  1. Thanks everyone.

I too have a "brown thumb", but my musician friend (a paraplegic Marine) has inspired me to try this gardening thing and because I'm so impressed with both his and his wife's strength and perseverance, I'd like to try and send him the pictures.

He has sent me some pictures, but I can't seem to convert the files or I'd post them here.

    Thanks again.

  2. Okay, I may need a little help here.

First, I was off on the name: It's called a Cecile Brunner rose and secondly it's known as both a climbing and a rambling rose (I always thought that was just a Nat King Cole tune - not much of a horticulturist, am I  ?)

A fellow musician friend in Oregon was telling me about this pink rose last night, but due to my short term memory loss, I forgot the name and came up with one of my own, I reckon.

Anyway, back to the subject: Can a rambling rose also climb? (I'm thinking of "rambling" as only running along the ground). My friend wants to send me a cutting and I want to try to see if she'll climb up my magnolia trees.

I hope that provides a little more information and that someone can help. In re-reading this I can see I can use a lot of it!

    Thanks

  3. After retiring, I lost touch with a lot of friends and co-workers and one of these is a lady who always liked a certain hand lotion which is only available in Germany.

Having recently returned from there on a short vacation (Uncle's passing - really), I brought back some of this stuff and would like to send it to her.

My problem is - I do not want to invade anyone's privacy, so I am reluctant to post her full name here. However her first and middle names are Mary Louise and she worked with me at Paulding Hospital back when it was on Memorial Drive. She would be retired now as well and would be in her mid 70's I am sure.

If anyone knows her, it would be nice if she could be contacted and gotten in touch with me here with a PM.

    Can you help me out?

    Thanks

  5. I had the honor of working with Sara for 17 years, and everything stated in Jeff's obituary fits her to a t. She was a wonderful person and I am sorry to hear of her passing. Sincere condolences to the family and her co-workers who loved her very much.

  6. Also, I've been dreading a film called "The John Wayne Story".

Again, in my opinion, there's no one who can play John Wayne. He, like Johnny Cash (another hero of mine) is bigger than life, and any "bio-pics" of both need to be avoided, big time.

(And yes, I saw the film "Walk The Line". Great effort, but not John R.)

  7. Anyone who knows me closely, knows I love "The Duke" - John Wayne, and I'm seeing all these commercials about how Jeff Bridges' version of Duke's film is being nominated for all kinds of awards.

Don't get me wrong. I like Jeff too, I just don't think some stuff oughta be messed with.

Okay, okay! I KNOW he's not playing John playing Rooster. I just remember John Wayne in this scene. It rocks IMHO and I just can't wrap my brain around a new version of it!

Still, I reckon I better go see this new one, just to set my mind at rest.

  8. This thread proves there needs to be further dialogue between all entities: PHS, Rescues, PAC and the caring public.

Hard questions need to be asked and direct answers need to be given, else there's just going to be more misunderstanding and more scratching of those heads.wink.gif

Also, this isn't endemic to just Paulding County. It's happening all over the US.

PHS, Rescues and PAC's "symbiosis" was a model for other animal welfare organizations to emulate. It's sad that no "common ground" could be reached for it to continue.

  9. New Year's Day in Vienna will never be the same.

He loved Austria, and he loved the Strauss family!

"And that's the way it is", will never be equalled by any other phrase from any other "wannabee".

You pilot that yacht in the sky for us, Mr. Cronkite, and "pave" the way to Mars!

    See you there, Dude! :D

  10. Folks with dementia WILL kill you faster than someone without it.

    In this instance, with what?

    Words?

Recognize the threat for what it is and act accordingly.

    Re: Trooper Vetter

I am sorry for the loss of this very brave LEO.

I stand with what I wrote.

  11. Just my opinion.

    I like that opinion!

Isn't it called "Animal Husbandry" (or some such an archaic term??? :D )

And you're right: It should be taught in schools.

I'm telling my age, but this would be a very good FFA project.

But that's not going to get us out of this "fix", is it, 4thedogs?

I know. But if people won't do it voluntarily, then the STATE has to step in!

JSYK, I'm not a government employee.

    Just an an animal lover.

  12. "The old bag".

Hardly what I'd call "non-biased/objective reporting", but then one must consider the source.

Also, many of our senior citizens are living longer (and yes, maybe they should not be driving), and while I don't expect a police officer to be an "on the spot" psychiatrist, I believe that dealing with the elderly requires a bit more training and therefore more patience.

This is what is known as a "Sentinel Event" and IMHO, it will call attention to training our police officers not only to "protect and serve", but to understand senile dementia as well.

  13. You're "preaching to the choir", I'm afraid. ;)

The people who need to see what you posted, are:

    1. Not on this site

    2. Don't care

From what I read here, most folks are doing the right thing by Spaying, Neutering and Adopting. My niece has rescued as many dogs as she can without having to apply for a kennel license in Columbus.

I am sure PHS and PAC appreciate the space you provided in your Shopper. Very kind of you!

  14. Would it be fair to assume that you have already made a start with this? Written letters, asked for meetings, etc.?

    Yes.

For the last five years. Especially during election year. I asked for a meeting of the county commissioner candidates to address this problem. Nothing.

I have been (and will continue to be) a staunch advocate for the animals, but it's just Utopian to assume the answer's going to be handed to us on a silver platter. We have to go after it, and we have to make it fit our needs.

Mel asked what is it going to take?

    This is it.

There is good work being done. By very few people. And I think those people are wonderful.

It isn't just a Paulding County problem. It's nation-wide, and although the Michael Vick incident was about dog-fighting, it's put us "onstage". so to speak, and it would be a shame to let this opportunity go by.

    It's so simple.

Make an appointment to see our state legislators, sit down with them and provide them with the numbers and ask for their support in drafting legislation to hold people accountable for animal overpopulation. Then we unite across the state and come up with a law which will prevent 200 kittens being burned to death in May.

No it isn't going to happen overnight, but if we don't start somewhere, it isn't going to happen at all.
