  1. I was just reading the blog by Jim Galloway who moderated the Senate debate last night for District 31.

Someone has filed a complaint against Bill Carruth now - relating to his residency not being the same place that he holds homestead exemption. It's pretty common knowledge that he changed his Voter registration this year to the home purchased within Senate District 31's new lines (which is near his mom's home).

Anyway - if you know enough to know that he bought a new house (which happened to be months before qualification) you should think this move would be challenged.

The other issue brought up is that the citizen complaint says Mr. Carruth owes the FDIC over $2 million dollars for a loan. I can't prove or disprove this, but the article mentions it. See below.

    http://blogs.ajc.com/political-insider-jim-galloway/2012/06/06/can-a-candidate-be-barred-because-of-his-debts/

  2. There are certain Facts to consider in this thread that it appears that certain posters are okay with.

1 a law suit was filed almost five years ago and has yet to be heard in a court of law.

2 Paulding County Board of Commissioners have spent a reported $1,300,000 and the original case has still not been heard, and to my knowledge has not been scheduled to be heard?

3 A hearing was scheduled this past Wednesday to determine not if the County owed Surepip money But rather how much they owed him for a violation of a State law (anti slap)

4 Some post in this thread plainly show that our tax dollars are being spent in a manner that I do not agree with (see post # 52)

5 Some post allege that campaign contributions are being given to candidates to maintain the status quo within the Board of Commissioners.

All of the above items can easily be verified through the State of Georgia web site or through the various County offices. Some of which I have verified.

I am of the opinion that all citizens of Paulding County who seek redress from the County should have their case heard in a timely manner.

I am appalled at the money spent by the County to litigate this case and to my knowledge the original case has not even scheduled to be heard yet?

The time has come to resolve these cases without any further undue delay.

    Good summary!

  3. Where is there a mishandling of funds? If you are talking about the campaign contributions and the law firm contributing to several candidate's campaigns, I hate to bust your bubble but those campaign contributions that are mentioned in this thread are perfectly legal and ethical.

I'm not saying there are mishandling of funds. A lot of the thread seems to insinuate there may be.

My point was that I doubt the local Republican Party has anything to do with the issues that have been mentioned about contributions made to candidates. They don't force candidates to run Republican (most folks in this county are conservative, so candidates choose to run Republican).

Also - the other point - if there are folks here that feel there is an issue with funding, payouts, contributios, etc then they should try to get it investigated. Comments shouldn't be made that throw citizens that have an interest in politics and conservative values (ie the local party) under the bus.

  4. Yes, because the people to whom Surepip said the money was flowing was REPUBLICAN. Does that not compute with you?

I think until Will Avery came along, most politicians in Paulding County have chosen to register as Republican. It doesn't necessarily mean that any of the monies was funneled through the local party. I'm pretty sure those Political Action Committees and lobbyists donated to these candidates on their own - without getting approval of the local party first.

I'm thinking we've virtually hijacked the post, and maybe the issue here is that truly folks should contact some of the investigative reporters if they want to see if SP's issue and any mishandling of funds could be exposed.

  5. Has anyone tried or heard of alternative locations to see at least part of the Blue Angels/Canadian Snow Birds that are performing at the air show?

I have some that would not last to fight the crowd at Dobbins.

A couple of years ago I tried the top of Kennesaw Mountain, but you realy can't see that much that far north.

  6. Wonder how the election on July 20 would have turned out if this happened earlier and it was Gregory and Pownall. That would have been fun.

We can thank the local garden club (GOP Party) for that. For putting another ethics issue candidate or ethics problem associated candidate in there. Becoming a bad habit.

Have they picked a winning candiate yet in the last 6 years...............Let's see: Ralph Reed...nope, JK rogers.....nope, Beverly Cochran.....nope, Ronney sibley.....nope, Glenn Richardson.....nope, Jerry shearin.........nope, and so on and so on. Is it just me or has most of them had ethics issues too. Looks like they need to find other people to take thier advice from or attach to. Seems they have lost touch with real America.

Maybe one day the local GOP will learn to get the G family and thier crew out of the party and then maybe they will have a winning/viable candidate and they will not drag other people down with them. This tarnished reputation will follow them for some time till they are gone.

Just my thougts from an outsider that used to be involved years ago.

    David's pick would have won.

Still not sure why folks say the GOP's candidates.

The party does not endorse a candidate in the primary. Officers don't endorse candidates in a primary. Individuals DO help candidates in a primary however.

Really folks??? This is not about politics. Get over it - your guy won.

This is about a tough situation for a family to be in. Wouldn't want to wish it on your own family would you?

WHERE IS COMMON DECENCY AMONG THIS CROWD? (although most folks in this topic have been gracious and kind).

And ANIMAL- throw the first stone. You are a despicable excuse for a human. No wonder you're called Animal.

  7. Where will they be posted? I would also like to know what happens at the BOC meeting today.

Maybe we should ask for live stream at the BOC Meetings. Wouldn't that be awesome?

I know the results will be posted at the Watson complex as soon as the precint results are in. Pubby will probably have a staffer there to monitor results and post on here as well. He did last time.

  8. Talk about paranoid schizophrenia........

When there are individuals like Tommie Graham and Todd Pownall on a BOC, Mr. Austin is not going to "control" them. These guys are all very well spoken and not afraid to ruffle feathers. Unlike the spineless commissioners Jerry was able to influence, these guys are not "yes" men.

But then again you know this, you are just slinging sh*t hoping some of it sticks.

    And you're not?

  9. When I moved to this county a few years ago it became apparent to me that the leaders of this county were very short sighted in providing jobs and resources needed to entice companies to locate here.

Over the past several months I have listened to and talked with all of the candidates running for the county commission post, And have come to the conclusion that only a couple of the candidates really know, And, Have a plan to get this county out of the mess that we are in. I have lurked here on Paulding.com and read and listened to all of the rhetoric spewed out by the various candidates and surrogates of each campaign. And only two of those candidates have talked about the real issues of this County, Which is Jobs.

Only two candidates have talked about ways and means to bring those jobs to Paulding County, for that reason I will be supporting and voting for David Barnett for commissioner in post # 4 where I live.

I have also contributed to the Todd Pownall campaign since he is the other candidate that really understands the issues facing our County, and, have a plan to provide the needed jobs.

So, give us details. What are the plans to provide the needed jobs?

I along with most citizens in the county commute to Cobb/Fulton/Atlanta to work.

The tax digest is shot, and won't improve unless sales taxes or property taxes provide an influx of revenue for the County.

What exactly under these circumstances can ANY candidate really do to provide jobs?

Unless of course those Real Estate related jobs are the only ones that the commission cares about - like in the good ol days.

  10. Ok, based on what is happening in Washington and what has happened in the past in Paulding County we do not need a commission full of "buddies". We need to keep balance by voting for folks that will not go with the flow. That's what happened with the past commissioners. We need checks and balances. I don't think we need Pownall and Barnett along with Austin. I believe both candidates running in my post are capable and since I can only vote in one post, I will be voting against the "group".

You hit the nail on the head NG! And you're so right. Did you guys and gals see the local paper?

Not only did Big Money make a splash with 2 full page ads for Pownall (and there have also been in earlier papers), a full page ad for Barnett, BUT - and here's the kicker - the Mr. Austin put out an ad SUPPORTING Pownall.

Didn't someone a while back suggest that these two candidates were the chairman's picks? And then I guess you lose those checks and balances that NG is mentioning above.

Did anyone get a chance to read that article the young girl wrote about Cochran? Someone posted a link about it last yesterday.

WHEW! Glad I don't have to figure these two races out. I did make up my mind for Gov and DA and cast those votes though.

  11. A little off topic.. but it's funny that Todd corrected David in the P'Com Round table video regarding the times to vote early this week.

By the way folks, David was right. Tuesday and Thursday is open until 7pm, not 5pm like Todd said.

Good thing, as I voted at around 6:30 on Tuesday so I hope my vote counted!!!!

  12. If I'm wrong, I apologize. I know 2 of the post candidates were missing at S&S. I thought one was David Barnett. If he was there, then I guess he was just forgettable. pardon.gif

The P'Com crew was there - they can confirm who missed it. I thought S&S missing candidates were Barnett and Crowe. Funny - they are the ones left standing.

  13. You really have no Idea do you?I have been a member since the summer of 2004. Now at that time Virgina Gallaway was the chairman, she had her henchmen too Like Nancy, who jumped and did all sorts of cute little tricks. Then at one time her husband Mr. yes man Daryl Gallaway husband who did everything virgina wanted him to say and do. Now follow the trail, here comes Beverly in February at our meeting. Then the dew crew welcomed her in like they were the thing. She never attended a meeting or ever involved in anything other than being the yes girl for Jerry. Since then they embraced her and worked on her campagn at the GOP head quarters. This was done by stuffing those lunch bage with endless spin.

So there is two groups at the GOP,Virgina works for a group as a lobbist called Americans for prosperity. So please get a grip.blink.gif

Do the other candidates running for office attend meetings, or have they ever?

I don't see anything wrong with someone going to a group of politically minded folks for advice or support. But not sure why it matters if someone attended prior to February or not. Don't most politicians show up to events to get their name out - and then go their own way after an election?

  14. You started the negative campaign today with the salary post I just responded,

Anyone can post maybe you can post something postive about a candidate?

It is really easy for me to post something postive for Barnett and Pownall

I didn't take my subjective question as negative campaigning. Sorry if it came across that way. I just received that opinion from my friend that can vote in Post 4 and then asked the folks on here if they agree with his viewpoint or not.

I have read a few of these threads and it appears 3-4 folks are supporting the same candidates and speak highly of them. I was just curious if anyone else was concerned about that. I didn't say that those guys giving up their salary was good or bad.

Negative campaigning to me is "I hear a rumor" or "I know for a fact"(when no proof is provided).

Sharing a person's opinion, calling it out as an opinion, and asking others what they think is what I did. Isn't that the purpose of this site? To share ideas?

  15. You can always post some of the good things you know about your candidate, Is he good at erecting signs, Is he good at debating the issues, will he be willing to debate the issues,Has he ever been employed by the tax payers ETC. heck post something good about your candidate biggrin.gif

I'm more of a "Does everyone get a fair shot" kind of person. Don't really have a candidate in this.

I just notice as I'm sure other members do too that it seems all the Positive hype is about the same two candidates, and was wondering why it seems to be more negative or non-existent towards the others.

Maybe someone will step up for Crowe and Cochran???? Keep it fair, so to speak.

  16. Sounds like your friend is a crook.

    Jerry? blink.gif

    I assume you mean Shearin?

No. Not sure where he lives. Is he in Post 4? Don't really know him other than seeing him on the public channel before.

If you asked the general population "what do you think of a candidate running for local office who is willing to forego their salary?" - I bet many folks would think the candidate has something up their sleeve.

So NO my friend is not a crook. He's just seen a few too many CROOKED politicians.

BTW, Does anyone on this board have anything GOOD to say about the other two candidates? I see only comments about Pownall and Barnett.

  17. If I recall Mr. Pownall and Mr. Barnett are giving back there first two years of pay . Looks like they both have the couty involement that we need ?? THEY NEED TO DO THE ROUNDTABLE ALL 4 OF THEM

I will be backing Mr. Barnett in Post 4.

I have a friend who lives in Post 4. I told him about the announcement made by these two candidates to give back their salary, and asked his opinion. I wonder who else would agree with this view:

"If they aren't getting paid by the county then they will be sure they get their pay through the back door and in other ways. I'm not sure I'd trust someone offering to work for free."

I'm out of this one - but does anyone else think that this is fishy and that the 2 candidates that get the most praise on this site are the two that are offering to forego their salary?

  18. Surepip,

Not sure your following the GOP like you say.

    Your quote:

The Old Guard in the Paulding GOP have stepped away from their elected roles within the party; and are actively campaigning for Jerry's Girls. Those who want to can argue that all you want, but it is very evident to anyone with their eyes open that there are 2 factions within the Paulding GOP. Jerry's Group and those wanting the RBMDs to hit the trail. I believe Austin and Graham both fall into the latter category.

From speaking to a few of those folks at the GOP......

Individuals that attend party meetings select the candidates they want to support just as you and I do. Precint "chairs" can support any candidate they want to support - and do so openly. They can campaign too if they'd like, just like you or I can.

"Officers" do not support candidates openly - and do not campaign for candidates until after the primary is over. Then of course the GOP would support the Republican candidate and "Officers" can then assist in campaigns if they so desire.

There's not two factions there, as I understand from speaking to a few of them. I know someone did decide they really wanted to work on a campaign, and decided to step down from an officer's position to do that.

There is no "Jerry's Group" in the Republican Party. I think your issues with the Old BOC should not be confused with the GOP or who there chooses to work on campaigns this election cycle.

The group is a bunch of Republican-minded citizens that rally behind one candidate when the primary is over. I've talked to several of them - no "pressure" there to support one particular candidate either.

  19. The DA Candidates are the guest speakers at this Saturday's Paulding Republican meeting.

The meeting starts a 9am, with refreshments served, so come early if you'd like and chat with the candidates.

The meeting is held at the GOP headquarters on Seaboard Drive just off 278.

Thanks for posting this. Will this be recorded? How long is the meeting?

Is anyone else undecided still in this race (besides me)?

  20. And how may I ask do you know this? I have heard that Kirby was supporting Anavitarte but have seen nothing on either of them

It was in the paper, but hey - we can't believe what we read right?

Feelip - Not trying to control anyone - just asking that everyone stop guilt by association tactics, name calling, and play nice.

ASKING - not controlling. Maybe you and Whitey should get on out of here and stop throwing punches. Seriously - telling someone to leave.

Maybe you should try playing nice.

  21. Tell ya what. You go vote for Jerry's kids. We are going to try to make this a better place to live and keep Jerry's politics out of power in Paulding.

Now run along and get your Bobcat work done. wink wink laugh.gif

As soon as I get my bonus I will. wink wink doens't fool me. You really shouldn't continue to antagonize folks.

Again, I HAVE NOT DECIDED who to vote for. What is up with you guys - cant you read?

You go ahead and vote for the ones picked by the current admin. Powell backed Pownall.

  22. Oh yes - allow me to respond to this quote from Whitey..... then I have to run:

"And then you come in Mysteriously on May 10, 2010 Join P.com And begin to post on the political races,"

I came on here to get some information about getting some clearing down on my property.

I have that information still handy - and as soon as I get confirmation of my bonus next month still plan on getting that work done.

A friend told me what a GREAT site this was for information.

And with the election posts on here over and over, I am trying to learn more about the candidates - but just see the same old people saying nasty things with a few average responses and comments in between.

I find it sad that we have stooped to garbage politics.

I have posted some questions/thoughts that I have heard from folks that have lived here all their life - and asked for feedback from others. I thought that was the point - to put stuff out there, ask for feedback, and everyone learn?

But I disagree with folks touting their "feelings" as facts and just stirring the mud more.
