  1. Did she have the option of refusing treatment? Of course she would have to have been quarantined regardless but still, I doubt they treated her by force...
  2. There are two at the parking lot next to First Baptist/Dallas New Era, and they are rarely more than half full. Not sure what's up with the ones at the schools, Herschel Jones recycle bin was overflowing last week, too. Just thought I would add, the shelter also takes shredded paper in addition to newspaper.
  3. You can find some helpful information about dog food ingredients & safety at http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/ (I assume it's ok to still post links such as this one?) You can also sign up to receive notices of recalled products from the site via e-mail. The only fault I have found with the site is that it contains A LOT of information, so it's best to have some ideas on at least a few brands you have fed or considered (as well as how much you can/are willing to spend) and then check out the reviews on the site. They are also categorized by special needs such as grain-free,
  4. It has been years, but as I recall she was a very sweet lady. I loved to browse around her store back in the day.
  5. I can't even watch that anymore, the way they try to sensationalize even when there's nothing new to report. They interrupted either the season premier or finale of Sleepy Hollow THREE times to report that basically a crowd had gathered to protest the verdict in Ferguson, and then treated everyone to a few minutes' video each time of people in a crowd doing nothing more than milling around. While Sleepy Hollow isn't critical to my life or well-being, I'd much rather look at the guy who plays Ichabod Crane (!!) than video of nothing going on while a TV news reporter tries to justify multi
  6. Another discussion rendered pointless by the Democrat and Republican parties. Is there ANYTHING they can't kill?
  7. I have not yet read the comments section after any article, regardless of the subject matter or if political, the ideology underpinning the article itself, that I didn't deeply regret it. Hence my random vents about the internet and its negative influence on humanity.
  8. So you think the White House could somehow get the same people who won't even call the president by his actual last name can somehow influence them to refer to the ACA as something other than Obamacare? That's a good one.
  9. I am just shaking my head and wondering where we expect this internet business to take us as a society (or as a country, for that matter). It's basically become a glorified electronic catalogue/television set complete with nonstop ads. And a kindergarten playground where someone is always taking someone else's toys away. Everybody done gone crazy...
  10. lol yes she does. Actual fire was a couple miles from me, was just this side of the really dangerous one lane train trestle bridge headed toward Hwy 113. Wind made it pretty worrisome, though. Glad nobody suffered any property losses. I drove out there this morning and it was still smoldering - possibly picking up a little, as the smoke was a little thicker when I left than when I got there. There are a couple houses close enough that I'm sure they will let someone know if it starts up again.
  11. Probably (one of those, I mean) cause the only other one I know of don't have a drive thru window (I didn't want my smart aleck reply to be misconstrued as being against any particular restaurant)
  12. Well BCBS/Anthem apparently isn't wasting any of their share on securing insureds' or employees' personal data....
  13. Are you talking about the one at the old mill location, across from Second Baptist Church?
  14. It is very nice and would match my existing bookcase but unfortunately I have a bunch of furniture I have to get rid of myself as I have run out of room. Much nicer than the particle/cardboard stuff sold in stores these days, and for that price, a great deal.
  15. Well incarceration certainly hasn't done anything to stem the tide....plus they learn all sorts of neat tricks n tips from the criminals they're locked up with. If nothing else, treatment would avoid that aspect of it, and likely wouldn't cost any more than we're paying now to lock em up. But decriminalization doesn't line up with asset seizure/forfeiture, so not gonna happen.
  16. There are still far too many who are still working it out. It really bothers me to hear these people who loudly espouse God and country and then turn around and wish something bad on another person, be it Muslims, Obama, or any other person or group it is popular to denigrate these days. I have been both churched and un-churched. I don't feel it changed who I am or made a bit of difference in my sense of right or wrong in either case. In fact, I didn't see much difference between the friends I spent time with in church and my 'worldly' friends...other than the use of phrases like 'Ame
  17. The correct order of concern for me would be 1) no coverage in an accident, especially one that injures or damages another's property 2) being taken to jail for driving without insurance 3) registration suspended (and risks another ticket) and then worry about paying more later for insurance. #1 could leave you in financial ruin, plus the harm you've caused others with no way to make it right... Guess it depends on where your priorities lie...
  18. I use ignore block. It's free and I see what I want to see and nothing I don't. Even trolls.
  19. My niece's two year old Samsung dryer has already stopped working. I had a Whirlpool W&D I bought USED in the early 80s -the washer finally broke in the late 90s, but I gave the dryer away 5-6 years ago still working like a new one when my sister took my mom's front load washer & I took her newer set (Whirlpool). Right away I had to put a new transmission in the washer. My friend found an older washer of the same model someone had junked & swapped it out for me, and it runs great ever since. Sad when you can put parts from an old junked out American made appliance into
  20. A wireless fence provides no protection for your pet from other animals as it does not prevent them from entering your property.
  21. This is why I love my ancient, simple appliances so much - they don't look especially good but they are reliable. My range/oven is over 25 years old and in that time I have replaced 2 of the burner coils on the stove and it still cooks as well as it ever did. I dread when I have to buy some of this overpriced crap they sell today.
  22. Plus the whole no need to be nervous or carry a gun to an event at Philips Arena part. Seriously, even to and from the car I never once felt unsafe, despite this being my first trip to downtown Atlanta in who knows how many years and the first ever to that particular venue.
  23. Do they ever give the projected savings in advance of making these decisions? If not, they definitely should. And then again at the end of the year so those who pay the bills (US) can decide whether it was a good move or not. Do administrators ever lose their jobs after a number of employees are let go? Logic would lead one to believe it should be so. When an entire department is eliminated, there's less to 'administrate'. There is so much waste elsewhere in government it is sickening to see all the cost-cutting measures involving the loss of jobs some of these people have held for
  24. Yeah there are so many people and so much security I can't imagine a scenario in which a gun would be needed inside the venue. Besides, if guns are allowed in crowded public events what's to stop people with bad intentions ? Just asking for trouble....
  25. Which means the solution is to change the way government works...or at least certain aspects of it.
