Major upgrade in process
gpatt0n replied to gpatt0n's topic in Welcome and learn about the NEW Paulding.com
To do a screen capture you need a program like photoshop or windows draw to paste the picture in. You would compress and save it as a jpg and email the picture of your screen with this box to me. pubby If you need help, PM your telephone number and I'll call you and hopefully walk you through it. pubby -

Montradamus: I don't know what that is? Can you recreate and do a screen capture? save it as a jpg and send it to me? I'm curious what it is. I've not seen anything like it. pubby -
Major upgrade in process
gpatt0n replied to gpatt0n's topic in Welcome and learn about the NEW Paulding.com
Folks, it is all new to me too so bear with me while I figure out what the deal is with things like the 'remember me' logon/logoff ... I'm suffering from those too. It may take a few days to get it pumping on all twelve cylinders. pubby -
Upgrade in process Paulding.com is going through a major upgrade in its forum software. The new software offers a wide variety of enhancements for the community board but upgrading through a board as large as Paulding.com is a daunting process that is taking a great deal more time that anticipated. At present we've lost our ads and even our logo but these accoutrements will after the nitty gritty parts of the board are re-synchonized and the like. We are also aware of the lack of sync on the PM system. It too will be returning and I can't image it failing to be, when all i

My gut is that your browser (firefox) is not setting or reading your cookies. Check whether you've given pcom the power to set cookies on your pc. without that power, the site will operate differently. pubby -
Maximum signature size rule
gpatt0n replied to a topic in Welcome and learn about the NEW Paulding.com
Just a reminder that signature image sizes are being enforced. If you want to stay out of the crosshairs but have no idea how big 200 pixels tall by 500 pixels wide is, take my signature (its bold/black) and trace around it right there on your monitor. cut out the 'box' and that will be how big "500 pixel by 200 pixels" is. If your signature image is taller than the box OR wider; either one; it is too big. Thanks for your cooperation. pubby -

PCom went down shortly after 5 p.m. What I think happened is the afternoon backup, which slows the site down at about 5:10=5:15 pm does okay when there are 150 people on but add 50 more folks and the slowdown for the datadump means 50 more folks ... all click, click, clicking 'cause it is slow. That click, click, clicking nailed the server today. Which raises an issue about the backup. see, we're already backed up in one sense ... we use a raid for the DB in real time to guard against disk failure ... and the afternoon backup is more a 'security issue... i.e. we save to a dis

Though the circumstances are a bit tough, I was thinking Pcom was holding up quite well under the load... and it was. As most folks know last August we ran into a situation similar to this then when literally hundreds of people wanted to get on to express their concerns and sadness over the death of two other EPHS students. Seeing the problems we had with our two-server setup, we resolved at that point to expand our server base to provide the community with a room that we believe can hold 400-500 concurrent users. We've got the equipment to do that and we've been going along

Welcome folks. I see there are 248 of you here as we come up on 5 p.m. This is a good crowd and I'm quite pleased that our servers ... we've got three of them ... are holding up under the strain. I do wish to clue you that for about five minutes begining about 5:15 p.m. we do a daily backup of the site's database and typically, when this happens, things slow down. If you're reading a particular topic, you might not notice a thing but if you try to load a new topic or post an item, you may not be successful. Just a fair warning of the slowdown ... pubby

Pcom Rules recodified ...
gpatt0n replied to gpatt0n's topic in Welcome and learn about the NEW Paulding.com
Interesting concept Bwitchy and I will incorporate it if and when the software developer I use creates an aging tool for its mod system. Beyond that, I would recommend this type of issue be handled directly ... almost in person. BTW: should we 'eliminate' mayberries too??? Coach: As far as the Animal Farm rule ... not really. One reason is that as a business, it is bordering on stupid for me to continue to allow the ' Site done me wrong ... I'm leaving ... come to site xyz' routine. Not only is that routine a bit trite it is ultimately injurious and easily plotted -
Pcom Rules recodified ...
gpatt0n replied to gpatt0n's topic in Welcome and learn about the NEW Paulding.com
Quite perceptive BB: Actually I suspect that may of these will be just that (a net mayberry) or the + - = 1 bullet which, like the one mayberry, can be handled as a single entry with a little text explanation. The = two bullets requires two entries which actually means more paper work than the one bullet or one mayberry alternatives. Hence, if the popo are just doing their jobs, they're likely to do either a single bullet or single mayberry option rather than the + - - = no change option because that requires four entries. But since the double sanction for d -
PCOM RULES We may add, change, or delete rules as time goes by. If you think these rules are unfair or think we've left something out, please let us know. Discussions and comments should be civil and specific to the issue at hand (as opposed to directed towards an individual member). Please refrain from vulgarity, libel, name-calling, and gratuitous gossip. Members need to avoid name-calling that calls into question som

Here is the link to the skypcast we'll be doing at noon tomorrow. https://skypecasts.skype.com/skypecasts/sky...l?id_talk=86965 Don't expect anything earthshattering ... indeed, the mundane is more the agenda as we explore this tool which we're told could give us a radio show. I'll be doing some investigating in the short term to see how it all works. pubby

What do you know about skype?
gpatt0n replied to gpatt0n's topic in Welcome and learn about the NEW Paulding.com
I wonder whether folks like Nemie and Steve, who no doubt still have friends in GB, wouldn't be ahead of the game just buying a number there friends could call for 'nothing' ... and there would be no long distance for international calls. Another one would be for a kids/teens phone. They get a telephone number for themselves for $38/yr that others can call and they can call their friends with skype for nothing and even have group chats. Conference calls with up to four folks are free too. How they differ from the chats, I'm not sure ... but I suspect they can be landline folks. -

What do you know about skype?
gpatt0n posted a topic in Welcome and learn about the NEW Paulding.com
You know there are specific tools that are out there that can save one's butt when you make a mistake. One of those is skype. What we've tried to do to cut expenses is have Internet service and we had a choice, we could have cable tv or a telephone. Well, we already have cell phones but being a forgetful type; I've been known to leave my phone at home ... or in the car ... or at the office when I am at home ... and even forget to recharge the bugger. To make a long story short, while I have a second landline phone at the office, I don't have that luxury at home ... and that's
