  1. Hmmmm. Break into my home and you stand a good chance of getting shot. Break into my country and you stand a good chance of getting WIC and support from ... well people who I guess think breaking the law is ok. Ever try buying land in Mexico, a US citizen can't buy land there. They can get a long term lease but they can't buy it.
  2. Yankees who are not happy with where they decided to live. Boston has many great things to do as listed and you can visit many other historical places; Salem, Plymouth ect.; within an hour or so drive. Only place I have been though where I was at a stop light, it was red, I was going straight and the guy behind me kept leaning on the horn and yelling "go". I was in a rental with Mass plates so I have no idea what the deal was. But they do love their car horns there.
  3. A few thoughts come to mind. 1. LBJ and Long were not only accused by their opponents of being crooks, it is a fact that has been proven over time and to my knowledge no respected historian says otherwise. 2. I always love it when people read the white part between the black words and decide "this is what they really meant instead of what they wrote". Not sure where I wrote that I did not like LBJ but I guess you too are one of those who have the power to read minds. (if your responce is that you can read minds, I would check with Mr. James to see how that worked for him) 3. My la
  4. Politicians such as Boss Twead and crooks such as John Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd and Al Capone were all very approachable to the public and hard working at what they did, but they were all still crooked. That said, I do not apply any of the above to Mr. Dean and I agree that being approachable is something that more of our public servants should work on. I understood Pubby's point but was just suprised (or maybe not so surpised) at his choices of examples.
  5. Really? Huey Long and LBJ? Two of the worst crooks in recent political history? That is who you choose to mention. I guess that says something.
  6. Post from Micheal James: "stradial, I'll be at Baby Jane's at 1:30 for lunch tomorrow." Michael James did show up at Baby Jane's this afternoon as promised. I was already eating with a friend so Mr. James and I did not eat together and I paid for my own lunch. Due to time constraints, mine, I was only able to speak with Mr. James for a few minutes. I enjoyed meeting Mr. James and we were able to settle our differences mentioned in this thread very quickly and had a nice, but brief conversation. (again, due to my schedule) Mr. James seemed to me to be a very sincere and open person.
  7. Again, I say WOW! You can tell by my demeanor who I am voting for??? Let me see if I can get all of this straight, because I said the US was not a Democracy and because I said that making it popular to say it is a democracy shouldn't make it one and because I took exception to your tone when you typed "let me make this simple for you"; you can tell not only what political party I support, but also who I plan on voting for. Again, WOW! Why are you not winning every lottery since you read minds. For the record, I have not made up my mind who I am voting for, but I know who I am not
  8. Wow, I mean WOW. I am not sure how you determined that I am a Democrate or looking to vote for a Democrate, That is certainly news to me. And I thought my wife was bad about trying to read my mind. I presumed you would be seeking all the support you could get, from all people. My mistake. According to another post of your's, if I read it correcty, it appears that you feel that if it is popular to describe our goverment incorrectly it is ok to do so, rather than be correct. I remember someone else once said something along those lines; "tell a lie long and strong enough and it bec
  9. I have to agree with the above post. I was taught that we were a democratic republic. Not a democracy.
  10. Deal! (nah, I have better than I deserve)
  11. Not one thing to do with your question, sorry. I thought you had received your answer already. The law was changed about relations without marriage, the law was in place to help stop homosexual activity, at least that was the idea. This was just something along with common law marriage. Again, sorry if it upset you. And I agree with IC, you want the perks, you gotta take the misery. (don't tell my wife I typed that)
  12. I lived with a lady from 1979 until 1989 and in the early 80's when I was being interviewed for a job with Cobb County Sheriff's Dept. I was advised by the officers interviewing me that GA had no common law marriage but GA did have a law stating that intercourse without marriage was illeagle in GA, and that they would prefer I either get married or change my living arrangements sometime in the future as they did not wish a deputy to be employed and to be breaking the law. Two things: 1. They did not act as if anyone would follow up to see which choice, if any, I made. They were just saying w
  13. Used to be they had a saying for this type of situation; "he needed killing". Kinda covered it all, legal and otherwise.
  14. Hmmm. The first comment was I knew my neighbors then and now. That's true. The second was I don't think it is a good idea to shoot a gun in a neighborhood. My opinion. (maybe that's where I am a classic ignorant southerner, as that is an opinion not a fact) The third was that GA is not up north. My atlas says this is correct. Must be the second comment that upset them.
  15. Because it is not 30 something years ago is why I don't think it is a good idea. Even if I know what I was doing is safe and would not endanger anyone else. I too wonder when someone shoots in my neighborhood. As I said, times have changed. The noise is not what worries me, its the other stuff you listed. As far as celebratory gunfire, never understood that, cost to much money for bullets and as you said, what goes up must come down. So I think basically we agree, but I sure miss the "old" days.
  16. Three things come to mind. One, we knew our neighbors back then and now. Two, I did say I would like to shoot in my yard, but didn't think it was a good idea. Three, THIS AINT UP NORTH.
  17. I worked at night (11pm -8am) for 15 years and I never once thought about telling my neighbors to; stop mowing the lawn, blowing the leaves, trimming the hedge, playing ball with their kids or playing in their pool. I figured it wasn't their fault that I had a night job or when the time came, a baby. But then I don't expect people to do what is best for my life. I try and do that for myself.
  18. I grew up in Smyrna, one block from Atlanta Rd and Spring St, and the man across the street would shoot squirrels in his yard with a .410 shotgun and as kids we would sometimes shoot our .22 rifles in the yard. In the 80's we used to shoot off the back deck at my girl friend's father's house in Woodstock. When 4 of us were firing at once it was quite a noise. No one ever complained either in Smyrna or in Woodstock, but things have changed since those days. I wish I could do the same today, but it just doesn't seem like a good idea.
  19. When I first went to vote after I moved to Paulding in '93, after living in Cobb, Cherokee then Cobb again; I told the lady at the courthouse (I was voting absentee) that I had just moved to Paulding and didn't know which crook I should vote for as I hadn't been around long enough to know which crook was my crook. She asked what in the world I meant by that. I explained that it was my belief that most politicians were crooks, but if they were "my crook" it was ok. (I was joking....somewhat) After thinking that over she said, you know there may be a lot of truth to that. Over the years and
  20. Hmmmm, I guess the forest is obstructing your view of the tree. My mistake for giving you credit for being able to understand. I apologize.
  21. From Doraville's post: Did this happen or did it not? Ummm, it has been a long time since grammer school, but as best as I can remember THAT is a question. But then again, I try and read the black words and not what I think is in the white spaces between them.
  22. I have noticed that logic, facts and straight forward questions rarely get a straight forward, logical and factual responce. I do not know the answers to your questions, but I thought they were good questions.
  23. I have been dealing with this for a year and 6 months, ever since we moved and had to get a new number. The person that had our number last must owe everyone but me. I explain to the callers that the person they are looking for no longer has this number and please take it off the list. The collection people are always nice and do so. Sadly do to, I presume, the number of debts owed by the last owner of our number, it takes about 30 days to cycle through all the collection agencies. The calls then stop, but every quarter they start again as either new agencies get imvolved or the old a
  24. Oh Crap! I have owed the Smyrna Library .38 cents for an over due book since 1968. Mama always said that would come back to haunt me.
  25. Nah, I'm pretty sure it was that expired coupon thing, especially if it was dbl coupon day.
