  1. I really hate seeing these local & regional businesses gobbled up by larger and larger corporations.
  2. Why would you assume it's an old TV?
  3. He was the last time I looked, not sure how long ago that was. My sister went to school with him. His name is Carmen (sp) Ferguson.
  4. It's not just mental illness. It's also emotional imbalance or immaturity, isolation, bullying, etc. Hell, people don't want to be bothered to think before they speak or act these days, much less deal with the emotional baggage of others. Isn't technology wonderful? If you have to ask how I got from emotional imbalance to technology, you're not paying attention...to much of anything.
  5. Then, drugs wouldn't be so expensive and I doubt there would be as many people on them nor would there be the abuse there is now. Yeah I don't think ads have as much to do with the underlined sentence right there as addiction does but you're probably right on the cost. Personally, I'm not going to see a doctor if I have to (or he'll let me) tell him what meds I want based on tv commercials...
  6. Hence the "buy it or pay" provision. If you force them to cover costly pre-existing conditions for the same premium as a healthy individual, you need a LOT of people who will be healthy for a number of years to offset the costs to cover the unhealthy people that will come immediately and for which there were no previous 'healthy' years during which they collected premiums with little outlay. If we would stop allowing these deadbeat politicians to distract with their social agendas and demand they do their JOB we wouldn't have messes like this that are so difficult to fix without harm
  7. And again with tattoos you are talking about needles and blood. The point of my post was that hepatitis can do some pretty awful things in the process of destroying one of your vital organs and killing you - it had nothing at all to do with how the woman contracted the disease. And she should be embarrassed if she doesn't have enough common sense to know that nobody wants her handling their food (or any other merchandise they might be buying) with an open, bleeding wound. The manager should at the very least be reprimanded over her handling of the situation. These are some pre
  8. Yeah, you get hep C from contaminated needles. What are they contaminated with? BLOOD. I can't believe you are arguing in favor of this person handling food with blood on her hand. Gross. I know a woman who died this year from liver disease resulting from hepatitis she contracted years ago. She was very sick for a very long time - hep isn't like the flu, it can destroy your liver. Your liver keeps you from being dead. That's plenty of argument against bloody-handed restaurant workers for me.
  9. No doubt it's the big food conglomerations and soft drink companies and various retail associations lobbying against welfare reform. And JPMorgan Chase makes plenty o' money administering the program on its plastic... I assure you, the handful of voters who 'vote' themselves some free stuff into office pale in comparison to the really big money spent lobbying for the status quo.
  10. Maybe people were parking half in and half out of the road? That could definitely cause a safety hazard for traffic.
  11. Who does everyone cry to when they get poor service from a business they found on an internet search? Or from the yellow pages? Or a billboard? Do they then take out their own ad proclaiming everyone who advertises in the phone book or via billboard performs poorly or is a rip-off? Selling ad space in no way vets or guarantees the service or product offered...and in most instances there is no expectation of such. Not sure why so many are inclined to hold this site to a different standard but it's really not reasonable at all.
  12. And it's pure myth that the rich and huge corporations are the job creators. The middle class creates jobs as it spends money and thereby increases the demand that results in businesses hiring more personnel. True small business owners are generally going to be counted among the upper middle class rather than the wealthy in this country. Once a business owner reaches truly wealthy status, it's a good bet that the business has become much too large to be considered a small business, at which point the owner is as likely to be separated from the day to day operations as not. Not to men
  13. It's a pretty good distance between making loans to less qualified minority borrowers and practically begging anyone and everyone to come get an interest-only adjustable rate mortgage to buy homes that are excessive for their needs with no income verification or documentation required. They were making these terribly underwritten loans so they could slice em & dice em & sell em as bundled securities off which they and everyone else on Wall Street were getting rich. Then when these unqualified buyers couldn't pay, they cranked up the foreclosure machine and got rich all over aga
  14. Stating a person's race doesn't make someone a racist. What I don't get is why it matters what be looks like at all... *he
  15. An article in Friday's AJC about the obituary of an abusive mother which was the subject of a recent thread began with this sentence: "The children of a woman whose horror stories prompted Nevada to become one of the first states to allow children to sever parental ties wrote a scathing obituary published in the local newspaper" & then goes on to tell how the obit went viral, etc... Just thought I'd post since there was some discussion as to whether she was as bad as the obituary made her out to be...
  16. Not exactly the most qualified to advise people on suitable entertainment...
  17. I never do online surveys. For anybody. Ever.
  18. Well if we're gonna split hairs isn't Sudafed an effective decongestant? (Yes, it is and it pisses me off to have to jump through hoops and be basically considered a meth user to buy a product I've used since 1991...)
  19. When a student comes onto school property don't they come under the authority of the school, including their vehicle, for the duration? If so I would think this precludes the need for a search warrant...
  20. I've known this for quite some time and I don't even have kids!
  21. Well when you decide let me know...it works, right?
  22. Very nice! Wanna sell it? Just messin with ya. Couldn't pay what you'd ask for it, anyway. Although I do have plenty of grass you're welcome to cut if you want to enjoy that mower even more...
  23. Yes, but it was last week. Everything seemed to set off my temper. This week has just been mosquito hell, as has the rest of late spring & the sorry excuse for summer we had, so it isn't unexpected. I am tired of seeing them in the house, though. Never dealt with that before. Such nasty critters.
  24. Talk about a list that's dead on the money-our first dalmatian bit my (ex)husband's brother, the second one bit my (ex) husband, a dachsund we had when I was little bit me and my sister multiple times, and my JRT bit the vet tech during an x-ray and growled & snapped at a couple of strangers. My beagle is very mild mannered, but did snap at a kid who was tormenting him once. My sister has a 3 lb chi that would eat you alive if she had teeth and a little more weight on her. I avoid chows when possible for the very reasons given and don't recall ever meeting a shar-pei in person
