ok TOTALLY off subject and completely random -- this made me think of the movie Whitenoise

By not having "mommy" hovering over my every move as a child -- I learned consequences for choices I made -- meaning that I learned that if I did not wear my shoes, then scraped up bloody big toes hurt. I learned that ALL on my own, I did not have "mommy" telling me to keep my shoes on or I would stub my toes.
