Oh wow, it's devolved to this point then...ok let me go ahead and interrupt to say that I, too, intentionally misspelled my screen name. neck hick chick

Not to be argumentative, but I suspect this is already the case based on the population count before and after...which I believe was somewhere in the neighborhood of 40,000 in the 90s and 100,000+ when growth was at its peak...I can go into Kroger or Ingles and walk through the entire store without seeing a single person I know and I've lived here my entire 40+ years except for a few spent in Cobb & Douglas when I first lived on my own in the early 80s. I think the problem is more one of busier lives and a focus on one's self and family that prevents friendly relationships in neighbor

Walmart Threatens To Pull Out Of D.C. Over 'Living Wage'
rednekkhikkchikk replied to michaelsudan's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Just because a small business CAN pay minimum wage doesn't mean it does or will...most small business owners realize how much their success depends on their employees. I wonder how many employees of nearby small businesses have to supplement their income with food stamps/welfare? -
And how profitable would Walmart be if they had no employees to do the actual WORK that brings in that profit? No, you actually said something worse. That profit and low prices are more important than the ability of another human being to provide for him/herself and/or a family. Why should I be forced via the taxes I pay to subsidize WalMart's low wage employees so the company can maximize its profit because you think its great that they sell cheap imported crap for low prices. In fact, after you figure in the taxpayer dollars required to supplement the low wages they pay,

I'm telling you - no going outdoors at my house until everything dries out some - and even then the nasty little critters will still just about tote you off...

This News Personality Said: "Jesus....."

She does make a valid ^^^ point, though...plenty of people condemning Paula Deen don't seem to take issue with comments/remarks/jokes that offend in other ways. It seems people have to weigh in on every little thing and seldom take a break from constant communication with others to the point that hypocrisy is unavoidable and sensitivity impossible. Too much talking...typing...opining...whatever. -
Nobody cares about any of that...all they care about is the drama. Ugh.

Heard on the radio this morning Ga Power plans to ask the PSC (LOL @ ask) for monthly increase of more than 6% (approx $8mo add'l on the average bill). There is already more than $20/mo in fees & taxes added to each bill...about half is sales tax - on all the fees in addition to the electrical service. We could do without these agencies that exist to simply rubber stamp whatever their biggest campaign contributor asks for. It's apparent none of them care what's in the best interest of consumers...

What's next, no time wasted on grammar or spelling because nobody wants to bother with/cares about those things in this age of texting either? I couldn't wait to learn to write in cursive. I think we started learning in 2nd or 3rd grade.

Kind of contradictory that she'd sue over the pay issue after she reportedly begged for a position elsewhere within the company 'even if it was for less pay' or well, that she begged to remain employed at all, really, if it was as bad as she says. Not defending the trashy redneck brother or Deen's turning a blind eye but not impressed with the plantiff, either

Yeah I thought the same but isn't it Food Network that dropped her? Like I said, I don't have time to dig around but I think this^^ is someone who is taking advantage of an opportunity created by someone else's rash business decision... She's not a diplomat, she's a cook. Her opinions have nothing to do with her abilities.

Supreme Court Strikes down DOMA and Prop 8

Are there too many handouts these days?

So what you're basically saying is that only unborn babies have an unqualified right to life & after they're born both they and their parents are no concern of yours...? What the hell kind of sermons are people hearing at church these days? -

Well then why does her use of a racial slur even matter? Sorry, it's all I can do to listen to the news long enough to catch the highlights of a story, much less search out every last detail. Whatever the story, it's little more than the talk of the day (and possibly someone's means to an end). There will be a totally different drama/threat/scandal tomorrow & today's BIG DEAL will hardly register in anyone's mind.

Everybody makes too big a deal of just about everything these days. I don't think immediate and constant access to any and all information breeds a healthy mentality...

Spin off of panhandling thread...
rednekkhikkchikk replied to Magic Mommy's topic in Paulding County NEWS
Oh good grief - you realize we are talking about someone on the street begging for spare change, right? Even those who take what little they get and buy a pint of liquor instead of an artery-clogging hamburger or pack of peanut butter crackers aren't scamming. They're doing what they have to in order to get by...not everybody needs the same things. If you had to sleep on the ground in the same clothes you wore yesterday & the day before, you'd probably rather have booze for instead of in addition to dinner, too. How pro-life can someone be who cites "scammers' as a reason -

Contact Warehouse of Hope in Douglasville. Good people there. And this^^ attitude is why leaving the needy to rely on the charity of others will not work in this country. Who wants to have to substantiate or verify that they are at a low point in their life and struggling in addition to the mental stress they already endure in return for a dollar or two from someone who has it to spare? -
I can't believe people are more outraged at him than at the unconstitutional actions of the government. To each his own...

Not defending her by any means, but in the case of Paula Deen I believe it's possibly just the way she was raised. Personally I am embarrassed for her but we are a product of our upbringing and she is as human and fallible as anybody else. I hope she at least understands the need to check herself if she doesn't make an outright effort to change her attitude but that is her choice. In my opinion it was stupid of George Zimmerman to put himself at risk and if he hadn't pursued Trayvon Martin in the first place none of it would have happened.

Me either. If you can prepare food that tastes much better for half the cost, why go out at all?
