  1. One- the bank owned the house next door and the Marshall Dept. had no problem issuing a notice to clean it up. Two- why would one NOT want to give their name when filing a complaint? Three- The Marshall's Department does a fantastic job cleaning, or getting someone to clean, up yards. They got our empty, abandoned house next door cleaned up and it stayed that way. All it took was a very pleasant phone call.

  2. I hope a lot of y'all signed up for this. We went last year and it was so good, we went again today. The food is spectacular! What I love most, though, is the family style seating. Both years we have had wonderful lunch partners. This year was the best. We met Gene and Jo and could have talked to them for hours.

We found they do this dinner at Thanksgiving and will most likely try it in 2014.

  3. THE FEAST WAS FANTASTICALLY AND WONDERFULLY DELICIOUS!!! I hope they do this every year because I plan to be there. I love the idea of a family style dinner. We had wonderful company while eating and everyone of us chatted the hour away.

    THANKS RODNEY'S!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Preheat your oven to 475. While oven is preheating- put your cast iron skillet in so it can get hot. Melt a stick of butter. 1 cup to 2 cups- depending on how big your skillet is... Self Rising Corn Meal, 1 to 2 eggs and milk. Beat the egg then dump the Corn Meal in the bowl. Once Oven is preheated pour about 1/2 the butter in the pan and dump the rest into the meal, egg mixture. Add milk and stir til you get a cake like consistency. Pour into skillet and put into oven for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.

I make great corn bread. I have never added flour nor have I allowed sugar to be added.

  5. That is weird!! Mama didn't use the cherry unless we were taking them somewhere, that was fancy at our house!

Hubby doesn't like mashed potatoes or leftovers. Who is this man I married?!?!?!?!?

We all have weirdos in the family! Lovable weirdos, though!!

  6. My son did not like mashed potatoes, I thought that was weird.

My niece doesn't like them either. When she was little, I asked her why. She said, "Well, you know how Grandpa doesn't like leftovers? I don't like mashed potatoes." She was maybe 9 at the time. Mashed potatoes are the most wonderful thing in the world.

I love mayo, too. Kraft REAL is my only choice. When I spoon some out for a salad or whatever, I find myself licking the spoon. yummmmm!

  7. That is too funny!! As you see your mother making something that seems so weird to you, you're certain that she is the only person on the planet doing it.........I guess not!!

I just had a bit of weird.... My daughter posted a Pinterest link on FB of guess what?? PEAR SALAD!!! She commented that she thought her family was the only one that ate it and that she loved it minus the cherry!! Then I come here and read this again.

  8. I've been helping Mama since I could stand. She taught me so many things and her dressing was one of them. No recipe but I finally, after 8 years of being without her, can do a pretty close comparison. My Dad comes for Christmas because he says I cook like Mama. We grew up on fresh everything. Homemade biscuits, meringue (no cool whip), sweet tea... just fresh. I miss that.

  9. I prefer ham, Hubby likes turkey. I'm giving him his way entirely this year because today will mark the 25th straight day he's worked without a day off and he still has tomorrow to go, then he'll be off for 5 whole days to recover. The people GPC sent to New York got back this weekend and they are finally back on their regular schedule. He's worked 2 8 hr days, 2 16 hr days and all the rest 12 hr days and he's about done.

He deserves turkey!! and a massage and a vaca and whatever his heart desires. He's so wonderful and you and y'alls are, too!!

  10. Mama loved something called 'Ambrosia', it had marshmallows, pineapple, whipping cream and pecans I think. OOOHHH MYYYY!!!! And she LOVED these pair things, they were halved pairs from a can with a dollop of mayo in the center well, topped with grated cheddar cheese and a jar cherry!? REALLY Mama!!!!??????!!!!!! It's no wonder that I only like PLAIN food!!

I love pear salad!! minus the cherry...

I make Waldorf Salad. Apples, celery, crasins, walnuts, mayo. LOVE IT!! I only make a very small bowl. We always had it as I grew up so now I make it for Mama's memory. Me and the daughter usually split it as we are the only ones who really like it.

  11. I never heard of anyone having macaroni and cheese with Thanksigiving dinner until I moved to Georgia.

We never had it either. My SIL is weird and doesn't like veggies. The daughter makes it for him. I don't... I grew up in a house that taught you to eat what is served so I do the same. He is a WONDERFUL guy, but his eating habits need to be worked on and the daughter is.

  12. My husband loves green bean casserole. My side of the family are big casserole people.

    Squash casserole

    green bean casserole

    broccoli casserole

    Mac&cheese

    Sweet potato casserole

And of course the stuffing and mashed potatoes it's too rich for me when you add rolls.

I am the one that usually adds carrots, corn, and greens to the menu. The kids appreciate the corn and carrots.

I don't eat the rolls. I'd rather leave that room for other goodies. Some of the family likes to sop up the gravy and stuff. I detest green bean casserole. If someone makes it, I do not object.

  13. I only put a pinch of sage in my dressing. Only use cornbread and about 6 slices of 'stale' white bread or biscuits... depends on what is on hand.

We have mashed potatos, sweet potatoes, green beans (not the casserole), mac and cheese, broccoli casserole, rolls, cranberry sauce.... I think that's it. So, I don't guess we have a 'bitter'. I may have to add turnip greens this year. Great idea, Laurie!!!

  14. I like either or both. We fried a turkey last year, for the first time. OMG! It was so good!!! Makes it a bit difficult to make dressing, but I got it!

This year will be spent with friends eating out. Sunday is dinner with the DD and SIL's family. No turkey cooking for me!!!

Christmas I will do a ton of cooking, though. My Dad is coming up and we do Christmas here. I love will have a blast cooking!!!:yahoo:

  15. Let me just add this:

as Will and I have been jumping through hoops trying to adopt this little baby(cracked skull by her parents, if you can call them that....and SECOND child taken into State care), I have seen the nasty side of this sort of case. I was sooooo hoping we would be ENCOURAGED by the process as I have always had a VERY negative view of the State and DFACS. No such luck. Our view is only worse and THIS time, it is firsthand.

Let me just tell you all, the State puts THEIR wants and desires over children. MANY Judges feel they are God and have no one to answer to and their "subjects" are too afraid of them to expose them. I could type 5 pages on this. Our story could be a Dateline or 20/20 story, no kidding.

Firstly, I am so sorry you and the baby are having to go through this. Difficult for all involved. That said, if you were in PC, I can assure you this Judge doesn't feel that way. In fact, this county has some of the best DFACS and GAL's and the Judge is for the child. Move back to PC and get it taken care of.
