  1. Well, now that I know, RR, I heart you too LR: Nice summary but no one needs to save my life to get a mayberry ... really ... But on top of that, while I reserve the right to pass out mayberries, those tastee little morsels are most often given out by the popo. Now, if you've noticed, Tow and the popo are not exactly loco about each other in a I heart Boss Hogg sort of way, if you know what I mean pubby pubby
  2. I found it interesting and informative. There are something 200 responses total and not everyone left a text message (which was the subject of this topic) ... It is obvious that we have concerns and most of those concerns showed up in this section of the survey as well. I put it out here for folks to see because I get the feeling from some of the responses that folks think this is an easy job with clear answers. It is not. I also put it out here to see what kinds of responses folks might give to some of the more interesting issues.... kind of like a focus group feedba
  3. Interesting, There might be away to do this. I'll keep it in mind. While I see what you mean, there are many different ways to read pcom and some work better for those who have a specific interest (than others.) We actually do have some limits coming into place with commerce memberships as they renew. Buy a premium membership is my advice ... and know that you're helping the community. Interesting comment. We try not to have favorites. I have seen some of the incidents that you assert and I've been appalled that adults act the way they d
  4. You are able to click on and ignore the survey at the bottom of the page. I know I have. As far as being able to search without having to logon, again it is a matter of conserving resources, in large part, for those who pay. I actually need to again restrict the search to force folks to logon as one of the complaints I'm getting too often today is that the site seems slow. That sluggishness is almost certainly caused by the use of search by guests. thanks Generally speaking this is true. We do request folks be kinder and more gentle in their expression than some
  5. Thank you for your kind comment and long time support of the site Sounds like the kind of drama pcom is famous for. I have to disagree; I need it to be a living or else I'm going to be another economic victim. All you rude and crude people who think you're being the height of entertainment, consider staying in the tonk. Obviously not everyone appreciates your crudeness. Thanks for the vote of confidence NOT one more left pubby PS: someone post something quick so I can post again. there is a limit on the number of quo

  7. Again, thanks. Actually, there is a 'low-fi' version that ditches the graphics. It doesn't include advertising though. Actually, there is a module that exists that fits into both IE and I Mozilla that does spell check for you. It is set up as a browser add on and helps not just with posts on pcom but in most Web 2.0 programs. I too would like to see more of that kind of reporting. One of the big issues with the scanner is that the initial information is often garbled and incomplete. I too would like more newsy types of coverage and fewer arguments
  8. Second installment: Thanks! It is eliminated for those who are premium/paying members. With the costs of business, it would be impossible to keep this site going without the support of the members. If flood control were to be eliminated for all members, the site would slow appreciably and with out the income from subscriptions, there would be no money to do things like improve the servers. Said differently, why not join as a premium member and know that among the benefits is the elimination of flood control. Mods take note, you really should PM the OP
  9. Folks: Here are your comments ... I'm doing it installments. If this gets to be a greater issue, we'll consider it. Might I suggest you click on the link that takes you to the last post. It is on the right of page where it identifies the last poster. We actually do try to do that. I do encourage folks posting religious and political topics to put those topics in the proper forums. As far as combining them, use the report this post button to alert the moderators to do so. And I do encourage folks to check recent topics to see if they shou
  10. No, only commerce members are allowed the two user identities. As you acknowledge having two memberships, I'll disable this 'business-ready membership' until you're actually ready. pubby
  11. WGAcrafts ... You do know we can arrange a name change easily. If you read the site rules, you'll see we do reserve the right to change your disiplay name to one that is fitting the membership level. pubby
  12. I think this is an issue of someone who is afraid of dogs. While I can understand most folks being somewhat fearful of a big unknown dog in their yard, the reality is the dog knows that he/she doesn't belong there and if you do, you can probably diffuse the situation by telling the animal to get gone in no certain terms. Yep, just tell 'em ... If you have something you can throw at them or a stick or some such, to 'highlight' your wanting them gone, 90 percent of the time, they'll follow your direction. If you are fearful, stand behind your open car door ready to use it as a big
  13. Paulding.com was down; now it is not. Sorry for the inconvenience.
  14. With the big races out of the way this summer, folks are apt to forget that we have two more races to finally decide. Thought we might see how things are happening. pubby
  15. I've messed up somehow. oh well. Apparently once a poll has votes, you can't change it without zero'ing out all the choices and then there is the problem with those who have voted are not allowed to re-vote ... I don't normally play with polls I put up but now we all know that poll tampering (I was trying to add some responses to cover some objections) can have consequences. pubby
  16. I see what was wrong. I included the two votes that Obama will win as noted above. The last question will now take multiple answers. Sorry for the inconvenience. pubby
  17. The word was that the world-wide financial system was within hours of, according to some, a catastrophic collapse. Whether that is true or not is certainly debatable but we all know that both the President and the Congress were impressed enough to cough up another $700 billion in addition to the bail out of AIG and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. So, this poll is designed to access your confidence. Your comments are welcome.
  18. Win $200 cash -- enter at Paulding Meadows this weekend! Pcom will be at Paulding Meadows this Saturday and Sunday to have a little fun and take entries to give away a little cash. The way you'll win the cash is to come up with the best 10-30 second finish to the statement, "I prize Paulding because" ... followed by what you thing is great about the community. Of all those entered, we'll pick a total of 20 'pieces' to put up on youtube and then we'll have a poll to let all pcommer's vote to decide who will get the $200 prize. For the record you will have to sign a standa
  19. What you are seeing is our moderation system. Only you can see your moderation notes ... the numbers range from ( ) (nothing) to -15 to 8 or 9 ... although folks with a 8 or 9 'bullets' are not usually sticking around. See positive numbers denote 'bullets' from the Mayberry Sheriff an deputies ... I can say neither of you have any rating at all ... (moderators and administrators can see everyone's numbers). Anyway, negative numbers denote mayberries (acknowledgment of good things. helping newbies, etc. ) and of course bullets are notices that you need to avoid attacking so
  20. I suppose I ought to put out some of the details. Our goal is to produce as good if not better commercial spots within the budget of most Paulding businesses. Comcast, in their marketing material - they're the only other folks doing video as a medium - establish an eight-hour project time for each commercial as a guide. I expect their hourly rate is going to be $100 or more and for starters, I've set ours at $50/hr. for video production. We include delivery to youtube for your use as well as a FLV conversion for presentation in the directory. We can also do a blip.tv .
  21. There is one other place that you can 'accidentally' put a block on someone and that is in the profile. I couldn't remember initially where I saw it but I did find it. Under options, the first selection is to 'ignore' a user ... or block them. If you click on the options tab and just swipe the mouse ever-so-slightly down, you do risk blocking that member accidentally. pubby
  22. Here's an example of a Pcom produced :30 second commercial to run in the news Click for RECENT TOPICS click for RECENT TOPICS click for RECENT TOPICS The Paulding.com news needs sponsors Local businesses, video is the way to promote your business. It really is a great tool for marketing and getting your message across. What you might not know is that good ole Pcom can produce engaging multi-media videos that will sell your business. And we'll put in in our Paulding.com News program ... meaning that it will typically be seen by 1000 or more folks every week. Give
  23. If you look at the 'message center' in my controls ... you'll see it lists the message title and then the sender followed by a [block] link. I suspect these folks were victims of random mouse clicks. pubby
