it popularizes that everyone is carrying. This leaves it to the imagination of the police how many of those whom they stop want to shoot and kill anyone who gets in their way. If they assume 'everyone' ... no civilian, armed or unarmed, can be safe.

These laws would be more honest if they had titles like "The scratching your nose is a reason to be shot and killed by police act."

It has to be sobering for all of us in Georgia to grasp that our chances of dying from a gun shot is higher than an automobile accident. (See the story in yesterdays AJC)

    attachicon.gifgundeathsexceedtrafficdeaths.JPG

It is no coincidence that the proliferation of open carry laws coincide with the increasing police state violence and increase in the total number of gun-related deaths in our state.

Oh, and for the record, yathink ... I have a lot fewer questions when the police shoot armed persons; my problem is when their victims are the unarmed and their targets are the unarmed people's backs.

In regard outrage ... I think we do need to know a bit more. For instance, I would assume both officers were wearing vests. Was the ammo used by the perps metal-jacketed rounds that penetrated the vests ... that the NRA is so insistent that this kind of ammunition remains on the market and easily available is something I could be outraged about in this instance.

No way on the itchy fingers. This will make the police even more hesitate to do their jobs with all the over the top outrage coming from the left. I think the last 2 killings of officers were a direct result of being afraid of losing their jobs or worse, and hesitating to defend themselves. On your last comment, one cop was shot in the face and since we wouldn't want the bad police to wear riot gear...he died. Fact of the matter, we and cops are both much more likely to be killed by black men than by police. But, that's a taboo subject and mustn't be discussed for fear of offending someone with the truth. And, yes of course all of this is the NRA's fault. That's what the elites say as they're being protected by armed security. Just look at who surrounds Sharpton.

I suppose you could make the argument that race 'has nothing to do with it', NJ ... That argument would go like this ... The GOP has been just as disrespectful of every Democratic candidate for office and President since ... well Jimmy Carter ... or maybe Kennedy (you know the ultimate sign of disrespect is a bullet to the brain).

I think it is probably due to some academic work regarding linguistics and how to destroy democratic systems so that the oligarchs can present the appearance of democracy. While the argument is more tenuous going back to Kennedy; it becomes probable beginning with Nixon and his dirty tricks unit which destroyed Democratic candidates like Muskie (The Canuck letter forgery) or even Nixon's interference in the Paris Peace Talks in 1968 which derailed a likely settlement to the Vietnam War to keep us at war. (Fear that audio tapes held by Lyndon Johnson were in the Democratic HQ at the Watergate is the presumed real reason for the senseless bugging and burglary at the Watergate.)

Being disrespectful and throwing around libelist comments are two totally different things. And, I guess you feel like the dems have always been respectful to republicans. Did a republican shoot Kennedy, or did a democrat shoot Reagan? We've had crappy democrats and crappy republicans forever, that will never change. Your excuses for calling EVERY conservative on this forum a racist is pathetic. You don't seem to comprehend that conservatives do not vote for liberals, and vice-versa. Doesn't matter what damn color someone's skin happens to be. Doing so just shows ignorance. We're not afraid of names, that bs doesn't work anymore. Anyone running for POTUS or for any government office needs a thick skin, regardless of color.

  6.

Newsjunky, that is my reaction that creationism and the 'truth' of a 6000 year old earth must be taught as a theory of equal standing in Georgia schools with evolution, which appears to be state policy as passed by the GOP legislature.

Fact is the opposition to common core comes from the same source as the flip-flop the GOP has made on countless other issues from forced purchase of health insurance to keynesian economics - i.e. the black president is for it which means you must oppose it.

I'm so sick of you and others always bringing race into everything. I'll hazard a guess that you didn't vote for Romney. Because of his skin color or was it because you didn't agree with his policies? Do you hate white men? You are intolerant of others that don't agree with you. Most of the conservatives try at least to debate the actual topic without throwing in name calling.
