  1. Does filet mean that the bones were removed? Forgive me, I haven't eaten catfish since I was little. My mother ate it until she got a bone stuck in her throat once and ever since then I've been scared of eating it.
  2. I had my daughter in an in-home day care from 6 weeks old until she was old enough for kindergarten. There were three other children there as well as the care giver's own two children who were older and in school already. My daughter had the same caregiver at the same home for the entire time and basically grew up interacting with the same kids. I think the continuity and stability were a major bonus for her. She felt safe there and knew that her care giver loved her like one of her own family. I did check references and made sure that her state license was legitimate before leaving my child w
  3. My corporate credit card had repeated monthly charges for Johnny's Pizza on it for years. That was to provide food during working lunches for staff. There were large purchases at Honey Baked Hams in November, December and July for holiday luncheons. There were also charges from the pub down the street because that's where we had retirement gatherings. Over the years, my card also had thousands of dollars worth of cash advances on it that were used at the bank to purchase Amex gift certificates. Don't ask me why I had to pay cash and not just charge them but that's the way bank did it. Those gi
  4. Has anyone ever been to Panola Mountain State Park on July 4th? They have an annual night hike to the top of the mountain that I can't decide if I am interested in or not. From the top of the mountain, you are supposed to be able to see fireworks from all over the area. However, I don't think Conyers is having any this year so that leaves Stone Mountain as the closest display to Panola. I assume that you can also see some of the displays from Atlanta and maybe Decatur. But, I am on the fence and can't decide if it would be worth the trip down to Stockbridge. If you can't really see much, then
  5. How many days are you staying? The last time I was in Boston for the 4th, we drove to Gloucester for fireworks on the 3rd. Did the harbor cruise in Boston which is cool because the USS Constitution has an annual turnaround cruise on the afternoon of the 4th during Harborfset. Drove out to Salem, MA and spent the night. I want to go now!
  6. You can visit Charleston and stay elsewhere so that you don't have to pay so much for a hotel. Stay out on the Isle of Palms or on Edisto Island instead of in Charleston. Edisto Island is totally laid back, actually too laid back for some. It's the exact opposite of somewhere like Myrtle Beach or Daytona.
  7. Wasn't this an episode of GCB a couple of months ago? I know I saw this same thing on there.
  8. I'm making Easter eggs. I know Easter is over but I'm getting a start on next year's centerpiece. I'm collecting the large ostrich eggs, painting them pastel colors and then painting flowers or celtic crosses on them.
  9. My husaband has diabetes. He has to take a pill each day and is also supposed to have an insulin shot. The insulin is a new addition for him and if gets it under control, he can stop that and just go back to the pill alone. He takes Metformin and it is free at Publix. He has to pay for the insulin and it can be expensive out of pocket. He has insurance so I don't really know how much it is. He also has to have blood drawn for lab work at least twice a year to monitor his condition. He's supposed to do that every three months though if his numbers are high. Lab fees can be costly.
  10. Mine has dropped so much that all we could do when we saw it was laugh. We are so upside down in our mortgage that we're stuck here for at least another 20 years.
  11. My rule of thumb is that if I invite the child, I pay. If I couldn't afford it at the time, I would explain that to my child and would not extend any invitations to anyone. If I invite your child to go to the movies and you give them $20, they'll come home with that $20 still in their pocket. If they invited themselves,& kids being kids, sometimes they do, and I couldn't afford it or simply didn't want to pay their way, I called the parent and offered to take them along if the parent sent some cash with them. It's always been this way in my family going back generations. Maybe t
  12. Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. If you get tired of the resort & spa, there are lots of other things in Asheville to do, like the Biltmore.
  13. The police are out on Senator Rd already to direct traffic.
  14. What time does the graduation ceremony start tomorrow at South Paulding?
  15. When I was little I wanted to own an art gallery and fill it with my own finger paintings. As an adult, I'd love to be an owner of a small gallery or a Curator at some wonderful place like the National Gallery, MOMA or the Carnegie Museum. But the closest that I will get to that is member and/or Docent at the High. And no, I did not pursue it because everyone told me that was a ridiculous dream and that I'd never make a living at it. In college, I was steered by my mother and grandmother towards a nursing degree but I hated the thought of being a nurse and hated the sight of blood.
  16. When I was a teenager and just starting the dating game, my Momma told me that if some boy tried to do something that I was uncomfortable with or didn't want him to do, I should smack him and say no. Looks like Will's Momma taught him the same thing.
  17. Call your mother and ask her to help you change all of the locks. That's what I did when my 1st husband finally moved out.
  18. Get an attorney as soon as possible. Is your husband the father of your son? If so, an attorney can get started on an emergency custody & support hearing.

    Zoo

I don't think the zoo sells tickets at the grocery store. Kroger used to have a gift card and they might still carry it but you would take that to the zoo and purchase tickets. There wasn't a discount attached to it.
  20. Been there done that a few years back with an IT company. We all took a pay cut as well as two days per month leave without pay. They still had a massive layoff. Actually, if I remember correctly there were two layoffs about a year apart.
  21. I called Wells Fargo about donating money to the fund and they couldn't find it. The girl on the phone at the bank had heard about it though. She said that the account is in someone else's name at a different branch in Douglasville but that she didn't know what name was used. She said that I need either the name or the account number. Do you have the account number and if so, can you give it to me so that make a donation?
  22. In some states yes, in other states no.
  23. It's a VOIP service so it connects through your internet connection. They will send you the box to connect the services free. It's really easy to hook up. I like the service because it's cheaper and I can still forward calls and do all kinds of other things.
  24. My neighbor had it and hated it. He griped about their customer service and the call quality. We have Vonage which is more $$ than Magic Jack but cheaper than AT&T. We've had it for about six years and are very happy with it.
