  1. BOOTH WESTERN MUSEUM in Cartersville is a beautiful art museum Oooooh, you know what? I've been there and I LOVED it. They have a kids area as well. ~adding to the list~ Thanks for reminding me about that!
  2. Thanks! ♥ That is a great idea...but I'm an art student. I have a whole studio full of art supplies that the kiddo basically has free reign of, and she and I paint together on a pretty regular basis. I wish we had a kids art museum around here somewhere. I remember taking a field trip to a museum in Marietta that was full of Looney Tunes lithographs, actual drawings from the cartoonists, and kids art. 1995-ish? So much fun!
  3. Ooooh, good idea! Even if I can't talk the other half into it, it'd be a great mommy/daughter date. I'll have to check and see when it's here. I was supposed to take her to see Hairspray at The Strand last month and completely forgot about it before it was over. She wanted to see Phantom, too, but I forgot about that one as well. The kid was petrified of the lagoon thing at White Water, so I'm not sure tubing would be a good idea. I completely forgot about the Yellow River Game Ranch, though!
  4. We're dying for a family day, so we're going to head out as a family Saturday and do something. Little bit and I both voted for the aquarium, because we could live there if they would allow us. The other half, however, hates sea creatures and vetoed our votes. What else is there to do around here? I blacked out in the heat earlier this week so The Zoo is probably out of the question. She loves musicals, art, flowers, and animals. I tried to talk him into taking her to the Dali exhibit this weekend, but he's not believing that she loves The High as much as I do. I can't ride any r
  5. Skinny people aren't the only folks that live on communes. I know of and have been to several and they're all shapes and sizes. However, the one my friend started in Oregon is mostly skinny folks - they're all vegan, super healthy hippy folk with chubby little babies running around. I'd jump on this in a heart beat if I didn't think the other half would have a complete duck. Being an artist, in art school, I've been around enough nudity that I no longer bat an eyelash walking into a class with nekkid folks standing on stage. I also hate clothing - as does mini-me. Keeping that k
  6. OnDemand is the only thing keeping me from switching - besides the fact that I can't have a satellite at my apartment. We looked into it for the house when we move, but I only watch OnDemand - never regular television. I'll see if any of my friends are switching, though! There was a whole group of 'em complaining at school yesterday about the switch over to Xfinity.
  7. I've taken both Lexapro and Wellbutrin - Wellbutrin knocked me on my tush. I was exhausted, 'numb', and nauseous 24/7, AND it gave me mid-day headaches. Everybody is different, though. I quit taking it because I'd rather be depressed than not feel anything at all. Lexapro rocked so much I recommended it to Dxh. He took it for about two years. I didn't have any side effects from it, but he was sick for the first couple of weeks. Once he stuck it out, he was good to go.
  8. My dad is on STEP with Cobb PD - no extra money there. After 20+ years of being on Motors and in a patrol car, he asked to switched over. He rides a bike (the kind with pedals) and patrols the Silver Comet alot. He also gets an SUV with a bike rack and patrols the local parks, the place where they fly the remote control airplanes, and does alot of 'side' work patrolling air shows and things of that sort. If I'm not mistaken, the team also has four-wheelers to patrol the government owned forested areas, etc. I do know that the S. Cobb High School area is one of the high crime area
  9. It's inconsiderate for her to serve something that the child may like because she may have eaten beforehand? What if she fed her beforehand and the kid likes cake and ice cream? I'm not understanding how that's her problem. She invited the kid to a party...entertainment and free food...what the heck else do people expect? I'm now dreading my kid's first 'school' party this year. Ugh.
  10. Mine is a 5 year old girl and she eats like that. When I pack her lunch, she gets a sandwich, a container of fruit (peaches, pineapple, or grapes, typically), a snack pack of pudding/yogurt/applesauce, celery or carrots and ranch dressing, a banana (she has a FIT if I forget the banana), and then I let her pick something else to add in - normally she adds a cup of dry cereal. She gets a snack at school as well, on top of a breakfast of cereal and fruit before she leaves in the morning. Then, she comes home and has another big snack (normally cereal and fruit again...the kid loves fruit and
  11. My aunt lives there, so I've been several times, but never once to the downtown area. I couldn't even tell you everywhere we went...we were on foot and traveled most of the city. We were staying in one of the tallest buildings so we just looked up to find our way home. Broadway was gross. Gross, gross, gross. Maybe it had something to do with it being packed on a weekend, plus 600+ Slumber Party ladies (and some spouses) all bombarding it at once. That's alot of people all at once. Claustrophobic me didn't like the sidewalks at night - it was worse than traffic in Atlant
  12. I had the chance to go to Nashville with about 600 other Slumber Sisters over the weekend and wanted to give a BIG thanks to everybody who recommended places to go and things to do! We hit up a few of the small spots and then Coyote Ugly. Nashville was much different than I expected - I think I can count the skyscrapers on one hand. I guess being an Atlanta girl has me expecting large cities to be, well, large. One thing I did notice - it was raining when we came into town and they were sandbagging the river. I thought 'Oh no...not while I'm here, please!'. The next night we walked a few b
  13. I don't get it. I was in NoLa in April for a week and, other than a few abandoned buildings and homes on the outskirts of town, it looked great. We expected to roll in to disaster from the way people were talking but the majority of everything is rebuilt and the town is alive and kicking. Being me, I got curious and started talking to the locals - some of them had some amazing stories...which most told from behind the counter of their newly rebuilt business or as they were out shopping. Every shop I went into had 'Recovery' books with photos from before, during, and after Katrina...most things
  14. They were originally in the shopping center with Cheeseburger Bobby's and Mellow Mushroom. They opened the Hiram location this week, if I'm not mistaken. Very, very friendly guys who have some pretty awesome deals on cigars. Mister went from shopping there to lounging there after I kicked his stinky cigar habit away from my heightened sense of smell. I would mention the smell to them - because they're not in the dance studio, they may not know it.
  15. I was there in both June and July - neither time did I even see metal detectors on my way to the tag office, much less walk through them. The only person at the door was a receptionist before the elevator, then a guard on a stool in the tag office itself. He was just sitting there - not checking anybody. Both times - a month apart.
  16. Have they already lived together or had homes of their own? If so, then they probably have what they need for a kitchen. My favorite gift was a set of sheets. I don't remember what kind they were, but oh my gods were they the softest sheets on the face of the planet. Soft sheets are heaven to come home to after a vacation/honeymoon of plush hotel beds.
  17. Mine doesn't either. She'll ask for snacks all day long...the playground, to paint, to read...other than an occasional 'Lets go THERE!' in response to a commercial I don't hear much out of her in the way of wanting toys. She does get them more often than Christmas and birthdays, though. Like, I buy her a new Littlest Pet Shop animal about once a month if she's been good. It's $5 and adds to her ever-growing zoo, which she has been constantly playing with for over a year. She got a new bike in June, but insisted on saving and purchasing that one with her own money. Kiddo spent Easter
  18. I remember friendship bracelets, those big plastic rings with retro flowers and glitter in them (we traded those), tomagotchi/nano pets (OMG, those things were all over the place!), pokemon and magic cards....I can't think of anything off the top of my head but we definitely had fads.
  19. :pardon:TBAR posted that much when it happened...I just had to wait for my invite to find out where to go. I'm a super ninja, raising a super ninja. We'll be all stealth-like.
  20. Well, I've received the invite before so I guess I should keep on the look-out this year. Silly. Obviously you weren't around when they did them last time. They had a whole celebration area for kids at one of the entrances - lights, a train that kids could ride, hot chocolate, etc. TBAR invited me and the little one several years ago, but we haven't been since. One year it was closed due to the recession.
  21. Are they doing the lights, train, and hot chocolate for Christmas this year?
  22. Forever ago? This is what's going up in it's place: http://folklorehauntedhouse.com/ They're using the same building, but renovating the inside. There are pictures on the site and they did casting calls last weekend. Should be fun!
  23. But mooooom, Paper Jamz plays real music! And it's just paper! A whole three songs for $25. We have yet to buy into any of the fads, with the exception of silly bands. Even those weren't bought by me, but by my best friend and sister. Kiddo says they itch and 'collects' them on her doorknob - no swapping or wearing for her, but she does think they're pretty cool. I have no idea what the others are.
  24. Yup - google is yer friend. And yeah, in reality the chemicals aren't nearly as harsh as consumption. I make homemade cleaners (and anything else homemade) because I can reuse bottles and keep some out of the landfills, and because it's cheaper. I do make my own laundry detergent, and I use vinegar as a fabric softener in my Downy Ball - the clothes do not smell like vinegar afterward. I use vinegar for cleaning now, but Dxh gagged at the smell of vinegar so I had to use other stuff when we were together. Most recipes you'll find include vinegar. Sucks for those of us with uncooperat
