shooting
gpatt0n replied to Catch22's topic in NEW Scanning the County - Emergency Services radio Traffic Reports
I talked with Sheriff Harris on this matter and here is what he told me. The person was driving to the hospital with the youth ... that they stopped at the gate outside the High School and were met by emergency personnel who rendered first aid and as noted, called for life-flight. The area there is being treated as a crime scene and Bruce told me that deputies are getting warrants for the home where the shooting occurred. (It didn't happen in the car ... they got the person in the car and were rushing them to the hospital.) The story that officers were given is that it was an a -
I was headed out of town and had to backtrack down old Cartersville and then up 92 and 41 to Red Top Mt. (I was going to go to Cartersville on 61)... Anyway, before I turned around, I snapped this long distance shot of the scene. I think that is the white SUV in the ditch on the right. Sad scene. pubby

Just the news is on the scene as I type. The wrecker she said was named Goias. According to her, eyewitnesses said the wrecker simply went off the highway snapping a power pole and trapping the driver. She reports the driver was injured primarily in the lower extremeties ... legs ... but was conscious and talking to emts before being life-flighted out. We will have photos and full story later tonight... after the SO BBQ pubby

possible rape
gpatt0n replied to DALLASGIRL0618's topic in NEW Scanning the County - Emergency Services radio Traffic Reports
Georgia law allows officers in distributing incident reports to redact the name of a rape victim but all laws sanctioning media for publishing such information was judged unconstitutional in 1975. As a general rule the media, of their own volition, choose not to identify rape victims but there is no state sanction against the publication. Indeed a state sanction against publication is prior restraint and would be on its face unconstitutional. Here is a link to the case that established the unconstitutionality of the Georgia law prohibiting the publication of the name of a rape vic -

I disagree, discussion runs on opinion. Furthermore, reason is realtive to opinion. I have a favorite quote ... coined it back in the 1980s ... it says "the genious of democracy is that it makes us responsible for each other whether we like it or not." I'd be surprised if you share that opinion. Given the reason or logic you employ, any suggestion that society, in order to maintain its cohesiveness, should provide anything for an individual; particularly those who contribute so little (the poor), would fly in the face, not of your reason, but your opinion. I just feel you con

No we don't shut down topics that inform the public of shady business or less than sanitary restaurants. we do have rules about how these topics are handled and some folks choose to ignore those rules. Since it has arisen, lets be clear. What we will tolerate are topics about shady businesses when the individual has: 1. not only complained but has filed a civil action in magistrate or superior court asserting the claim. 2. filed a formal complaint for fraud or other criminal activity against the business and obtained a police report we can review on that topic. 3. Makes

We've had some in the business community in particular feel that we shouldn't let people 'say that' ... criticize the government, acknowledge that there is a meth problem or have the temerity to say that perfection does not exist in Paulding County Georgia. They seem to be saying something on the order of this: This quote obviously would make sense to a lot of folks. I mean those who say the press is treasonous certainy would harbor this notion and some may even be able to convince themselves that the press and the voice of the people should be silenced. Indeed, that was

I happened to be looking for another quote ... Thomas Jefferson saying if given a choice of a government with no newspapers or no government with newspapers, he'd choose the latter ... I came across this quote from Teddy Roosevelt. "If there is one thing we ought to be careful about, it is in regard to interfering with the liberty ofthe press. … I think it is a great deal better to err a little bit on the side of having too much discussion and having too virulent language used by the press, rather than to err on the side of having them not say what they ought to say, especially with refer

I can allow html for specific member classes here as well. The permissions are available for posting in the topics. They just didn't put the switch on the signatures and because of that, it was an all or nothing proposition. For the record commerce members, who would be able to include a paypal payment button in their topics to sell something, do have html permissions. pubby

Paulding.com is back!

Paulding.com had some technical difficulties. Paulding.com, much to my chagrin, has been down since about 1:11 p.m. today. What happened is our server provider had a router or two go belly up at about 1:10 p.m. Friday afternoon. We have a 100 percent up guarantee as far as the Internet connect is concerned but obviously, that promise was a bit optimistic. Service was partially restored shortly before 6 p.m. but the service provider's router remained flakey and when members, including myself, sought to use the site, we experienced write failures to the database which corrupted

Seeing this earlier, I went out to Taylor Farm Park and saw nothing at 3:34 p.m. Nothing, nada ... I suspect if it were a serious matter, authorities still would have been around. Now if it were just someone popping off fire crackers and maybe killing a duck; that could probably be handled in an hour. bottomline, there may have been something but I don't think it was a matter of life or death. pubby

Innocent until proven guilty folks. The homeowner is making the complaint but we do not know if his description of the events is accurate. People have been known to fudge the truth, like who hit who first. I would say that utility repair folks most probably have some training on how to disengage and it would appear that training was ineffective in this case. pubby

I just returned from the scene and the driver, according to an eyewitness, was initially unconscious but regained consciousness and was complaining of an injury to his chest. The eyewitness said he only saw the impact and that the motorcyclist hit the front of the truck and landed in the bed of the truck. pubby

Paulding.com Introduces the Wide Tower Ad
gpatt0n replied to gpatt0n's topic in Welcome and learn about the NEW Paulding.com
Veritas: You're referencing the skin in the archive where I installed the floating tower as a test. The skin in those forums was designated a test. The skin with the floating ad is set to accommodate 90 percent of the viewers all of whom have a screen resolution of 1024x768 pixels. The new skin "EXPLODE" is optimized for wide screen viewing and does cause issues on monitors that are smaller. However, the explode skin is not a general user option. What this means, though, is that if you go to the archive forums and have a smaller display or one that is not widescreen, -
