  1. The overwhelming majority of people who carry concealed weapons are law abiding citizens. It's the ones who don't carry legally that you have to worry about. Locally, in Mobile, a man was shot while trying to rob a Family Dollar store. The shooter was a customer who happened to be carrying a weapon LEGALLY. The suspect, however, was NOT carrying legally and was out on bail for robbery and using a firearm during the commission of a crime. MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The family of a suspected thief is lashing out after their son was shot during an armed robbery. Relatives of Adric White
  2. I can deal with the people blocking the aisles with their buggys. Usually if you try to squeeze by or say 'excuse me" they will move. The ones I have problems dealing with are the ones who are at the checkout. Please, do not start unloading your buggy before I've finished unloading mine. Unless the buggy is in front of me, I ain't done yet so back off. Also, please keep your kid off my heels, my rear and me in general. I don't even care if you tell your kid "back away from the old fat lady in front of you". Just get the kid off me. I was in the store on Saturday and at the check o
  3. Believe me if it happened doing THAT I would brag. Hubby and I were moving a desk upstairs. I was on the bottom end of the desk and it slipped a bit when my husband, who shouldn't have been moving the desk to start with, lost his grip. When I caught it, I almost went to the floor. I HAD to stand there, tears running down my cheeks, in excruciating pain, holding the desk up because if I let go it would have crushed me into the wall. I was done for the day. That happened probably 3 years ago and I still have trouble almost daily. One of these days, once I get my knee straightened out
  4. I like to think he's right there in that special place. My MIL is now in her own place of hell on earth. She has to depend on two of his victims for care, one being their daughter and another being one of their three granddaughters. And my sister in law has schizoaffective disorder (she's a bipolar schizophrenic). She also has a laundry list of other mental problems. She's her mom's primary caregiver.
  5. I should know that. I've been on Pcom for a long, long time. Must be losing my judgmental character since I've moved. I'll try to do better next time.
  6. "Why bother telling anyone about this? Nobody will believe you anyway." and then there's what my father in law told my daughters when he molested them "if you tell your parents, you'll be taken from them and you'll have to live with me".
  7. Just east of here, near Crestview, FL, a man was arrested for shooting and killing two bears who were attacking his dogs inside his fenced in yard. This in an area where we have seminars on how to live with the bears! They certainly aren't endangered here but you still get in a heap of trouble for killing them. I guess like the firearms instructor told the class on Saturday, if you shoot be prepared to justify your actions. Seems to apply even if you're protecting your animals. BTW, Nitro, I have a question for you. I'm going to PM you. Thanks in advance!!
  8. If you're over 25, you likely have some degeneration of the spine. Just a fact of life. The herniation isn't good but can be managed. They shouldn't have any problem doing pain management for six weeks or so if you're not needing a regimen of 3 or 4 times a day pain meds. If that is the case, off to pain management you will be sent. Sucks. Legalized, medically sanctioned drug addiction. You can see I'm no fan of it. Whether or not the doctor approves of the acupuncture, it's your life and your back. Do what you feel is necessary and what you feel helps. They likely will tell
  9. This pretty much sums it up.
  10. Did you shake your son in law's hand? Abusers are a lot like child molesters in that they try to create a situation where you must rely on them and distrust others. Or have no or little contact with others who might suspect what's going on and be able to help. Thank you for posting the number for Shepherd's Rest. They are a wonderful organization.
  11. I can't remember the last time I went to Ingles. I used to go maybe once a month but stopped doing that well over a year ago. I HATE Food Depot. I'm with you on their pricing. Their "cost" is often more than other places have for the same item. I did go once in a while because they had canned tomatoes with sweet onion and I could not find them anywhere else but at FD. Miss my Kroger. Also miss the old Publix which was where Sports Authority is now. That is the only Publix I've ever been to that I liked. I don't know why. I just don't like their stores. I love having Winn Dix
  12. If you're having to ask yourself those questions, you're already involved. You need to know how to get out.
  13. You folks must not spend as much on groceries as I do. I'd have no problem buying $50 worth of groceries. It's got to where going to the grocery store is like it used to be to go to Sams or Home Depot. I can't walk in without spending $100 now. And there is just the two of us. No pets, even. I went just to pick up pizza and olives today and ended up with over $40 worth of stuff. I bought groceries YESTERDAY!!
  14. Everyone knows that Dallas doesn't really exist.
  15. I saw that, but not on CNN. I can't believe a social worker would do such a thing!
  16. I know, right. It was frightening to me as a child to hear them scream. My room was on the back of the house, closest to the woods!! Yeah, like I was going out after dark after hearing that. I love gators. At a distance, of course. Got some great pictures earlier in the year.
  17. There are only a few people on here I trust completely. You're one of them, Lucky. I remember being cautioned by my mom about going outside at night when we had a report of a panther in the area. It happened pretty often, too. And I didn't live out in the sticks. It's City of Smyrna now. But as to the one at my house in Powder Springs, yep, I'm quite sure it was. Once you hear one scream, you don't forget the sound. I'd heard them from time to time growing up. I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that was what was at my house before daylight that time. No doubt. Hubby found tracks
  18. When I was growing up, panthers were pretty commonly heard or seen. In fact, I'd had one at my house in Powder Springs years ago. Also bears were seen pretty often. Apparently now either panthers or bears is cause for a breaking news story. Besides, Lucky 64 posted this. I trust her. She's good people.
  19. Do they want to know where you are and who you're with every single minute of the day and night? Do they call you repeated, scream at you when you finally answer? Do they try to keep you from friends or family, driving a wedge between you and friends or family? Do they constantly berate you, your thoughts, your ideas? And keep in mind, like Blondie said, all abuse isn't physical.
  20. Pretty common statement, I guess? Thank goodness I have never been physically abused. I had dated a guy who emotionally abused me but to be honest I was too "unemotional" to realize it at the time. It was later that I realized what he had done. I started dating him literally a week after my dad passed away and I didn't have the emotional stability to be in any kind of relationship. In some ways I guess it was a good thing I was in the emotional state I was in.
  21. Oh, absolutely!! Emotional and psychological abuse definitely happen and probably more frequently than physical abuse. I have a friend who is in an emotionally and mentally abusive marriage. Husband has never, to my knowledge, laid a hand on her. I have another friend who was in an emotionally, psychologically and mentally abusive marriage. She told me one time she wished he would hit her so she could leave and people would understand why. Many people don't realize PTSD strikes people who haven't fought in a war. My daughter has that.
  22. I told my husband early on in our relationship that if he ever hit me he best make it fatal because if I survived, his blow would be fatal. I agree with deBecker in that statement. Like the saying goes "fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me". i've never understood the concept of taking a beating because you believe a guy when he says he won't ever do it again. Then again, I also believe that if he cheats with you, he will cheat on you.
