  1. Back in high school, I was on 92 next to the flea market getting ready to take a right at the yield, saw an opening, and BAM! Dude rear ended my Charger. Because I was leaning forward, not only did I hit my head on the steering wheel but the rear view mirror came off and hit me in the back of the head. I pulled off to the side and he got out just flipping out. Poor guy. He was watching for the opening as well, had a 'duh' moment and forgot I was there, and went for it. He took off some of my paint, and the front end of his bumper was damaged. If I was late for class, I would have been kick
  2. Will do! It was epic on so many levels. She's so ridiculously obsessed with college and my college friends, to see them 'pass their torch' to her was touching - especially from the professors/MA students in my 'group'. Right? I'm pretty sure she's going to wind up more into theater or art as she gets older, but it's nice to dream. No problem! Now that I'm not working an office job, I have more stories to share.
  3. I've somewhat attempted to raise my daughter to be as open-minded as possible. At the least, I want her to think for herself. So, when she asks questions like 'Mommy, can girls marry girls?' I typically prompt a discussion about what she thinks by asking questions, tell her what the laws say, and then tell her what other people believe. In this example, she said she thinks people should be able to marry whoever they want. I let her know that they actually cannot, to which she replied 'Says who? That's just not fair!'. So...she came to her own conclusion. I do the same with just about everythin
  4. Seriously? I mean, I agree with the whole 'it's silly that we can't honor the honor graduates for fear or hurting the non-honor graduates feelings'. I can even see where some might be ticked. ....but seriously? I can pretty much guarantee that in order to graduate you have to be able to spell your name. And pass certain classes in high school, which involve a 5th-8th grade education to get into. Algebra is required...you can't do algebra without 5th-8th grade math. Some of the 'non-honors graduates' missed being an honors grad by .01, .1, and .2 ...but all non-honors are autom
  5. I wound up soaking wet on a college campus while wearing a white tshirt yesterday. Complete accident, though...it was sunny when I left the house.
  6. Still getting married in a pasture. Still very, very earthy. But, it's a formal tux/Class A uniform wedding. He wanted traditional, I wanted earthy and laid back...we're compromising. So long as I can go barefoot down the grassy aisle of uniforms, I'm a happy girl.
  7. I do! I wear aviators. I never pay more than $16 or so for a pair of glasses. The ones I wear daily I picked up at the flea market for $5. If I spend more, I either lose them in a week or break them. Mini-Me has about half-a-dozen pair of sunglasses...she's obsessed with them. The ones she wears the most often are blue-framed aviators by Hannah Montana.
  8. Right? And promotions and raises are typically listed in the code of ethics or employee handbook as something you cannot discuss with coworkers. There's not a public recognition of it. I dunno. Maybe I was raised weird. I've always thought you work hard because that's what you're supposed to do, not because it gets you something.
  9. Take Chastain to 41, take a right. Go two lights to the QT, do a u-turn...voila! Sonic.
  10. I've never expected any type of recognition for anything...much less at my job. They pay me to work hard...it's my job. In school, I worked hard to get good grades so I could go to college. In college, I work hard so I can get good grades and earn my degree. I don't care if I'm recognized for any of that...the recognition is in the achievement itself. 'Hey...I earned this'...whether it be an award, grade, a paycheck, or a promotion. The real world typically doesn't hand out fancy robes or certificates of achievement when you do something awesome or above and beyond what's normal.
  11. I rambled. My bad. I guess I was responding to the above moreso than you. Some really do want to be 'honored' at graduation'...but most just want the title to slap on applications. I was just explaining why getting 'honors graduate' is more than just getting honored at graduation...it goes further than that.
  12. Nooooo, kids drop out of those classes because most colleges look at GPA and achievements when considering acceptance, and courses when considering class placement. Majority of colleges don't consider AP for extra placement, and most of the time it they no longer give the GPA bump for honors courses either. Example: Student sends in an application with a 3.7 GPA and an 'Honors Graduate' achievement with regular British Literature as their last English course taken (when I graduated, that was the Senior level course)...it looks better on an applicaion than the student with the 3.2 GPA and
  13. It actually doesn't take up much time - the honor grads are simply wearing a different colored robe than the non-honor grads (at EPHS, they're silver/gray instead of black) and there's a mention that they're wearing the robes because they were honor graduates.
  14. http://www.free-legal-document.com/free-temporary-guardianship-form.html Scroll down. They also have the wording for a temporary medical release, and a travel consent form.
  15. I laughed out loud and then immediately felt horrible for it.
  16. I immediately though of him, but he's having a bad day already so I decided to let somebody else break the news. He just posted stuff about GG what....two days ago?
  17. Another Golden Girl passes away. My link
  18. In Buddhism, the lotus flower is a symbol of the progression of the soul. Different colors also have different meanings. I have a Buddha tattoo, and he is sitting on a red lotus because red symbolizes the purity of heart, love, compassion, and passion. I agree with a lotus. I like the idea of butterflies coming out of a jar, as well. Something that symbolizes you and your kids, as well as your future together, would be awesome.
  19. Mine was up until 8pm last night and put herself to bed because it was 'too darn late'. Keep in mind she gets up at 6:45 in the morning, though. I've been blessed with one of those preschoolers that needs an ungodly amount of sleep in order to function cordially the following day...and I'm lucky that she's smart enough to be aware of this on her own. Now...give me another ten years and I'll probably be cursing her need for sleep when she goes to bed at 10/11pm and I have to drag her out of bed in the morning.
  20. I just posted this on my facebook this morning with a comment about how I love it when somebody accepts guilt/blame without excuses or 'the blame game'. The call itself sucks. Seriously. But the way he handled it afterward is awesome.
  21. I didn't even know p.com was there. We were some of the first out the door - the program started at her bedtime, so she was craaaanky. I'll have to watch Friday night! ♥
