  1. Yep. I agree. Like those skills we have that youngsters don't have.
  2. My general writing is a combination of cursive and block. In fact, I often change between the two. Within the same document!
  3. I did not know he had been in hospice care. It hasn't been long since I saw him and he looked quite well. He was going somewhere up around Cartersville but had stopped at Martin's for breakfast. I didn't even realize it was him in front of me until I heard him speak. We never saw each other without giving a hug. He never saw my husband without a good handshake. We both got them that day. He helped me tremendously, more than once. When our daughter sustained a concussion and whiplash, he got her back "together". Once the CT scan showed no fractures, we took her straight to Dr. Ralph
  4. My heart is breaking. I loved Dr. Ralph. I saw him not long ago and we spoke a good while. RIP Dr. Ralph. I'm sure he is meeting up with Dr. Bob and Ms Georgia.
  5. Wow!! I'm envious. My grandmother's place is now townhouses on one side of the road and a dilapidated apartment complex due for demolition on the other. That's just the part I remember being "grandma's place". I loved climbing the magnolia tree at the side of my grandmother's house, loved playing in the barn, going to see the cows and chickens, driving in the bottom land. In that respect, I can never again go home. It's all gone. I can't remember how much land was part of the original homeplace but it was well over 100 acres. I think by the time I came along, it had been sold off to wh
  6. You are so right about that. I've learned that over and over the last few years. First with the house I grew up in and more recently with the one I lived in for 34 years. I am different and therefore the homeplace is different. Plus, the house I grew up in was out in the country when I was living there. It's in the city now! Really. Well, actually it is surrounded by the city limits. It and the property next to and behind it are not in the city. Yet.
  7. My question: even if one can't write in cursive, why couldn't they read it? Have we really dumbed down schools to where people coming out won't be able to read anything other than what's on the computer or their phone? Especially in the case of the witness in THE trial, those were HER words that she allegedly dictated to someone to write. Why couldn't she read what she said? And why didn't she write it down herself? While I don't believe she made a good witness for the prosecution, it was heartbreaking to see her when she had to say she couldn't read cursive. That's tantamount to
  8. Watch it. You might be accused of profiling here.
  9. If his wife Tweeted during the funeral, that is her business. Not mine. I could not care less what Alec Baldwin does or does not do. What the Kardashians do or don't do. If people paid half the attention to things that do concern them that they do to things that don't concern them, this would be a better place to live. Somehow the Wizard of Oz comes to mind.
  10. She did say she dictated it to someone else and they wrote it for her. She could read her name.
  11. I hear you!! I used to work for several different groups of doctors. There wasn't a one of them who had 100% legible handwriting. But I do know one thing for a fact. They could all read cursive. And I could read their writing.
  12. I guess they will go more and more to electronic signatures in that case. This last real estate document we had to sign was all done electronically.
  13. I agree, Stradial. I think that wasn't the only writing she couldn't read. If so, that is quite sad and I hope she takes classes to learn to read...cursive or otherwise. BTW, several people stated when they graduated. I graduated in 1973 and began writing in cursive in first grade and was printing before I got there. My youngest graduated in 1999 and began writing in cursive in either Pre-K or kindergarten. FYI, cursive writing is being "de-emphasized" in Florida schools.
  14. Closing documents and most, if not all, real estate related documents require a SIGNATURE and have a place for you to print your name.
  15. I've got 1099s I can show. May be a moot point. While the interview went well enough, I'm not sure I would take a job that I know will go away in three months. Or six months. Or three weeks. And there is no possibility of a transfer unless there is something similar within the facilities here which is highly unlikely. ALL of that type work will be done in one central location (not locally and possibly not even in Florida) beginning in 2014 in order to comply with the Affordable Care Act. They have no idea how long the job will last but do know it will be eliminated by the start of
  16. I'm hoping I'll run across it looking for something else. It HAS happened before. Glad you found your prescription!! And that reminds me of the need to schedule an eye exam pretty soon. So many things to take care of when you move.
  17. That last part cracked me up. That's funny. Medicare isn't so bad. My husband had bladder surgery back in December and after all was said and done, I guess we ended up paying about $250. He was in the Kennestone outpatient surgery unit for 12 hours (well 11 hours and 50 something minutes), in the Cobb ER for about 4 hours, plus had to have imaging done 10 days after surgery. We thought our portion was certainly reasonable. I was expecting several thousand would be our part. I was very relieved that it was a lot more reasonable. BTW, Glassdogs, I never said this before but I l
  18. I'm thinking of mailing in the application and the information they require. Even if they lose those things, I can get replacements. I know NOW where to get them. I guess a lot depends on whether or not my husband wants to go to Pensacola. I don't want to go by myself.
  19. Top to bottom, inside out and back numerous times. The thing is I REMEMBER setting it aside. Obviously with nothing left in the house when we moved, it had to be in something we moved. I'll just go to Pensacola and get another one. We'll make a day of it and have lunch at our favorite deli while we're there. If the Social Security office is like everything else around here relating to government, we will be in and out in a half hour tops.
  20. I'm glad they stopped doing that. Here, you don't have the option of using your SS# on your drivers license. And boy howdy is it ever a mess trying to GET a driver's license, not just here but anywhere, thanks to the new documentation rules. I still haven't figured out why the driver's license office accepted utility bills in MY name for proof of residence for my husband. It was just easier for us to get all the utilities in my name since I was making arrangements for them anyway. But yet, they used it as proof of his residence. I, OTOH, had to show a boatload of documents including
  21. Yep. My safe place for things like that is generally the fire safe. That's not where my card is. Nor is that where the cutting board got off to. I suspect the cutting board is in the top rack of the dishwasher up there. The card? No idea. That would be a problem for me. No pay stub since 2009. I do have a couple of 1099s I could take. Those are from 2012. They used them as proof of Social Security number at the driver's license office. I would really like to walk out with a card. There's not much point in going to the office if you have to wait as long to
  22. Well, if the dog ate it, I'm really in trouble. We don't have a dog. Yeah, let me go check the sexy lingerie. That's probably where I put it.
  23. Well, they have over 500 employees. Third largest employer in the county if you don't count the government and the military. If you count them, they are 5th largest. I've never had to deal with HR in the past. Usually I WAS HR. This will be new for me. I've never worked anywhere that employed more than 18 people. Except for the job I held for almost 15 years, I've always had to show my Social Security card. Even the job I held for 3 days as a temp,
  24. It's part of compliance in association with completing an I-9. I could probably get by with my driver's license and birth certificate but almost all employers, especially one this large, will require seeing and making a copy of your Social Security card. It's item #1 on list C of acceptable documents. It's like ordering Chinese food--you get one from column A (passport would work but I don't have one) or one from column B and one from column C.
  25. I remember years ago my neighbor had to get a replacement card. She mailed the information in and got the card back in about 8 days. I'm just concerned that if I get the job they won't accept a "receipt". Bad thing is I can show them a 1099 and a tax return but I can't show them the actual card. I can even show them an earnings statement! I just can't locate the stupid card because I was so stressed when I packed it I don't remember WHERE I packed it. I'll ask if they would accept a receipt when I go for the interview. I know I don't need the card for the interview but will if I get
