  1. I think we know the same guy. One guy that I know owes almost $250,000. And I'm pretty sure in his case that is accurate. Of course, that is just ONE of the amounts he owes.
  2. OMG!!! JuleeBella and I agree! Stop the presses!
  3. Good gosh!! Just the individuals that I knew for certain, in just one county, owe $821,297.32
  4. I don't have to look at the list to know that I do know a couple of people on there. Well, unless they have just recently paid their taxes.
  5. That's why I submit my resume through an e-mail that is not associated with my FB account. Besides, they aren't going to see anything anyway based on my privacy settings. Even some of my friends (like my granddaughters) don't see much that I post. I've asked my references recently if they got any calls and they all said they didn't.
  6. I mentioned this thread to my daughter. She said she had the same problem with that one local group that I had. So glad to hear Paulding and Cobb are easy to deal with.
  7. So what about those of us who have their FB privacy settings set to where only friends see ANYTHING? Even some of my friends don't see everything I've posted and unless you know one of the 300 and something people on there with name is the real me, how could they write me off based on what I've posted? I don't buy that argument because not everyone is on those and some of us who are have their privacy settings set pretty strict.
  8. I have GREAT references. Professional references. So, in my case at least, it isn't a lack of good references. I think the biggest reason I'm having trouble finding a job is my age. I KNOW an employer isn't supposed to hold your age against you BUT I also know that they do. And why would anyone hire an overweight 55 year old who reminds them of their mom (or worse still, their grandmother) when they can get some skinny little college age girl who dresses up the place and is willing to work for half of what they THINK I would want.
  9. You should be able to use the sweet potato instead of the pumpkin. I make a carrot souffle and substitute carrots for the sweet potatoes.
  10. Ron, You will be in my thoughts and prayers. I only met your mom once but she was a delightful lady.
  11. I think it was because I used my AOL addy and they thought I was sending spam. I really believe AOL is the root of most spam. I can't blame them if that is the case. They didn't have to be rude about it, though. Accusing ME of spamming when it was THEM sending me stuff when I wasn't a member that irritated me. I had requested that I be granted "membership" but they denied it.
  12. It's not Cobb, Powder Springs or Paulding. I even e-mailed them to ask them to remove me from their e-mail listing and they replied that they couldn't remove me because I wasn't on there. I had replied back to their reply along the original e-mail where they were less than nice to me about sending spam to other members (which I didn't) and they STILL said I wasn't on their e-mail list and was not and had never been a member. Just WTH they got my e-mail if I wasn't a member, I don't know and they couldn't explain. I may try Powder Springs Freecycle again because I really would l
  13. You didn't say which Freecycle in this area you were trying but before you get all excited about doing that, let me bring you down. I have tried for YEARS to get "accepted". However, that doesn't stop the nasty e-mails they do send telling me that I've either posted spam (which I haven't) or I've posted that I want items without posting any that I'm willing to give away (which I haven't because...they haven't accepted me yet). I've had several people tell me they have the same problem with one of the local Freecycles. I can't remember which local one--don't think it's Paulding or Powder Sp
  14. I heard last week, I think it was on the Clark Howard show, that gas is actually going to be cheaper this year because there is such an abundance of it. Guess I need to ask my daughter if I can see the bill and compare it to ones we had before they moved in our other house. They are now on budget billing and it's $134 a MONTH. Much higher than the $14-$19 a month during the warm months but a whole lot better than the $300 a month in the winter months. With two little ones, they have to keep the house tolerably warm. Fortunately, the little ones will both be crawling or walking (running) t
  15. along that line, does anyone know a place that still carries Tyson bacon? I used to get it at Kroger but they stopped carrying it a few months ago. I've checked Ingles, Target, Walmart, Food Depot and an additional Kroger. No luck. $12.48 for 3 pounds is still over $4 a pound and that is ridiculous!
  16. In the last month I have bought four roasts, one package of ground beef (about a pound and a quarter) and one package of stew beef. I bought three of the four roasts at Food Depot for $2.98 a pound, plus the 10% upcharge. The ground beef and the stew beef were both about $3.00 a pound. I have two roasts in the freezer. The last time I went to the grocery store, I spent $125 AFTER my coupons which included a $5 off coupon and close to $15 in coupons total. NOTHING out of the ordinary. No paper products except napkins, only health and beauty aid was generic Tagamet, no snacks, no dairy pro
  17. Yep, Kroger has Oscar Mayer center cut bacon for $6.99. Best bacon I've ever eaten and since I'm the only one in the house eating it now, I don't mind but still.......that's a lot for bacon! I actually looked at my receipt to see if they had repealed the zero tax on most food items and they hadn't. I still can't figure out why it costs me so much to buy groceries when I'm not feeding kids and therefore not buying kids cereal, gallons and gallons of milk, soda, chips or stuff like that. I remember reading a couple of months ago that Folgers was increasing the price of coffee, and
  18. I hate to tell CNN this but the grocery price increase has already happened! It costs me more to feed the two of us plus a 10 pound cat than it used to cost me to feed three of us and a small dog. I can't walk out of Kroger without spending at least $100. I NEVER buy stuff like chips, sodas or "snack stuff" and rarely ever buy meat. If the prices increase significantly again anytime soon, we will have to learn to live on fewer groceries.
  19. When hubby and I got married in 1978 I was making the princely sum of $450 a month. Hubby was drawing Social Security disability and that was probably similar to what I was making, though probably less. We moved to this house which had a payment of $350 a month. No car payments because he had totalled his truck and just bought something fourth or fifth hand to replace it and mine was already paid for. Our utilities probably ran around $150 a month, if that much and our groceries were $50 a week or so. I ate out for lunch almost every day but that came to a total of less than $25 a week.
  20. I agree! The people at Tranquility are awesome. My mom was there for about seven or eight days in 2005. The staff was incredible. Can't say enough nice things about them. I think they are all amazing because I just could NOT do what they do.
  21. some of those jobs were listed over a year ago.
  22. All three of my interviews have been from jobs posted on the Internet. One on douglasjobs.com and the other two on Hot Jobs. I have not had one single interview, or any interest shown at all, from the ones I did eventually get a referral for through the DOL. One of the jobs I got a referral from the DOL was irritating. I have over 14 years experience in accounting and tax prep but because someone somewhere misread my resume, they said I didn't have the five years experience they were wanting. I had to RE-DO my resume HIGHLIGHTING the 14 years experiences and resubmit it. Then I foun
  23. Neither of my parents ever had a credit card! Ever. My dad only owed for two things his entire life--the house I grew up in and the car he bought when I was about 9. He paid cash for the other cars he had. The house was built for about $9000 in 1955 and the mortgage payment was a whopping $52 a month. Of course, he brought home about $100 a week and worked a very hard 48 hour week. Could be a lot of why he passed away at the age of 63.
  24. I haven't applied for any and everything. I have only applied for the jobs I am qualified for. I probably *could* do telemarketing but I have no experience at it, so there's no point in applying for that type of job. I'm now in the 50s in my resume submissions. I am also in MY 50s. It certainly doesn't get easier as you get older because like you said, it seems as thought many places would rather hire the young, skinny, ditzy college age girls than someone who has any experience or any personality. I've had three interviews. Went eight months before the first one, though. The prob
  25. I feel your pain. Hubby and I own a small business and can't find anyone qualified to do the work and take over the business. NOBODY. Either they can't do the work AT ALL which means you aren't willing to hire them or they can do the work but don't want to leave a steady paycheck for an iffy paycheck. We can't just hire someone off the street--they have to have specialized knowledge which we simply can't train them to do. They have to have a good base on which to work, being willing to work hard (that right there leaves a lot of people out) and be available 24/7/365 on short notice. The
