  1. Okay, lets say a person has a job. This person only does his job correctly ONE DAY OUT OF FOUR YEARS. This person would be call a slacker and fired from this job. But a racecar driver can win only one race in four years and he is a hero. He was hired to win races, period. No matter who is father was. No matter that his father died a tragic death. It all boils down to the fact that is JOB is to win races. He did his job right one day out of four years. Sorry if it don't bow down and kiss his feet.

  2. If you like "historical mystery fiction with a bit of supernatural", try the Detective Ian Rutledge Series by Charles Todd. The books are set after World War I, Ian Rutledge is a veteran of the War and he went through a bunch of bad stuff. He is now a Police Detective. Ian was the cause of his best friend Hamish dying in the war...now he is being "haunted" by the voice of Hamish in his mind. Hamish helps him solve the mysteries but of course he has to keep Hamish a secret because people would think he is insane. The reader is left to wonder if Ian really IS insane or if ghost of Hamish is real. The mysteries themselves are interesting also. It's better to read them in order because you can follow the Ian/Hamish thing better.

  3. I know some people that are county employees and they do not get paid for most holidays anymore. Yes they are off but it is a furlough day which mean no pay. Like the up coming 4th of July they are not getting paid. I think the only ones they get pay for now is Thanksgiving and Christmas. But I know the stuff like Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day they don't get paid.

  4. People might be thinking "big deal" or "so what" when they read about the county budget. But it IS a big deal. The animal control is already cut back and the libraries and parks and rec. are also considerered being cut and Lord knows what else. But...its either cut back or raise taxes and nobody wants more taxes, but it's bad for folks to lose their jobs too. This meeting is important.

  6. Bobby C. Hanson, "Ludlow Porch"

Bobby C. Hanson, better known as "Ludlow Porch", 76, of Dawsonville passed away peacefully Friday February 11, 2011.

Born October 11, 1934 in Atlanta to the late Philip and Betty Hanson, he moved to Dawson County from Roswell in 1994. In 1971, Sports Illustrated magazine was looking for trivia experts. The magazine dispatched a writer to visit Ludlow and he came away convinced that Ludlow's head was full of worthless information, and wrote about it. The article got the attention of WSB radio and he was ask to come on the air. Officials at WRNG "Ring Radio" invited Ludlow to visit for a week. Ludlow stated, "I came for a week and never left." Ludlow has been a radio talkshow host for over 30 years having spent a decade as a "Ringmaster" at WRNG, over a decade at WSB where he helped transform their format into a talkradio giant, and beginning in 1994 on the Funseekers Radio Network which still broadcasts daily. Ludlow's listeners developed over the years into a legion of "Whackos" who became an integral element in the two-way conversational approach which Ludlow mastered. He always ended his show with his saying, "Whatever else you do today, you find somebody to be nice to." Ludlow lived to make people laugh, mostly at themselves, and authored books including "Fat White Guys Cookbook" and "Who Cares About Apathy". He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps where he served during the Korean Conflict and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Leigh Ann Hanson.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Hanson, Dawsonville; children, Barbara Davison, Asheville, NC, Philip Hanson, Marietta, Charles McGarvey, Washington, DC, Kyle Harvey, Alpharetta; grandchildren, Liz and Will Lewis, Michael and Jennifer Franklin, Kathryn Hanson, Helen Hanson; and great grandchildren, Hayley Franklin, Nathan Franklin.

Memorial services will be held Saturday February 19, 2011 at 2 o'clock at Big Canoe Chapel. Rev. Dr. Jimmy R. Allen will officiate. A reception will follow in the Broyles Community Center.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, 121 S. Saint Asaph St., Alexandria, VA 22314, or to the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame, P. O. Box 5313, St. Mary's, Georgia 31558.
