  1. DEFINITELY ask at liquor stores. They have great boxes. And don't overlook places like Family Dollar. They often have nice, thick boxes as well. If you're going to buy them, I suggest Home Depot and suggest medium for the majority of what you get. Buy plenty of tape, several rolls more than you think you'll need. The good thing about the boxes you purchase is they are consistent in size and easier to load and unload, not to mention stack. I wouldn't get them from the moving truck rental places. They were more expensive than Home Depot. Even Lowe's was more expensive than Home De
  2. Who says they will be out of jobs? Most of the time, employees can transfer to another store. Then there's always Walmart, Target, Family Dollar, Dollar General, etc. Cashiers can easily get jobs because most places hire all the time. I guess my daughter is glad she made the switch from Kmart to Walmart years ago.
  3. Even their regular price on some of that stuff is better than almost anyone else's sale price. Only place that consistently beats Kmart on most, but not all, paper products is Family Dollar. Kmart must have a deal with Scott Paper while Family Dollar apparently has one with Georgia Pacific. Since I only buy GP, IP (International Paper) and KC (Kimberly Clark) products I go where those are the best priced. I refuse to buy Scott products.
  4. Best I've been able to determine, deductible is what you have to pay before insurance pays anything and out of pocket is the maximum amount you have to pay before you no longer have to pay anything. So, if your deductible is $5000, you have to pay $5000 before your insurance pays anything unless it's for the things where there is no deductible, like annual check ups. If your out of pocket is $10,000, after you pay $10,000 (the $5000 deductible plus another 5 grand) insurance covers it 100%.
  5. I was explaining all of this to my husband today, being as unbiased as possible, When I told him about the deductibles that people are having to pay, and the deductibles that will be due under the new ACA, he FINALLY understood why I was so frustrated. And now that I'm facing surgery in a short time, should I go ahead with it while I have crappy insurance and pay their deductible, which is the amount I would be paying for my shots, or do I wait until later when I have a deductible that may be twice or three times as much. And with the pending lawsuit which could grind the entire ACA to a sc
  6. Nope, they're down to 2 since I moved away.
  7. Absolutely!! And ON October 31, not some other arbitrary day that has been "deemed" trick or treat day.
  8. WHY is it even a question? When is Christmas? Is it going to be rescheduled to a Saturday? Maybe a Monday, like federal holidays? How about July 4? Should we move that, too? Halloween isn't even a HOLIDAY. It's a day for kids to dress up, ring doorbells and get candy. Why all the hoopla about WHEN it is? BTW, Halloween candy is available at my house on Halloween, October 31, so don't expect it any other time. And I only have it until we eat it all.
  9. The doctors office has never heard of my insurance (most doctors and their staff have not). They don't have a clue what the insurance will pay for the visit I had on October 8th We're still waiting for that claim to be processed. The insurance company started talking about deductible and covered charges and co-insurance and what would be the actual charge for the doctor and what would be the charge for administering the medication and said "it depends". So, no, they can't tell me what they will pay. Believe me, I tried to get that information from them. Best I could determine, they MIGHT
  10. Well, GD, you have to be optimistic and think that eventually they will get something right. The bad thing is the things like the OP mentioned is going to be the norm now. Based on what I've heard from friends who work in the school system, this is what the school system has chosen for its employees. High deductibles which must be met before insurance pays anything, some medications no longer covered and more services denied. FWIW, I am to start injections in my knee on Monday. It is a series of five and I have to pay for the solution AND the doctor's fee. It will cost me LESS to
  11. I know a number of people who receive assistance. Most are like what you described.
  12. I know of two who do that. In fact, they have put themselves in a bind helping others because they have been destitute themselves and know the feeling. I know of one more who doesn't get assistance but would qualify and they, too, work and don't do drugs.
  13. The way I did it was download the ringtone to my computer, hook up the phone as a USB device and move the file. I can't remember exactly what I had to do after I got it in my phone but I remember I had to move it again once I got it to my phone (mostly because I didn't know which file it was supposed to be in). Mine is not an iPhone so your process might be a bit different but that should be the general way to get it to the phone.
  14. One of my favorites: "The Birds" Some others: "The Grapes of Wrath" "To Kill a Mockingbird" "Casablanca" "Psycho" "M"
  15. It's not just stats from the states. When we were looking for a house, I read the census for every single area we considered. I read specific reports regarding the census primarily race and home ownership but also age, number of children in the home, etc as we didn't want to be in an area with a lot of rental property and we didn't want to be in the minority as far as race or age goes and didn't want small kids all around us. Well, someone lied. There are a lot more rentals in this subdivision and this entire part of town than we thought but the majority of them have been rented long term
  16. I have a good friend who lives in Knoxville. He says there are parts of town you don't want to be in after dark. And some you don't want to be in PERIOD.
  17. They are proud of that! Really. When we were looking at houses, we always tried to meet at least one neighbor. One lady (and I use that term VERY loosely) wasn't a Cajun but referred to her husband as one but using the term coonass. She was proud of that fact, too. And no, it's not a negative term nor is it racist. They (meaning Cajuns) sure know how to have a good time. There are quite a few down here and combine them with good old Florida panhandle rednecks, you got something to remember! But like Rockysmom said, keep the guns away from 'em. Not so much because they
  18. Really!! I love watching the fishing shows. Especially the local ones where they fish in Mobile Bay or Pensacola Bay. I've watched Roland Martin for years. Hey, I just looked up the list of pro bass fisherman. I saw a name of someone I used to know. Cool!!
  19. You do seem sort of Cajun. They like to have a good time and pass it on. laissez les bons temps rouler, y'all.
  20. I probably haven't watched 9 innings of baseball in the past 10 years and certainly not 9 innings of any one game. I don't care for football whether its college or pro, care even less for hockey and basketball. Not into NASCAR. But I do like to watch golf. I can't tell you the starting lineup for the Braves but I can tell you the top 10 golfers in the world. I have three favorites. Phil Mickelson, Boo Weekley and Bubba Watson. Boo and Bubba are local boys so we're real proud of them. I used to know the starting lineup and the entire roster for the Cincinnati Reds of the mid 1
  21. My mom has been gone almost 9 years and there are still times I think about picking up the phone to call her. And my dad has been gone for 39 years and I still think he would have loved my grandbabies and my kids. I wish he had lived to see at least my kids. Hugs to you LR.
  22. We have four houses for sale in the neighborhood. Come on down!
  23. Actually, having the sidewalk over the septic tank isn't as bad a location as one of my former neighbors has. Their septic tank is underneath their patio. The patio extends out to the pool. Almost the entire backyard is concrete. Seriously. My mom's septic tank was on her property but the drain lines were not. When the property next to her sold and they began building houses there, suddenly her septic tank quit working correctly. She ended up having to connect to the sewer line that was put in for the houses built next door. Not sure if you have your question answered about who
  24. I changed my answers slightly and it said I belong in TEXAS! Well, OK as long as it isn't Orange, TX. Port Arthur would be OK.
