  1. So why not let it expire and draft a new one that addresses real current economic needs ??? Why vote for the wants of five years ago instead of the very different needs of today ???
  2. I am not against paying taxes for government services. I am against watching my tax money wasted on fancy wants while watching urgent basic public safety needs neglected. I am complaining about a lack of austerity and some seriously misplaced priorities... Turn off that fountain and then we'll talk...
  3. Paulding county is responsible for the right of way maintenance. When I see the county taking care of basic safety issues instead of spending our taxes on purdy fountains and recreational sports, then I will vote yes...
  4. We have SPLOST right now and the county cannot even manage the simple public safety issue of mowing the right of way on north highway 61... Sure they are building a nice big fancy park just down the road, while we risk our lives daily just trying to make a left turn. When the county gets priorities straight and stops wasting our hard earned money on pretty wants versus true needs, then I will vote yes.
  5. Y'all are gonna need those extra pennies cause a hard rain is gonna fall and most folks are not prepared for the coming storm. Our economy is in dire straits and there are some hefty tax increases coming down the pike. I am voting in the interest of my family budget :
  6. First of all, there is nothing "misleading" about saying you support a "tax rate cut" and then proposing a $500K "tax rate cut" after reviewing the proposed budget. Unlike most critics in this thread, I have lived in post #4 for 15 years. Yes, I am supporting Jason Anavitarte for Commissioner. I believe he has the education, background, and experience, to be an asset to our county and a voice for the taxpayers. Most important... he listens. Having said that... all of this grasping at straws nonsense is ridiculous. It is perfectly fine by mine if you support or prefer a
  7. Guess where they will get the funds to operate and maintain that liquid monument to wasteful government spending ????
  8. Unlike the government, my pocket does not eat up 30% of the money in operational costs.
  9. When is Pubby going to publish photos of that fancy new fountain ???
  10. I would add a promise not to raise the millage rate because supporters are using that to sell the SPLOST. And a free unicorn with every vote...
  11. You are still operating under the assumption that renewal of one extra penny in sales tax is the only path to generate more revenue for those vital needs.... I am saying that more disposable income in the hands of local consumers can create the same or greater revenue by creating thousands more transactions...
  12. Which one creates more jobs AND thus even more sales tax revenue : $100 in the hands of a consumer. or $100 in the hands of the government.
  13. I wonder how much the taxpayers will have to cough up next year to pay for the electricity and upkeep on that big brand new beautiful bellagio fountain on main ???
  14. Where do you think that state and federal money comes from ???
  15. 2011 Economic Outlook : On or about Jan. 1, 2011, federal, state and local tax rates are scheduled to rise quite sharply. President George W. Bush's tax cuts expire on that date, meaning that the highest federal personal income tax rate will go 39.6% from 35%, the highest federal dividend tax rate pops up to 39.6% from 15%, the capital gains tax rate to 20% from 15%, and the estate tax rate to 55% from zero. Payroll taxes are already scheduled to rise in 2013 and the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) will be digging deeper and deeper into middle-income taxpayers. And there's always the cel
  16. Yes, because you missed the point by a mile. Voting NO on this one cent tax will save me approx. $100 per year. One hundred extra dollars in my pocket that I can now spend at local businesses or on local services in my community... Local spending creates jobs, jobs generate paychecks, paychecks are spent thus creating more local tax revenue. That which is seen : the revenue collected from that one little cent. That which is not seen : the revenue lost from additional economic activity.
  17. In other words you support tax and budget cuts, AND you oppose slightly deeper tax and budget cuts ???
  18. I have a few questions for proponents of this tax : 1. What are the sales tax rates (or average rate) in surrounding counties within a 1-2 hour drive ? 2. Does anyone have a year to year line item report of the revenues collected and detailed expenditures ? 3. What is the cost per household per year in county sales taxes ?
