I would support a program to move people out of the county. Quality of life should not be measured by your tax bill or pocketbook. Tax rates could go down if we were not supporting all these school needs brought on by higher population. Most of the main roads are state maintained anyway and I won't even try to act like police and fire are up to par regardless of tax rates. We do have an empty airport in the middle of the woods though. I am a small businessman and I personally see no advantage to more people. JMO.

Agreed. Also a small business owner.  Well, co-owner, anyway.

Growth should be the path to the goal, not the goal itself.

  2. According to Google, from sources that include the US Census Bureau:

    1980    26,110

    1990    42,028

    2000    82,984

    2010  142.824

    2017   159.445

So no, I don't think we need to be luring people here with cash.   Personally, I think growth is overstated; even though it does increase the tax base, it also requires more infrastructure and more services, overcrowds the schools and increases traffic, so the tradeoff sort of cancels out any benefit of an increased number of property owners.

This was once a lovely little county, as was Cobb.  Now...well, not sure what the draw is, really, since cheap housing is a thing of the past.

  3. "My question is would renting it out prevent the use of other activities in the building during church services"

"burnt hickory park building cannot be used by the public on ANY SUNDAY"

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, the original post doesn't say there was a vote.  It says there was NOT a vote.  I took that point to mean it was a decision made without the public's (aka taxpayer's) knowledge.

Renting out a school facility that is not used on the weekend is one thing, but to make a park facility unavailable for half the weekend when most private citizens (aka taxpayers) might wish to rent it for an event is another.

Churches don't pay the taxes that build or maintain parks, and the government doesn't pay for anything.  We do.

  4. I have lost faith in who puts the links on here. How do we know who they are? are they for the President or against him? I have seen so much fake news.I had rather believe what I hear out of the Presidents mouth. Other people should do the same. If they did a lot of this drama would cease.

Believe it? I have trouble understanding his rambling, circular doublespeak. If he cared enough to pay attention to what he says, no doubt he would have trouble understanding it, too.

It is rather silly to suggest that people YOU don't know personally feel hate toward someone THEY don't know personally. There are either many who don't really know what hate is, or don't possess the vocabulary to use a more appropriate term. There are plenty others to pick from: displeased, appalled, embarrassed, confused, suspicious, ashamed, disgusted and yes, angry, to name a few.

I don't know Trump, nor do I care enough about him to hate him although I have not ever particularly liked him. My opinion of him is based on the fact that he is a serial adulterer, his business ethics and practices questionable at best, he is blatantly dishonest, hypocritical, and lacks self-restraint. We don't even know if he pays his income taxes. We do know he doesn't always pay others to whom he owes money.

His only concern is his ego and the image he projects. He will never put the country ahead of himself.

What, besides his anti-immigration stance, are all these good ideas of which y'all speak?

  5. I am amazed that anyone would defend, much less want to elect, such a dishonest, egomaniacal person as Donald Trump to a second term, especially for such a juvenile reason as 'to watch someone squirm'.

The problem we have now is people voting for an individual based on personal feelings, name recognition, personal ideology, party association, etc. rather than the candidate who demonstrates the ability to provide capable, ethical leadership and whose background and finances are not incompatible with transparency and full disclosure of any potential conflicts of interest or questionable business ties/associations.

Electing a corrupt shyster who wouldn't know the truth if it poked him in the eye just to piss off people who don't want said shyster in the top office in the country is not what I would call patriotism.

  6. I wait until election day. I feel that is the best way to be sure I have as much information as possible before deciding where to cast my vote.

I am always happy to see third party candidates on the ballot. It is unfortunate that so many choose to vote for 'the lesser of two evils' rather than to seriously consider other possibilities only because the two parties' have managed to bend the process to maintain their broken system.

Until that changes, not much else will.

  7. Not long ago, the Democrats on this forum were railing against the outsourcing and companies taking their manufacturing to other countries.

Now you're pissed because someone took at stand on it to encourage business to keep jobs here.

Can you get any more hypocritical?

I don't understand why you would suggest that only Democrats should be against the offshoring of millions of American jobs. Are you saying everyone else thinks it was somehow beneficial to this country? Or is it exactly what it appears to be - a lame attempt to make it a partisan issue?

So much for your claim that you are above all that - not that some of us didn't already know better, but still maybe best to check yourself before you start pointing out the faults of others.

  8. I imagine those lists are for elementary school students based on the items they contain (scissors, glue, colored pencils, crayons, etc.) I would make sure my kid showed up with pen/pencil, individual notebooks (either spiral or other binder type with paper) and maybe a calculator until I heard otherwise. No doubt you will be notified shortly if you are to provide other specific items.

Or if you know any 7th or 8th graders, you could always ask what they were expected to bring or discovered they would need upon entering the 6th grade.
