  1. I think comparing Detroit with Carroll County is like comparing.......well, it's just.....I will be nice and not use the word stupid. Who compared Detroit with Carroll County? I said bad things like that happen everywhere, even in Carroll County. I could have said it happens in Dallas, Hiram, Rockmart, Acworth, Bowden, Buford, and any town. I am saying your conclusion of Detroit based on this instance is absurd. I'll be nice and not say that was a stupid conclusion to which you jumped. I don't like people dying and wouldn't wish for that.
  2. This event is not an indicator of everything that goes on in Detroit. It is one event. Whether you believe it or not, bad things happen everywhere. People are beaten here in Carroll County, too, but that doesn't make it a hostile planet.
  3. Just ignore him. You're not going to be able to have a conversation on this topic with someone who is incapable to rational thought. Just leave it alone. You see how the much of a hot head he is. Just ignore it. Don't stress yourself over it.
  4. You're not helping you cause by what appears to be Redneck Bullying and name calling.
  5. Now you're pointing out their hypocrisy. They won't like that.
  6. How are churches going to know who has a permit and who does not? So now GA is wanting churches to act as an enforcement agency? When guns were not allowed, there was a law that a violator could be prosecuted. Now, there is a minimal fine so in effect everyone can carry with a permit or not. But without the ban on guns, there is nothing to charge a person with who brings a gun on campus.
  7. Those are primal moves and responses just like Terri Schiavo. The girl is dead. This is very common in brain dead people.
  8. Next time, you will either be on time or you start going somewhere else. Either way, we no longer have to be rushed with a crowded calendar all day, get out late, and can plan our family time after hours. Patients that don't respect our time need to go somewhere else. They cost us time, money and too much aggravation.
  9. LifeSmiles in New Hope is good. Honestly, I think you're overreacting. You were late. It is not the responsibility of the dentist to call you if you are late. This entitlement mentality drives us crazy. Why should we have to spend our time calling patients who are late to find out if they are coming? We schedule our day and have to allow time for longer than expected procedures, interruptions, and all that while still getting out of the place at a decent time. There is a budget and staff get paid and the medical provider shouldn't have to pay overtime to staff because patients are disresp
  10. You mean welfare programs? They have been cut several times. The latest farm bill cut deep into the WIC and free lunch program. The same entitlements are in the defense budget. We either have to cut in defense spending like everywhere else or raise taxes.
  11. All of this from the austerity cuts? Looks to me like the defense budget is becoming an entitlement program because the salaries and benefits are eating away at the money set aside to cover defense programs. We either cut some of the benefits or we have to raise the taxes to cover the cost because the costs go up every year. In the era of budget cuts, nobody is sacred, not teachers, not soldiers, not anybody.
  12. There is no definitive moral standard. Any moral standard is always an interpretation that is subjective. That is why the rule of law is there. Or yours? You mean your interpretation of these standards, right? Other people have completely different interpretaions.
  13. Side note and leaving aside the point you made, but I have to ask if you're family of the young man? If not, and you were really told anything by the ER staff, then they violated every privacy regulation that exists. I doubt seriously you were told anything because that does not happen. If it did, that needs to be reported. If you're part of the transport or responder team, you are violating the HIPPA rules by saying this.
  14. You are assuming it is for media attention. What basis do you say that? In her speech she didn't say it was for media attention.
  15. Where did I say anything about people not having the right to voice opposition? Where? I said it's personal responsibility to move if they don't like the end result. Where did I say anything about people not having the right to voice opposition?
  16. It was a big deal when the first woman voted. It was news. It was a big deal as blacks entered white schools. It made the news. It was a big deal when blacks first entered sports. People said, "Don't cram that equality crap down my throat." It was news. It was a big deal with the first female astronaut. It was news. The first female sports caster. The first black football referee. It was news. As acceptance triumphed over bigotry, it was no longer a big deal. In the mean time, it's a really big deal.
  17. That's not what my brother and sister's friends are saying. It is overwhelmingly positive. They have a name for gay people who don't support their diversity. They call them Gay Uncle Toms.
  18. It's an airport. It's not a smelting plant. Though I wouldn't like planes flying over my house and causing it to shake either, I also know that personal responsibility means if I don't like what is coming in around me, I move. That's how it works in America.
  19. Because of the bad weather, I was at work from Tuesday morning until Friday morning. That means I was too tired to do any sort of celebration. In a couple of weeks he and I will go out to eat, maybe a movie. That's all. Neither of us like a made up holiday by the retailers to get us to buy stuff. We do make a big to do on our vacations and I'm fine with that.
  20. Yes, bravery is the right word. A person can be fired for being gay because it is not a protected class like gender or race. Just look at the workplace harassment in the Miami Dolphins locker room. Or look at what you said. It is fine to be gay, but don't talk about it or display it like heterosexuals do. It has to be hushed and kept out of sight. And we all know your husband's work is not taking half a day a week to talk about diversity, unless there have been several lawsuits against the company for allowing a hostile work environment towards gays. In that case, there needs to be half a day

  22. Gay and transgendered are two different things. Your article even said so.
  23. Heterosexuals don't announce it because they are the overwhelming majority. It is big news when someone announces they are gay because they are the overwhelming minority and because it flies in the face of the discrimination that is institutionalized against them. My brother is gay. My sister is gay. The ridicule they had to endure before they came out was unbearable. I saw them both cry themselves to sleep from the "do you wear capris, too?" Or the "which one you is the guy in the relationship?" It was insulting. It was overt and covert. If someone has to ask why this is even news or
  24. It's news because the barrier has been broken and it is time the bigots realized that there are many gay people in the world, and they are not monsters trying to covert everyone to become homosexual. This is the same barriers as was broken with race or gender and it took much fanfare before the backlash of ignorance was forced to the backrooms. When Michael Sams announced he was gay, there was a lot of "unidentified sources said" some pretty negative things, and that there was still a lot of bigotry out there. Or when the wrestler in Kansas made his bigoted tweets. The fact is that it is news
  25. Just left from Kroger on Thornton Road on my way home from work. It's crazy. Bread is gone. Tomatoes and lettuce are too. Only a few packs of cheese. Zero ground beef.
