I found that Margret Mitchell may have based her character Melanie Hamilton Wilkes on a real relative who had another famous relative. It seems that the GWTW character of Melanie was based on the real life Mattie Holliday, who was the cousin of the famous John "Doc" Holliday of the OK Corral shoutout fame. A lot of historians believe that Doc was in love with his cousin Mattie and that she was one of the reasons that he went west. Mattie Holliday later became a Nun and changed her name to Sister Melanie. Mattie Holliday (Sister Melanie) was also a cousin to Margret Mitchell and MS Mitchell

This was my first thought also. Back in the late 1800's an outlaw named Tom (Black Jack) Ketchum was caught and sentenced to hang. Ketchum was a slender man when when he was caught, but after a lengthy stay in jail he put on quite a lot of weight. The hangman was not very good at his job and didn't take into account the extra weight Ketchem had put on and he compounded this by using too long of a rope. So instead of a hanging, they had a decapitation.

I doubt that it will be treated as "just a dog". I don't know about GA law, but several years ago I was in Nashville when a criminal shot and killed a police dog, they charged him with something along the line of assult on a police officer. The LE spokesperson said that attacking a police dog was covered under the same law as attacking a police officer. BTW It isn't just Paulding that has dumb stuff happen in it.

Let me put it this way. The wife used to work one block from the Marietta square and late at night she would see coyotes running around the building. That was downtown Marietta and she saw them every time she worked past 9 0'clock. So you can guess how many there are around Paulding.

Like has been said, they build next to an interstate. New Bass Pros, Academys, Cabelas and West Marines mean more money in my pocket. They are some of my best customers.
