  1. Like Lowrider, my daddy also worked on the C5-A at Lockheed in the mid to late 60s. Despite his assurances that they weren't going to fall out of the sky, when I was 3-4 years old I wouldn't stand outside when they flew over our house. No matter what he said, I just couldn't believe anything that big (and yes, seemingly slow) could stay in the air for any length of time. I also lived a couple miles from New Hope in 1977. Our neighbor's wife & children were among those on the ground who were killed. Glad I missed yesterday's spectacle. I have never flown in an airplane (o
  2. Ya think? When a business is lured here with millions in tax breaks, giveaways and other incentives, each job it brings can cost taxpayers thousands of dollars. In one instance I believe each job was to cost taxpayers something like $44,000 each...probably more than was even paid to those who were hired for jobs on the low end of the pay scale. Be cheaper to just let those people have a few hundred in food stamps, a free cell phone & subsidized rent. Deal was a party-switching crook when he was a member of Congress & he had multiple ethics investigations going on when he
  3. I've seen some this year that almost look like small houseflies...I despise the nasty things. Not sure I can stand any more around my place - and even though they are on a heartworm preventative I am still concerned at the number I see swarming the dogs when I let them outside, especially in the evenings when the viscious little bloodsuckers come out to feed.
  4. Whether it's the answer or not is strictly a matter for each individual to decide.
  5. I think the adoption fees for dogs are reduced to $20 this week, fully vetted, for any that have been at the shelter 3 weeks or longer.
  6. It's actually under a quarter of a mile. Just sayin...
  7. Every policy is different, however a leaking roof is not the same as water entering a home due to faulty design or construction. Most policies also do not cover damage caused by plumbing leaks that occur over a period of time; generally speaking, it must be caused by a sudden and accidental discharge of water such as a burst pipe, water line or water heater...
  8. Wow. We had to bring pencils and paper. If you didn't bring it and couldn't borrow it off another kid, they sold both in the school office for cheap. Sometimes they had used pencils they would even let you have for free if you didn't have money to buy one. I realize now I was lucky to have gone to school when it was an enjoyable experience, in classrooms with windows and recess on a red-dirt playground with swings and a slide. Seems like a stressful environment these days for everyone involved...
  9. You probably notice them because it seems once they hear it, people seem to repeat as often as possible, regardless of context. Plus every commercial you see or hear will have to include it at least once - some of the stupidest commercials I've seen are those trying to work around the phrase "I know, right?" or "Hashtag (something)" "Trending" is another over-used phrase I wouldn't mind never hearing again. Seems to me the local news people are the worst at using this kind of nonsensical language, Every now and then the weather person makes some comment that actually suggests the news
  10. I used to get a catalog from Lehman's that had a nice selection of these stoves (and other appliances to match some of them). Cool woodburning heaters, too, along with all the traditional Amish-type farm stuff...
  11. I assume they nest in that general area every year; I see one or two almost every time I'm over around Kroger. It makes me kind of sad to see them flying around hunting over the parking lots and businesses.
  12. Isn't Clark's contract with the county a set $$ amount? If so, it shouldn't have any affect on the taxpayers. If it means equal or better service, it shouldn't affect patient care. I'm with feelip, someone is being less than honest about the intent of this thread. The negative posts on the first page are still there for everybody to read no matter how much sunshine & rainbows those same posters are gushing in denial of the initial intent of this thread...
  13. No, the one in Rockmart (at Triangle shopping center on Hwy 278) has been closed for several years.
  14. And yet no matter the topic of discussion, you insist on trying to find a way to make it about OBAMA. Not everyone shares/appreciates your unhealthy obsession with the president or welcomes your rude, off-topic rantings.
  15. My stepmom is from England if you hit a snag or have questions...lol She is an accomplished cook and also the head dietician for Wellstar so she is pretty knowledgeable about all things food-related Good luck!
  16. Depends on the size of the little brother's opponent...and the little brother, for that matter. My younger sister was unusually small for her age (even into adulthood) and on more than one occasion it was absolutely necessary for someone to stand up for her - once when a cowardly punk in our neighborhood who was several years older and twice her size decided to pick a fight with her on the school bus. Sometimes it's necessary & appreciated, while others it could be considered unwelcome meddling. Maybe you should leave that for the 'black man' and those willing to stand up
  17. This isn't about you, your bathroom habits or your paranoid friends.
  18. A plumber friend of mine says he don't mind; that s*&^smells like $$$$ to him
  19. OUCH! Poor fella! Having suffered a similar injury a few years ago involving a broken decorative plate that belonged to my late grandmother, some super glue and my right thumb, I can certainly empathize. Hope he has a speedy recovery and some good pain meds for the meantime...
  20. Dude wouldn't have left his vehicle had he not been armed.
  21. Zimmerman could have stayed in his vehicle and done exactly the same...which is the premise of neighborhood WATCH, anyway.
  22. Every convenience store I am familiar with in the county is operated by a husband and wife, and often siblings and/or children...don't know any of their last names, though.
  23. There are multiple nonsensical words commonly in use these days. Strangest I can think of is one my BIL said he has heard on the job...'the ask' as a substitute for 'question' as in "what is the ask?" His company installs communications systems for very large companies with offices all over the US, and my BIL supervises/manages these jobs, so presumably these are college graduates and mid-level or better employees using this stupid phrase rather than continuing to use a word that has suited its purpose well enough for hundreds of years. These people think they sound cool. I thin
