  1. Color us all as resisting change so you can marginalize our views and dismiss them. A federal standard in education is not a good thing. Change for the sake of change is not a good thing. Implementing a change that has not been proven effective is even worse.
  2. I agree that the real unemployment number is higher, it has to be. The info that I listed came from the Ga Dol website. The problem with the reported numbers is that they are based on weekly claims and does not factor in those who can no longer claim.
  3. Anyone in touch with reality can watch the current Deal ads and see that they are false. The ad speaks of money, businesses, and jobs brought to this state. . . and it is a joke. For example, the reported fed. unemployment rate is 6.3%, while GA sits at 7.0% Deal is just a politician and, as such, is just as worthless as most other politicians.
  4. I wouldn't say that you have control over me in any way at all. What I would say is that your warped views and obvious need for attention seem to infect this board like a cancer. I can't look in any topic without seeing a post from you, most often a post that doesn't relate to the current conversation in any way whatsoever (save that your posts consist of letters and words, often put together in confusing ways). And when I think of you, it is in the context of how sad and pathetic our society has become. So don't flatter yourself.
  5. Fox News lied about the Civil War? So. . . there wasn't really a Civil War? On a related topic, you sure do hate this state. Why is that? I mean, I know you blame everybody and everything for whatever your problems are, but you take it a few steps further by insulting the people who live in the state (including those that have moved here from more "enlightened" states). And what of Woodstock? Do you hate everyone there as well, aside from the fact it is still in Georgia? I guess what I am asking is are you able to tolerate anybody . . . anywhere . . . ever? Or a
  6. Is this you trying to prove the point that real History needs to be taught in schools? I didn't think there was much more to American History that white people hate Indians, southern white people hate blacks, and MLK was the one and only great American since the founding of this great nation. Besides, any mention of the Civil War must (by law??) make reference to how terrible the south was and still is. (and when talking about the Civil War, please do not make mention of the fact that the man who freed the slaves and waged the war was a republican)
  7. Yeah. . . I think that's an entirely different thing.
  8. I am such an idiot (sometimes) Weeks later this post comes to mind, and I just got it - even though I mentioned the same thing after this post was made!!!! Holy crap.
  9. Standardization does have a long history in our country, that cannot be denied. In some areas it is necessary, while in others it isn't. As for education, the only standardization should be that all schools teach math, science, english, history, technology courses, art, and others. Standardized testing, on the other hand, has had a harmful effect on school systems. When students are being taught to prepare for a test, there can't be much room to discuss other things or let free-thinking and exploration take things in a fresh direction. I and/or others (in this topic or othe
  10. Pubby: As a journalist, you should stick to reporting on trees down around the county. You have shown that you have no real integrity as a journalist in other areas. Your responses reek of condescension and pompousness when you speak of things that (as a liberal) you are compelled to support, regardless of the merits (or absence thereof). Your remark "these are backward ideas - 19th century concepts that follow the conservative mantra - if it was good 'nuff for great, great, grandpappy, it ought to be good enough for you" proves my point. And you bloviate about standardizat
  11. True. I don't visit that one often, but the food is as good there as it is at the other locations.
  12. And your distortion of the facts is what gets mine.
  13. So, pubby, you really think this was about preventing conservatives from taking over the schools (so to speak)? I am disappointed in myself that I am shocked by this. If anything, conservatives do want to lessen the influence that liberals (and their unions) have over our education system. As for creationism being taught, I think there is a place to teach it beside evolution because things had to start somewhere. Short of that, religious views should only be an option, never a requirement. I am a conservative and my objection to common core has nothing to do with liberals o
  14. Seabreeze in D'ville or Baybreeze on Canton Rd east of 75. You can't be the amount of food for the price. And it's yummy!
  15. We have thought about catching a game in Rome, but have yet to do it. I might be interested in something like this. Although I do like doing my own thing. . .
  16. You are all over the map and I really don't think you even have an idea of what you're talking about. If you are saying that religion is keeping people down, you are dead wrong. And other than that, everything else you are saying reads like gibberish. Back to common core. . . This can be better visualized by talking about my cooking. If I cannot cook a decent meal and my wife suggested that a newer, fancy oven would fix that. . . that's what the common core standards are. And to take it further, it is like making sure all homes have this newer, fancy oven in them so if
  17. When I was little, we moved from here to Florida, and I was a little behind what the students in 5th grade were learning. But when I moved back here going into 9th grade, I was way ahead and put in AP classes (if available) or I was bored to death in the regular classes. I understand the desire to make an education more "portable", but standards should be set according to the top states. Make everyone meet a high standard, one that is already set. There is no reason to create some new, convoluted way of doing things - one that will take some time to see what a disaster it is -
  18. Poverty can be a road block. But if the individual has the drive, an education can be achieved. Blame the state, blame the rich. . . blame christians and white people if you want, but in the end you can only blame the person.
  19. I have always thought it amusing that the "experts" claim that no positive results can be gained from such a negative punishment. Highly educated idiots. Things weren't so bad when corporal punishment was still an option.
  20. ". . . most likely to hit another vehicle on purpose"???? How did they come to this conclusion? And if people said yes when asked the question, it makes me wonder how many may have said no. I knew we had some idiots around here, but holy crap on a stick: we really suck.
  21. Silly. Didn't you know it has been about control since the early 1960's? And when your hear that schools want more parent participation, they really only want your money. . . and for you to make sure your kid accepts what they say without question. I hate what the school system has become (system says it all, I guess) and I feel for the teachers that really have the desire to teach.
  22. Just like the other times that school systems have tried the "next best thing", they will ditch this one too. The only question is how many kids will have their confidence crushed first? I am concerned with those who feel the need to change things that really don't need to be changed simply to feel like they are doing something.
  23. I take it that this helped you. You seem to be a success at being a dummy.
  24. This is amazing. Everyone needs a cat like that. I showed this to the freeloader cats hanging around my house and they were like "whatever." Stupid cats.
