So what IS causing this? Sure. We all know local governments don't have to lower the flag, but why would they not? WHY? It is very shallow NOT to lower the flag for someone who served the nation 50 years as a senator. Both Kennedy and Byrd were Democrats. Both were staunch advocates of Civil Rights. So what exactly does Paulding and Dallas give as a reason? Is it because Paulding and Dallas are so biased politically? Is it because Paulding and Dallas are not Civil Rights supporters? What exactly is the reason? That's all I'm asking. No it is not a shove at Repubicans at all. You'

Excuse me? Like I did when Kennedy passed? Could you please point that post of mine out, please? I never said the local municipalities were REQUIRED but that executive orders do have a Constitutional basis and SHOULD (not REQUIRED) be followed even by the local governments. Would you please show again where I said the local governments were REQUIRED? A decision that he said was very wrong and that he repented of over and over again, renouncing the KKK. Out of respect you don't think Byrd gets the flag lowered for his 50 years of statesmanship? What about the 9/11 firefighters t

Frankly I don't care for your "tit for tat" either or your rude attitude for a senator who served longer than anyone else. I expect that from immature people but I didn't expect that from you. Yes, it was lowered for Reagan and Ford too. It was lowered for the fire fighers of 9/11 too, even though they were not in Georgia. I see a lot of double standards here. You still have to follow the law for a funeral procession. I'll remind you about this next time something comes up about the funeral protestors.

Is it the executive order you don't think we should follow or that you disagree with lowering the flag for Byrd? Or is it that you don't like it that Byrd was a Democrat? Maybe it is the fact that every other municipality around us has lowered their flags but you want to thumb your nose at the Federal Government. I'm trying to get a handle on why you think we shouldn't lower the flags for the statesmen Byrd was? Even if you disagree with Byrd, would you not want want the flag lowered if Clinton passes away? How about if W passes away and some cities decide they won't lower their flag - what wo

So you support Paulding and Dallas not lowering the flag while every other municipality around us does? Robert Byrd served his nation longer than anyone but that doesn't mean much around here because ... why exactly? I'll remember this the next time a Republican congressman or senator passes away and the flags do get lowered.

Gun Hidden In Stove Goes Off, Injures Man

Guns don't accidently go off and kill people when guns aren't in that house. -
Bceause it was a presidential order just like holding the Gitmo detainees was an executive order. Maybe it should be flown at half staff everywhere because it is the law to do so. The president does have the authority to make that executive decision for Federal sites. I don't know but I think following the law is a reasonable thing to do. JMO This was not a "shove at Repubs" but a question. I called and asked. Everybody else around us is following the executive order. Why is Paulding not? Do we think we are Sovereign Citizens or something?

I think they act more like Bill O'Reilly or Glenn Beck with a moderate bent.

But it is the local governments' job to know when a Presidential order is issued and, yes, those orders have to be followed, at least nationally. They are not suggestions. I saw several news reports that mentioned it since last Thursday and heard probably 10 different radio reports. The newspapers talked about it. All the other governments around us got the information so why didn't we?

The MDJ jas a conservative bias. Exchange one bias for the other is still a bias.

It was in all the news papers and on all the news sites, radio reports and TV stations. If someone didn't hear about it, you have to wonder why they didn't. I don't recall any other times the county or city flags were not lowered when there was a Presidential order. I'm just saying this smells fishy. Maybe it was an oversight but the flags were always lowered by the county and city in the past. You would think the county and city officials would know they have to keep up with this sort of stuff. It is their job to know. The excuse of not knowing is not acceptable.

All papers are going through this. It was "news" in Atlanta about 2 years ago when the AJC made all the tweeks you're talking about. It's was on all the local talk shows. NPR has run a gazillion pieces on this phenomenon the last decade.

Senator Robert Byrd died last week and President Obama ordered flags fly at half staff until Byrd's burial, with the exception that the flag should be at full staff July Fourth. I noticed that Chic-fil-A in Hiram has its flag at half staff on Friday but the City of Dallas flags and the county flags were not lowered. Why? I don't want to think that the City or County would ignore a Presidential order because most people here don't like Obama. Nor do I want to think the order would be ignored because Byrd was a Democrat. Hopefully this is just an unfortunate coincidence/oversight and nothing int

Now idiots like this will be able to legally carry where alcohol is served. Accidents do happen but now there is a higher risk that more idiots will be carrying in public where you and your kids are just hanging out. -
Do You Spend Too Much for Health Care?
stercus tauri replied to stercus tauri's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I thought the insurance companies choose the list of doctors and we have to chose from that list? Same with all those decisions since the insurance company decides if something will be paid for or not. How is that any different than the government making those decisions? But I'm confused on what you guys are talking about since the government won't be making those decisions anyway. Now everybody will be required to have the insurance like the Netherlands plan. The survey list said the other countries liked the interaction with the doctors much better than we have here. Maybe this part of the c -
A new report says the United States pays more for health care but gets less value for those dollars compared to the rest of the industrialized world. Remarkably, the country that came out on top of the list is not a socialist system but has a system very similar to the one the US just adopted. I don't know if this study is right or not, but I do know that health care costs keep going up and my coverage gets less and less each year.

Before my friend got booted off, she said the same thing about Congressman Phil Gingreyand was met with some hostility.

It doesn't offend me but I think it is really short sighted. Those parks you don't want are one of the things that attract industry to an area. The tax base has to show it is willing to support the amenities and spending necessary to attract those industries so there are jobs in the county. The SPLOST is paid in part by people from outside the county. Everytime they buy gas or an item in a store, they are paying. Without that SPLOST, your property taxes will have to be raised to cover the basics of county services, like police protection.

This is your prediction? We are to give credence to your prediction for 2011 whenyou said the econmy was just fine in late 2007 and you were looking at the facts and were positive things were great. You even then said there was no recession coming because the numbers said it just wasn't there. Now that someone says something to help advance the political agenda, you jump on that band wagon too. I'm beginnig to see a pattern here of how sources are cited: if it helps your politics, you like it but if it doesn't, you trash it.
-
The county has to provide services and that means money is needed. No SPLOST means no money. So the only other option is to raise property taxes. SPLOST: taxes paid in part by people who come here from outside the county Property Taxes: paid entirely by the residents. Pretty simple.
