If you don't have the Social Security Card, I can tell you this: I went to get another copy of little one's a few weeks ago and they wouldn't take her birth certificate. They wanted my photo ID, and either shot records or an insurance card with her name on it. I also needed a copy of my card, but the name on my card is different from the name on my license and I didn't have a copy of my marriage license....by golly they took her birth certificate with my previous and current name to get MY social security card.

I didn't watch the video because everything is making me cry today, but this topic itself sort of made me stop and think. I was in New Orleans a week and a half ago, for four days. After walking around the city for four days, I grew quite used to people sleeping in corners, doorways, and under trees in the park, even during the day - visibly homeless, and almost always with something beside them to collect money in. There were several times I even had to step over somebody to get into a shop. At one point, I stood back and took a picture down a street which had several sleeping people on the s

I tried to tell her that. Aileen Hunton's Photography (Ali) is doing our pictures, dork.

I have it here - we use it to talk to the other half when he's on his 24 hour shift. Little one loves being able to see him and say goodnight even when he's not here. ♥

I was reluctant...but then she talked about getting it done in a shop and all I saw were dollar signs because of how much it cost her. My fingers are still numb.

Thanks! Today, I am super proud. She is definitely growing up too fast. All her life, her dad and I have talked about 'her first drum set'. It's a big deal to us, especially him, because he's a drummer and that's how we met. My mom and sister were also drummers. Nev has always wanted to be a drummer. I took this a few hours ago - kiddo behind her new ($25 at a yard sale) FULL sized drum set. -

I will! -
Pictures do this kiddo NO justice - I was in awe of how pretty she is in person! Just wanted to hug her to death.

I'm okay with a boy. She's most definitely not. Although, technically I'm even more okay with her being an only child. It doesn't help that yesterday she got her first drum set. A real drum set, not a preschooler set. That, in my family, is a huge 'big girl' step. She was, wasn't she? And she picked that dress herself. She wanted one like mine (one of those long pieces of double material that you can fold and tie into 100 different dresses), but we couldn't find her one. I was shocked she picked something so 'Easter' looking - most of the time she dresses in -

I'm so not ready to even think about that. Last night, she went to class with me. After sitting through a 45 minute lecture and taking notes with the 'big kids', she's decided she's ready for college. She even raised her hand and got called on. -

She's absolutely begging for a little sister. Can't be a brother though, I 'wouldn't do that to her!'. Mommy still has another year until she's remarried and two until she finishes her degree. Then we'll talk about babies. ...maybe. -
I joined p.com when I was 5 months pregnant. Tomorrow, I'm registering her for Kindergarten. :cray: :cray: Nev when I first really started posting: Nev now: /sniff sniff.

I guess I should clarify what 'not-so-big-budget' means. Some of the places we've looked are anywhere from $8,000 for 75 people to $27,000 for 100. The one that was $27000 was 100% all-inclusive. Their 'in house designer' does the catering, bouquets, centerpieces, invitations...everything. And it's all super fancy. We didn't want the in house desighter...just the venue, which was an adorable old farm-type place and was much cheaper before they added the designer as a 'must'. We want to stay under $8000. Under $5000 would be even better. Our biggest problem is that most places want you to -

A not-so-big budget. McGarity House we could afford...as with Hightower Falls and some of the other places we've looked. Che'ne Rouge...not so much. For the package that offers the least 'stuff', the lowest price is just over $8000 for 75 people. We have more people than that (unless it's in North Georgia, then not as many people will drive). -

I haven't. I did email then a couple of specific questions and all I got back was 'Our information is on the website' <-- exact quote. No greeting, thanks, *just* that one sentence reply. -

Oh dang - no, I didn't know that! My brother got married at Rose Hall and I was in the wedding. That place is *perfect*!...but they don't allow alcohol. The fire department will be there and alcohol has been demanded. I need to look at that place! I've emailed them, but I haven't received a response yet. SCORE!!! We're looking anywhere from here to North Georgia. Neverland Farms is on our list and it's in Cleveland. I haven't heard of either of those - I'll check them out! AND he's our DJ! It's on the list. One of the ones w -
Another wedding venue today, another one crossed off the list. ~sigh~ I'm about to start knocking on the doors of farms and asking how much they'll charge to let me set up a ceremony and tent for one day next year.

Well, there's a reason all of the liquor stores and gas stations have bullet proof glass to protect the cashier.

That's where we stayed, left and right, but we had to go back as far as Forsyth when walking. Our rental was on a street right next to Forsyth. It looked sketchy, at first, but after a few days there we realized that the 'bad' neighborhood started a little further down. I still refused to walk it at night. Overall, I wouldn't walk anywhere in Savannah at night except Bay Street (and River Street on a busy, well policed night) - the crime rate there is outrageous.

Here's the last place we stayed. You get a discount for staying a certain number of days and we also had an off-season discount. It's on 34th Street and Barnard, which is the very edge of Historic District. It looked really shady when we pulled up and we though 'Oh, Lawd, what have we gotten ourselves into?'...but the inside was awesome and you don't spend that much time in the room anyway if you're going to visit the town. http://moss-vacations.com/pages/property_b.html

The Crab Shack is insane!!! I love that place! OH and I got one of the giant platters with shrimp, crawdads, crab legs, potatoes, and a bunch of other stuff and I actually out ate him. The seafood there is absolutely the best I've ever had. We went when it was raining, which meant we were just about the only ones there...but you can't sit on the awesome deck outside. Watch out for the cats...they have 7 or 8 now.
-
I could keep going, but I realized it was getting long. There's really only so much you can do in a few days. We went down for 6 last time and managed to hit everything I listed and still spent most evenings in the rental reading (and relaxing in the claw foot tub - heaven!). The other half insisted on Riverstreet every day, also. There's alot of history down there, if you're into that, as well as alot of local monuments. I made him walk to see The Waving Girl at, like, 11pm. We spent a good four hours at Bonaventure.

My little one calls it 'the castle'...despite the fact that she's actually seen the 'castle' they're building off of 381. Every time we pass it she says 'Mama....they still forgot the doors and stairs!'. Even the kid understands basic architecture...

** Mrs. Wilke's on Jones Street for brunch - look up the website, that place is *amazing*. Cheaper than Lady and Sons and MUCH better. Just park on the street, put a few quarters in, and walk over to Jones...you'll know you found it when see the line. It's open 11am-2pm. *Lady and Sons, just to say you've been * City Market - lots of little art shops and studios. A friend of mine has a studio there, too. You can just go browse after putting your name in at Lady and Sons. Our wait was 45 minutes on a Thursday afternoon. o.O * River Street - aLOT of touristy little shops, pubs, the
