I guess since I still have a Georgia number I'm still getting GA amber alerts on my phone.

  2. Sure, why not.

Ms. Phipps offered to get the info but interest dried up by the big media by the time I called so since I'm the only one reporting it, I'd be nice if the location they were based could be confirmed.

As I think about, Rucker is the regular Army Air Calvary base and this was obviously their type of training. Now if it were foreign nationals being trained on how to throw folks from a helicopter, it would have likely been the School of the America's group down at Benning that was involved :)

I don't actually have any sources, the closest I get is my husband works up the road in Ozark, and at least a few times a week they fly helicopters over our house. The Rangers are based out of Rucker no?

  3. Okay.... and you probably won't hear this anywhere else.

There was an approved Army training exercise .... possibly out of Columbus ... at the local airport.

I gather that nine soldiers were taking part and were jumping from the Huey helicopter from low altitude and had to deploy their chutes.

While successful in avoiding serious injury, the Paulding EMA PIO MaryAnn Phipps, reported that one of the soldiers did sustain a non-life threatening injury in the exercise that did force his transport to Kennestone Hospital for treatment. (I'm guessing a broken arm or leg probably).

Anyway, the media from Atlanta called and expressed interest in the event but determined that since the injury involved was relatively minor, the novelty of a soldier falling from a helicopter during a training exercise was not a big enough bit of news to get too excited about.

Ms. Phipps said the exercise at the local airport is now over and they've returned to where ever they were stationed. (I would think they would have come from Columbus although since this was a helicopter operation, I suppose they could have made the trip from as far away as Fort Rucker in LA near Dothan although the original location is pure speculation.)

You want me to check with my sources down here in Ft Rucker?

  4. That's the point...all the crossroads out there will go buy it, allow it to inspire them for a minute and a half, and ultimately concede that she's reached her glass ceiling because she had kids and there's nothing more she can do to captain her own ship. She'll spend middle age saying things like, "I wonder where my career would be if I didn't stop working to have children" or "I could have had XYZ, but I chose to have kids instead". When in fact women can and DO have both.

How many people do you think really implemented "Hope is Not a Strategy" and how many of them bought it because they wanted their boss to see it sitting on their desk?

    A sucker is born everyday...

I don't think success lies in a dollar figure, but in the context of THIS BOOK and THIS THREAD, her audience is typical corporate america and yes, that success is defined by zeros.

Sorry, kiddo, if you thought all those people were working 80 hours a week for a pat on the back and a free ham at Christmas.

They might think they do, but believe me they don't. Most of us are smart enough to realize it, some of us are living in a fantasy world.

  5. Wow! Your screen name really does fit you nicely. Oh yeah, with OT I did make six figures. So I stood up for myself for what was right makes me a whiner? I should lay back and take it? You don't know me DGITW. You need to get over yourself. You really have no clue as to what your talking about.

She's not the dumbestgirlintheworld, just the girlwiththemostscrewedupideasofwhatmakesapersonworthy

Sheryl Sandberg makes $300,000 base salary plus $30,491,613 in FB shares. This book isn't for written for you (or I for that matter).

If you're leaning on a union to get you to this type of income level, you're the dumbestgirlintheworld.

If that's her target audience then I hope she doesn't hope to make a profit from the book.

  6. Held you back from what? Let's face it, you were an hourly wage employee - I'm sorta doubting you were going to go from an hourly wage employee to a seven figure + earner in your lifetime - especially with a government contractor. Kids or no kids. The fact that you whined, complained and sued to get a 401K (that's likely worthless today )and benefits speaks to your limitations. Now, if you were talking about stock options or executive trusts, I would understand. Again, you're NOT the target audience for the OP's author.

If you work for the government, you're a cog - expect your yearly 2% pay increases and obligatory promotions and get over it. If you CHOOSE to work for the govenrment, you CHOOSE to be owned by it's governance.

All of this is beside the point. The point is your kid did hinder you (her), fair or not fair. Why should your emoloyer have to keep an employee who is limited at doing her job due to circumstances then getting an employee that can do the job without the added baggage?

Life isn't fair, and no one owes you any work. You either make your kid a priority at the expense of your job, or you make your job your priority at the expense of your kid. No one owes you anything.

We have the right to the PURSUIT of life liberty and happiness, not a guarantee that we'll get it.

  7. My 2 cents, what is holding women back is that it is down right impossible to be both a good wife and mother and a successful business woman. Therefore women are required to make a choice at some point in their life as to which path they want to go down. A man is never asked about how having children will affect his work life. Unless you are doing pretty financially well at the time you have kids, then it is very hard to find the time to take care of the children and work a grueling 40+ hour work week without extensive help with childcare and home chores.

When you have a two working parent household it just rarely falls equally on the mother and father to take care of children. Both my husband and I work full time, and we have 2 daughters 2 and under. When they can't go to daycare because of illness I keep them at home, when they have doctor appointments I take them. If I were trying to work my way up a corporate ladder those things would keep me back.

Our society has evolved into a two income society, and that has led to the downfall of the family structure. Someone needs to be there to focus on the needs of the children. We get it done as two income families, but we don't get it done well. Yes it's great that women can do everything men do, but at what cost? Maybe it would be truly evolved if we were thinking along the lines of encouraging men to do more of the domestic things in a family therefore making an environment where a woman could have a family and a career because of her spouses support with the homefront. That would be true gender equality.

It's nice to think that we as women can have it all, and we can, we just can't be great at any of it. Because those of us working moms with kids feel like when we're at work we're letting our kids down, and when we focus on our kids we're falling behind at work. Wouldn't it be nice if men felt that same pressure.

  8. Their phone was ringing this morning, people where asking about their scheduled meetings being cancelled because he was out of business,

He sold the restaurant on 92 over a year ago. The that restaurant is closed now.

I am not sure why people are finding internet post that he is out of business.

I'm confused, I thought the one on 92 was just changed name, same owner. No? I didn't know the one on 92 closed, but I haven't been back in Hiram since September.

  9. Don't lock you kids in the car people! I was at Dollar General this week and a mother was all atwitter at having to wait in line at the register that wasn't right by the front door because she locked her sleeping baby in the car and couldn't see around the corner. I guess the cokes and candy she was buying just couldn't wait.

I'm too neurotic. I won't go in anywhere and leave the baby in the car. I'm sure the one time that I did do it they would get taken and I couldn't live with myself.
