  1. I took a notice sent to my ex by the IRS back to the post office after he moved and refused to forward his mail. I was told they would throw it in the trash, so I may as well go ahead and do so myself.
  2. Some kind of 'wholesale to the public' store has opened there. Can't think of the name of it right offhand.
  3. That is the most poorly written article I have ever read. I am not going to pay for the paper upon which it is based (and somehow I doubt the person who wrote the article did, either) but after reading the summary of the report found here: http://www.nber.org/papers/w20884 there is no way I would rely on reporting from this particular source. How does cutting benefits correlate to the CREATION of any jobs? Illogical conclusion. This: does not say this: This is the equivalent of a student copying from an encyclopedia, changing a couple of words and calling it research. Sloppy w
  4. Yeah unless you had notified the neighbor that the tree was a hazard (or can prove that he was aware it needed to be removed) his insurance company is unlikely to take care of the damage to your property.
  5. Politicians love that ^^ mentality - gives them free license to proceed as they wish - usually doing a deal for one of their big campaign donors, a relative or !! even a company in which they have an ownership interest or other financial stake. IF it saves tax money, they will spend it (and more) on something else-and that something else likely won't involve improved education for the students. Anyone who expects to pay less taxes as a result of these actions is going to be disappointed. That's a lot of lives to throw into turmoil for something that might save money - or might not.
  6. This is exactly what drives most business and political decisions, for better or worse. I don't think anybody ever bothers to see if it has the expected results, either.
  7. I would wonder why my sister/daughter/mother put up with that crap more than once...all parties involved bear some responsibility in my opinion. Of course, I saw things differently once upon a time...then I learned that not every marriage is worth saving for marriage's sake.
  8. What's the big deal of chalking something up to a misstatement and letting it pass rather than calling someone out on it and then turning it into an argument? Is it that important to always be right or have the last word?
  9. My ex thought pretty highly of Larry when the ex worked for the Bd of Ed. My condolences to the family.
  10. Braswell Mountain Road has a few icy stretches where the sun isn't high enough to get past the trees. The very worst of it between Braswell city limits and 61 is in the westbound lane.
  11. Completely unnecessary. How old are you, anyway?
  12. Geez even out in the boonies at Braswell we have the radio read meters - of course I get my water from Polk County but still...
  13. I know someone who has basically an entire ceramics shop to sell: kiln, molds and all but doubt he could help with anything custom because it belonged to his wife who passed away. Still I would be glad to pass along his contact info if you would like to ask him if he has anything that might be useful to you.
  14. I had to read it twice to understand it didn't involve a man chasing cars in a parking lot...but yes, usually when someone tries to see things from the point of view of another, they get a better understanding of why & how a person feels or acts as they do. Would be nice if more people tried to put themselves in the other guys' shoes whenever they are inclined to be critical of another's views but not likely to happen since so many rather argue than understand.
  15. Possibly they were saying they couldn't insure on HIS policy with the car in your name, which is correct. The owner of the car is the only party with an insurable interest therefore insurance must be in the name of the titled owner. And back then a Z-28 with a teenaged driver wasn't a risk insurance companies were eager to accept. Those that would, wouldn't do it for cheap. That has changed somewhat now, but for the most part the owner must also be the policyholder.
  16. Allow at least a half hour for dialing if using a rotary phone. Especially if the spring that returns the dial is broken.
  17. There are certain profanities I tend to prefer over others but I think I won't share those here. Otherwise, words don't hold any particular appeal to me other than serving their intended purpose. There were a few that my ex especially DIDN'T like...one night we were eating dinner & the news was on and the meteorologist said the word 'dank' and I honestly didn't think he would be able to finish eating. The way he reacted you'd have thought she said strictly to ruin his meal.
  18. I'm pretty sure that isn't the context of the quote I replied to but your response is not surprising as you obviously prefer to argue and try to put others down rather than discuss well, anything really. Edited to add: When the discussion centers on proper parenting and the supervision of children in all areas of their lives, you might 'suppose' what does and doesn't occur to me. I try to stay somewhat on topic. You'd be less inclined to make inaccurate statements about what others think if you'd do the same.
  19. It was a robbery. Proper supervision and training mean nothing during the commission of a crime.
  20. I put the bone from a honey baked ham we inevitably have at Christmas in mine while they cook. So good!
  21. When you posted this was near your home I thought about that ^^. As I recall that was quite an ordeal for you.
  22. At least nobody insists on being the bigger person of their own volition here...
  23. Here's the thing about expanded carry laws, though - not everyone who chooses to carry a firearm is responsible enough to do so, obviously. This child could have killed an innocent bystander, and it would boil down to 'she was a bad mother and should not have been carrying a firearm'. How comforting would that be to the family of the person killed? Not very, I'm afraid. I am absolutely fine with guns in the home for self-defense, but I can't garner the same level of support for people carrying guns in public and the increased risk to bystanders, whether intentional, accidental or simp
  24. I was so sorry to learn of R.L.'s passing. He will be greatly missed.
  25. Big flippin deal. Risk permanent damage to the environment & loss of habitat vs a year of lower gas prices. Not everyone thinks it's ok to exploit the earth and count on colonizing Mars when we've drained our resources dry. Bought eggs lately? A reduction in the price of a thing will nearly always see a ridiculous increase in the price of another thing, and it's always a necessary staple like bread, milk, or eggs. And it rarely, if ever goes back down to former levels. So when gas does go back up, we'll be paying high prices for gas, milk, bread, eggs, cheese, basically anythin
