    SNOW DAY!

Fun!! I wish we had a hill like that. Gee, you could have charged money!!!
  2. I agree totally! I'm sure responding to emergency situations are stressful enough, let alone adding bad road conditions. I hope everyone is staying safe, and that the sun shines bright and warm soon so everyone can get some rest!!
  3. We may be going, and taking 4 boys around 10/12 years old. We have never been to The GA Dome for anything. Where do you get Marta? Is it safe? What are the other options for parking? Any other hints? TIA.
  4. Even though I dont have a hill that large to travel on, I stayed home because I knew is wasnt going to be good! Someone should have at least thrown some sand on the hill..No fun!!
  5. I'm sure it wasnt just "working people" that were out. I know someone who got up this morning and drove not having a clue what was even going on with the roads. There are many people that dont pay attention. For instance, the ones that as of Noontime today, are on the news, speeding across the ice in downtown Atlanta. The ones that dont know enough to slow down and use caution. There are circumstances where people HAVE to go out, but there are others that go out by choice and end up causing a bunch of problems.
  6. Even the roads that have been treated and seem okay now, WILL refreeze again. If the roads look wet, they are icey. Be careful!
  7. Yes, snow was always on for us unless it was a MAJOR ice storm, or if it was snowing so hard the trucks couldnt keep up. If school was cancelled for me everytime we got 1/2 inch of snow, we would have had days off weekly!!
  8. Its just why I say it is different here. There are no intentions of maintaining the back roads, which makes it different. Because this area doesnt get this weather that often, it is understandable that they arent equipped for it. Believe me, I dont like driving in it ANYWHERE..which is one reason I moved here--a lot of good that did me!! LOL
  9. I lived in a town so small we didnt even have a store, post office, or anything for that matter. There were NO roads that were completely ignored. They may get tended to a little slower in ice storms, but they get tended, and usually by 10am to Noon, they were all safe to drive on. Yes, maybe not for less than an inch of SNOW--but always in ice...which is what we have here.
  10. Yah, on my way home yesterday, they were both starting to build up some snow. I figured it wouldnt be good, just trying to back-up what I told my boss! I'm not going anywhere either.
  11. I'm from Maine, and even the back roads get sanded and salted. They are out throughout the storm and are equipped to handle it. Here, they treat the interstates, and dont even get to them all. In all my life, I dont recall a 27 car pile up due to the weather. The ramp was not treated, and was complete black ice. I didnt say ice is different here, the maintenance is different.
  12. Same here! I'm from up North, and my boss thought I was foolish for leaving because I was "used to it". I informed him that I have many years of driving in it, but not here. It IS different here.
  13. Eating snow is no different than drinking well water. We always had wells, and I havnt grown a third arm...yet!!! I have never made the snow cream, never knew about it until I moved to the south. I will have to remember it for next time!!
  14. I dont know anything about that! I always thought doughnuts were better while NOT in 4WD!!!
  15. I'm not sure about 101 on that side, but wsbtv says Goldmine is closed. I cant imagine its very good.
  16. Thanks everyone. I saw somewhere while searching for this, there is a pretty serious wreck on SR6 at Overlook. I think that is 278?? Has anyone left from Yorkville this morning?
  17. Someone posted a copy of road closures in an earlier thread. Where do I go to find them?
  18. Thank you!! I feel the same way. I left work early yesterday, and my boss thought I was a little crazy, but this ice could have came at any time. I knew this wasnt going to be good!
  19. I dont know, I read this earlier and was appalled. I dont know what is so hard about people doing their darn jobs, especially with a sensitive matter such as this.
  20. I had never heard that, but I felt "stronger" when on low carb. I never did it for more than a month, then I switched to vegetables and meat. Every body is different. For me, bread and potato are the enemy! Just "eating right" doesnt work for everyone, neither does eating less, or just exercise. These may work to keep the wieght off, but not necessarily for losing it. You really need to know how your own body works. Many fruits just add sugar to your body, so if your problem is sugar, fruits wont work. I know several people that have lost weight, kept it off and look good for years b
  21. I think the high protein part of it helps with the muscles. I have lost 15-20 pounds on it, then I stopped losing but didnt gain it back. I like it because it makes me FEEL so much better. I get more energy, and just feel stronger in general. I always take vitamins when I'm on a diet that omits certain healthy foods. If you are lacking in vitamins your body will crave, making your diet more difficult. I have heard of kidney problems with this diet, and is another reason for the excessive amount of water.
  22. Enjoy the snow..or the gravitationaly affected crystalized DiHydrogen Oxide!!
