  1. LOL! All you have to do is read the newspaper to know this. Actually, a little research into his years in the House (including an ethics investigation) and his business dealings/finances should have kept him out of the Governors mansion but changing that D to R worked for him just like it did for Perdue. He touts his record as a job creator based on jobs promised by these companies enjoying millions or even billions in tax breaks, but how many of those promised new jobs have actually been filled by a resident of this state so far? I don't understand how labeling oneself a Republ
  2. Ah- I caught the end of this movie awhile back & wished I had seen the whole thing but didn't know the name of it.
  3. Too many people don't know (or maybe don't care) that opinions are not news...they just like to hear stuff they already agree with. Easier on the brain.
  4. I mostly go on facebook to look at the little Lentil dog with the cleft palate because he's so flippin cute.
  5. Oh come on now, you know what I mean...there's smart, and there's smart with a machine at hand to rely on for the answers.
  6. Or count change back without a cash register/calculator to tell them how much...I think technology makes people stupid, personally. Not to mention lazy, self-centered and unable to withstand a moment's delay...
  7. lol I just gave my VCR away because it was taking up space & I haven't used since...well, I can't remember the last time I used it. but as someone else pointed out, I said archaic, not obsolete... in my book, archaic isn't a bad thing other than a couple stereos, small tvs and inexpensive dvd players (and a digital alarm clock) my home is pretty much a modern technology-free zone with old but exceedingly reliable appliances free of digital readouts etc. I do have an old computer that runs a few solitaire games & scrabble if I feel like wasting some time but it, like the VCR
  8. I used to get some obviously spammy emails at my work address but I never, ever get this kind of stuff at my personal email address. Not complaining, just saying... Those I did get at work I didn't open. For any reason.
  9. That is a common misconception about flood insurance. If you are not in a flood zone it is not only available, it is relatively affordable. It is pretty costly if you are in a flood zone...
  10. Most of those things are already archaic (Patience and thoughtful consideration would be my suggestions-based on people's need for everything RIGHT NOW ) I honestly feel sorry for young people these days - I am not convinced technology will have made their world better and feel it will cheat them out of things that are real and enduring. Not a fan of life in a disposable world, I guess.
  11. What a wonderful world this would be if that^^ was the prevalent frame of mind
  12. I think you answered your own question.
  13. Yeah, dog woke me up in the middle of the night insisting to go outside, when I got back to the bedroom, biggest scorpion I've ever seen was right where I would have been otherwise sleeping had it not been for the dog's early morning wake up call. In fact, nearly every one I've ever seen has been right where I either had been or was about to sit/stand/step(ing) except the one that was crawling around on the ceiling one morning while I was getting ready for work. That was the worst-the possibility of it falling while I was standing underneath it. Also the only one I didn't beat to an unr
  14. Your last paragraph is an unnecessary and undeserved excuse for many corporations that have seen profits soar in the past few years yet they always seem to have someone else to blame for all those jobs they aren't creating. Save that for someone who doesn't read the business section of the newspaper or doesn't recognize the difference between reasons and political talking points. My point was that it has been this way for almost two decades, under administrations of both parties. It hasn't changed and isn't likely to change, at least not for any of the reasons (excuses) you've cited.
  15. My ex loved them...I tried one to shut him up once, it was OK as I recall. Not something I'd go to a lot of trouble to have but I'd eat 'em if that was what was being served.
  16. maybe the dad should contact the governor's office or the TV news people? Seems this kind of thing is only acknowledged when it threatens a politician's prospects for re-election...
  17. Yeah, this is much better...
  18. You don't know what you're talking about...many of the Democrats from that time are as much or more conservative than you are. I would have expected you to know the difference between a Southern Democrat and the rest of the party, much as you talk about them... Well post without including the words Democrat and liberal every now and then...sheesh. You do realize the Dems weren't in office when the housing boom was at its peak, right?
  19. That may have been so in the past, but in recent years the prevalent practice has been to maximize profit/shareholder return by any and all means. This has meant demanding more hours/productivity from the remaining workforce, automating & computerizing when and wherever possible and even laying off employees & replacing with lower paid workers with fewer/no benefits (or in some cases, subsidizing lower paid positions with welfare/food stamps). As it is, the private sector has used the past years' lower tax rates to bank the money they previously used to pay salaries & provide be
  20. that^^^ If we had the good sense to rely on ourselves rather than machines and to maintain the ability to live without modern conveniences in case just such thing happened, civilization wouldn't collapse; life would be hard and require a lot of work but people survived without electricity for millennia before it existed...I'm thankful for plumbing and electricity but I don't sit around and worry about losing all my electronics, etc. You either do what you have to in order to live or you don't...I don't believe any amount of money will change that.
  21. That's why movies are movies and real life is real life. There's already a story about Noah that those seeking the traditional telling can read right there in the Bible. Somehow I don't think God is too disappointed that Hollywood isn't portraying him accurately...more like angry that it's done at all: Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the
  22. Since the original post does appear to be in the context of the treatment of children, I will say I have to agree for the most part. Not to mention it's a childish response from an adult, period, whether directed at a child or another adult.
  23. The problem with ethics as a continuing ed requirement in any profession is that you can teach someone what ethical behavior is or is not, but knowing and doing aren't the same thing.
