  1. Anyone out and about and see any problems?
  2. I started in the phone book; but sure the internet might do. We actually worked with Cobb Cty DFCS and went to their facility. We had to sign all kinds of confidentiality statements and could not take anyone under the age of 16 with us. These locations do not look like "homes" or shelters. Ours was in an office building for security purposes. You can imagine how troubling it could be if unfit parents tried to reclaim their child. So you might call DFCS and see if they will guide you. I am thinking about trying it again for Easter. The other thing I was able to do was to set up some
  3. But it is the time of year to tell it again. One Christmas, we decided to work with a shelter for abused and neglected children. We donated a decorated tree from our school and dozens of Christmas cookies. But the big part was on Christmas day! We took lunch - which consisted of fabulous cooked meats, side dishes, and desserts. We took about 6 teens and 5 or 6 parents. We took a kareokee (spelling) machine and sang songs, there was face painting and "they" painted our faces. We had crafts and we read books; whatever they wanted. They sat on our laps and showed us their gifts
  4. Yes, I have and there is no high like it!!! You tingle down to your toes. I have also left the table and slipped a humongous tip into the pocket of our server knowing they wouldn't even know how much it was until we were already out of the restaurant. Isn't this a great time of the year; just brings out the "heart" in all of us.
  5. Ha! That was about to be my same comment. Drug dealers live well!!
  6. And would like it delivered. Who to use?
  7. Who the heck thought THAT was a good commercial???? Well, that Christmas song with reindeer or something singing in that vibrating voice, "Christmas, Christmas time is here; time for fun and time for cheer" - eeewwww.
  8. My dad is looking for a kitten or young cat for his wife

  10. Well, back in my day . . . I became a sahm and absolutely loved it. I did lots of things with friends and usually had dinner on the table as he walked in the door; because I loved that roll. If I didn't feel like cooking, he had no trouble with pizza or going out. Everyone is grown now and I am a manager - love my job, but I am tired and so ready to be a stay at home grandma; wish I could afford it!!
  11. Thanks everyone!! It sounds like a tiny bit of sugar or syrup and a pinch of nutmeg plus the "fat meat" of my choice and I'm in business!! I'll have to try it!
  12. A bit of naughtiness comes out here; song; "Chet's nut roasting on an open fire".
  13. So you THINK you can just say that and then stop? OH NO! You will tell us how to make that honey/bourbon/pecan/butter sauce - I mean - please???
  14. I love grits; but never tried sugar. I like butter, or gravy, or mixed with eggs; or all three!! I have been here for 30 years and love the south; it is truly my home. Remarkedly enough, the cooking here is very similar to Pennsylvania Dutch; which is where I am from. So I love it!!
  15. Maybe! Someone at the table said they had a recipe that called for syrup - might be similar to yours. I am willing to try it. As a transplanted yankee; I did not grow up with greens but I like them. This was the best I have ever tasted.
  16. That is waaaay cool! I am eating peanut butter cups and drinking chardonnay while I read pcom.
  17. I attended a business lunch today and they served greens w. bacon. But there was a delicious sweetness to them; almost like it had nutmeg? Any ideas or recipes on what it was? Thanks!
  18. One. No theme; ornaments from past to present. My tree topper is a handmade cloth angel. We're simple; but we love it!
  19. My mother was the only person I ever met who "loved" fruitcake - YUK!! BLECH!
  20. Need tires and no time during week. Anything open today?
  21. I like to buy a "together" gift plus one or two small and inexpensive personal gifts. For example - a gift certificate for a restaurant; and then for small gifts - gloves, a candle, a scarf, slippers, pajamas, socks, etc. I don't think grown and married kids need as many presents as those still at home. Christmas is for the kids.
  22. But thanks a bunch for blowing your horn. That way if there is one ready to pounce, you just scared it back into the woods!!!!!!!
  23. I have 4 cats and I guess we made it work too hard. It constantly got stuck and then broke within a month.
  24. Grown kids need a new DVD player for family gift and I know nothing. Best brand? Best value? What do I look for? Thanks in advance!
